There is such a thing as dosage. A lot of things are harmless (or even beneficial) in small quantities or when sufficiently diluted, but are dangerous in large quantity or when highly concentrated.

So saying that something can be dangerous doesn't mean it can't also be safe.

There is no known safe dosage for this. You can look it up on the chemical website and the CDC. Be sure to look it up as a cleaning chemical though because if you look it up as a food additive, it will come up as any dose is safe. What do you mean they have a double standard?

"The chemical website"? WTF is that?

Anyway, the best I could find was this: http://www.atsdr.cdc.gov/toxprofiles/tp126-c8.pdf

Which specifically says:

Quote:
The FDA determined that concentrations of ammonia and ammonium compounds normally present in food do not suggest a health risk; ammonia and ammonium ions are recognized to be integral components of normal metabolic processes.

So please provide links because "check the chemical website" is pretty bad sourcing.

I feel like this says more about the guy who forgot a burger in his closet for two years than anything else.

people who kill other people should not be put down is my opinion but i would definitely support an effort to reworking ecosystems so that they aren't based around things killing other things

but then what do you do when the population explodes with nothing to control it and they eat all the food and everyone goes extinct

you monster

One molecule of hot radiation in your lungs will kill you...

The key words are "normally found in foods", and not "added to foods".

http://toxnet.nlm.nih.gov/cgi-bin/sis/search is a good place to start.

Further reading: http://toxnet.nlm.nih.gov/cgi-bin/sis/search/f?./temp/~IcS6uJ:1 an excerpt:
"DIFFERS FROM OTHER ALKALIS IN ITS VOLATILITY; VAPOR (NH3) EVEN IN LOW CONCN IS EXTREMELY IRRITATING TO SKIN, EYES, & RESP PASSAGES. ... INGESTION OF AMMONIA SOLN PRODUCES EFFECTS SIMILAR TO OTHER CORROSIVE ALKALIS, NOTABLY CORROSIVE ESOPHAGITIS & GASTRITIS."

Its not that its immediately deadly, its that they can't know how much you are going to take in during any given amount of time. You may eat 3 hamburgers and have a canned drink that is full of it and later in the same day have 3-4 more hamburgers and another 2-3 drinks at which point you may very well have side effects. They also don't test for continued exposure over the course of a long time. So there may be huge negative side effects from consuming the stuff once a day for several years. Its also in almost all meats that you get from anywhere. They sanitize all store bought meat in this way even if it isn't pink slime so you are ingesting it all the time at pretty much every meal...

I can't access like 90% of the sites you link, for some reason.

In the text you quote, there's no mention of the amount required for harmful effect.

And if we eat these things that are so bad for us at every meal anyway, why aren't we all dead? I'm pretty fit.

The human body is an amazing machine. It has thousand of mechanisms to deal with harmful toxins. Also food is only 1/3 of the equation. There is also environmental factors and exercise. If you have 2 of those 3 your body can usually make up the difference to keep you relatively healthy.

Also it might be a matter of perspective. I thought I was healthy until I gave up junk food and started taking vitamin supplements. I immediately noticed a huge change in how I felt...

Agreed. I stack patties like paper

Also nothing ruins a good burg like a tasteless oversized bun. Either the bun gotta be delicious or only give just enough surface area to contain the meat monster inside.

I had In'n'Out for the first time earlier this year; I was not particularly impressed.

I think my favorite fast-food chain is Edo. Mmmm...stir-fry.

Knowledge knows no bounds.

And so people say to me, "How do I know if a word is real?" You know, anyone who's read a children's book knows that love makes things real. If you love a word, use it! That makes it real. Being in the dictionary is an artificial distinction; it doesn't make the word any more real than any other word. If you love a word, it becomes real.

Well, any burger certainly depends on taste and preference. All i know is that people wait twenty minutes at five separate active registers (five!) at In'N'Out to get their order in, and the drive through always has more people than any other chain. A lot of people like it.
