Möbius got banned? It'd be a shame to lose an extremely knowledgable member. Seems touchy if he can get banned for what only ever seemed to amount to occasional jabs. Pretty sure he's called all of us out at some time.

Let Thor and company tell you what I got banned for. In fact, I encourage all my transgressions to be aired out here for the rest of the community to see so everyone else can see what NOT to do.

This was actually my 3rd banning (lasting a week this time, but it might as well say "lifetime" because why would I even bother to contribute anything to this place anymore besides the message I'm trying to put out there now). Not once, ONCE, in the Wild West that was the Wizards board was I banned. The worst that ever happened is something I posted was edited it out and life went on. Here though, you get your post edited, a finger wagging "no-no-no" in your face, immediately followed by a hammer to the dome.

It's not like I've ever come out and said to someone bluntly "you're an idiot"...but I guess clever placement of words will get you the same punishment.

I mean, that's fine I guess. If that's how this place is, it isn't a place for me. I'm sure I'll be missed (*eyeroll*).

I would just request that anything that would be said to me in a private email by the "moderators" be posted here by them for all the boards to see so there's a little bit more to go by then their subjective definitions of "trolling", "flaming", and "baiting" (that last one really gets the eyes spinning). Give us something concrete BRUHS.

Am I sounding like a bit of a hypocrite here right now as I'm still "here"? That's fine. This is the only thread I'll be in though, I promise.

Actually, no. If this is where you need to be to get something concrete on why you were banned then this is where you should be. You can be abraisive, we all know that, but i've never actually seen you attack anybody, just a little scornful of silly builds and choices, like we all are. Hell, i've done worse myself and got a small slap on the wrist. Kheldar, care to fill us in? I want to know what not to do too.

I didn't report him, nor have I seen a reason to report him for anything. Yeah, he can tick you off, but you can't agree with everyone all the time.

Wow, jackeem33 is enough to catch attention? I thought it was clever.

Still in all, though, driving out the knowledgable members isn't good for business. mobius is really only abrasive to other regulars, but it's just out of familiarity. If it wasn't for his "1v1 Specialists" thread on the mothership, I probably wouldn't have joined the forum at all.

I never thought Mobius was being mean spirited, whereas certain other posters, well OK, just one, has definitely been kind of a jerk in a way that I don't think is just having fun.

What madness is this

At the end of the day, I'm here for decks and discussion and few people have done remotely as much as Mobius to facilitate and drive that. His in-depth write-ups and explanations have definitely elevated my game. And yeah, on the mothership he called me out a few times, and I'm glad he did.

I would rather this be a community where people can discuss and trade barbs in good fun, without others taking it too seriously, rather than appealing to the most sensitive denominator. I don't think his behaviour would get him banned on any other forum I've been to.

Alright there Chickman I do have a few things to say about your comments.

One: The picture of (what we can all assume is a true photograph of said person) someones avatar that may be them and it put on a card is fine as long as I keep it to myself and/or share it with personal friends. I was out of line and I addressed that with the moderators.

Two: The reason for bumping up or even having in the first place FFA meetups is not only for "established" forum members it is also intended on being a place where new members can come into a competitive gaming environment and not only learn more about the game but also have a good time sitting around the table and not getting ganged up on by just some random opponents.

I appreciate your write ups and your input and I'm one of the few that your internet attitude just slides off me and doesn't really effect anything. I read you deeper into what you say and most of it I find very sound. Crap, you called me out on the Fleshdude missing in my deck. It did nothing but help me become a better player as I actually got to use that ability in different situations.
I, for one am very glad you joined us here.
Now...

FFA isn't for everyone, I understand that. Hell, when I'm puttering around smashface in 1v1 I don't like to play with a mic on unless it's sixty4. Other than him 1v1 to me is more of a battle of clarity that doesn't waver from too many perimeters.

FFA is a social event now doubt and part of that is listening and reading into body language of sound to try and have a clear out look on the possibilities of what your 3 opponents might do. Sound and conversation can really help or hurt your game you just have to play it out. It's political, it's clandestine, it's nation/treaty war. You never know what you going to get.
Well to a certain point you do. (we need more than 21 decks per year!)

I think it's a great learning environment for new players and I will promote it as such.

