Just a heads up I can hold that plant thing as long as I am concentrating but I can't do much else. We should make sure sailors are keeping the ship away from the whirlpool while I try to keep the ship from sinking.

If the cost is too high, it will not be possible to use it. There is also the problem of floating to use it near the hole. Maybe initiate the ritual somewhere relatively safe and then move there to use it.