The FFA thread hurts no one and is of very great use to people who actually use it. Since it's a device designed to help forum members get together and play games on the software this subforum exists to discuss, I see absolutely no issues with it. The same way I see no issues with the Extravaganza thread or the TNT thread.

mobius picks on FFA because it's casual Magic. He's a competitive player.

I don't have a real problem with the format, but when people post their FFA builds in a strategy thread, it does mildly annoy me if they defend their card choices with "because FFA". Casual is fine if that's how you want to play, but that doesn't make it close to optimal. I build certain decks suboptimally based on a theme from time-to-time (Voltron comes to mind), but I call it out and try to max out on synergy. Then mobius calls me an idiot and improves my build.

Strategy talk is what this place is all about for me. And because of his knowledge and writing style, no one does that better than mobius. If you find him "abrasive" rather than "funny", then I suggest you go join a convent or something.

- How DO I contact a Board Administrator from an Apple device? Whenever I click the link it just auto-pops up an email that's linked to some Apple Email I have never used. I can't use my actual email since I don't know where to send it TO.

So, I was going to tell you the info is available via the user profile. Then I decided to look first. And even though my profile is set to make it public, it doesn't show. Same seems to be true for everybody. This seems like a bug to me, and so I'll make sure it gets looked at. In the meantime:

GobO_Admin --> [email protected]
GobO_Althalus --> [email protected]
GobO_Fire --> fire@nogoblinsallowed

That'll give you access to the email accounts for the site owner and both moderator leads. However, I can tell you that if you contact Admin without talking to Alth or I first, she'll just direct you to one of us. (Also, as a general rule please don't infer any patterns for staff email accounts based on those three. The pattern there isn't always true.)

- It'd be nice to know that if you get banned for something you could check your Inbox to see WHAT FOR. But you can't, since you can't log in. Sure, I can put on my Sherlock Holmes hat and figure it out (which I did), but very poor interface/communication tools there kids.

When you received your warning, you automatically receive it via PM from the system; in addition to the automatic PM, we additionally send it via email - because we recognize the ridiculousness of banning somebody and then telling them why they were banned via PMs, which they can't read while banned. If you did not receive the email, my first question would be to have you confirm the email address registered under your account is accurate; second would be to ensure the email didn't get moved to your spam filter.

Let Thor and company tell you what I got banned for. In fact, I encourage all my transgressions to be aired out here for the rest of the community to see so everyone else can see what NOT to do.

We will not, ever, publicly disclose the reason anybody received a warning. Or, for that matter, whether or not a warning was even issued to a specific poster. You are free to post the text of the email here should you choose to do so. As documented in the Code of Conduct, a "ban" is simply a measure of the number of warnings received in a one-year period.

Every warning documents the post(s) we felt violated the CoC, the reason it violated the CoC, and an invitation to contact either the issuing moderator or the moderator leads should you wish to discuss the matter.

Yes, this is true...

...but just because you don't use the words "you're an idiot" doesn't mean your post wasn't flaming. Clever word placement or not, insulting another user is flaming.

Frankly, the rules are quite simple. Don't insult others; talk about the post content, not the poster. Don't make unfavorable comparisons to posters you don't like as a way to make veiled insults. And don't continue to post the same insults over and over even after being asked by a moderator to stop - more than once, given that you've admitted this is your 3rd ban.

Mobius is probably second to none when it comes to Magic ability, but second to quite a few (would that still be second? I guess if you took all the people on a one to one basis...) when it comes to interpersonal skills.

I've always found you quite abrasive, but in a good way. I can understand the guff you're getting, but I don't understand the guff other's DON'T get, but I don't really see all these things.

Either way, hope you stick around, cuz I really enjoy your breakdowns and analyses and all that.

Wait, what's this about? The card I made with me and my husband on it? As far as I can remember we're the only people who have posted pictures of ourselves on a card... and I'm kind of weirded out if you're keeping it around (not really).

In fact, I don't even have that card saved on this computer anymore...

Mobius' posts is one of the main reasons I joined this forum. I would hate to see him banned and it would be a loss for the forum, despite the acerbic persona he portrays. I also think there's something to be said for someone that keeps a reality check on incoherence.

Exactly. He gets reported by those who take offence way too easily and banned by over sensitive mods, all because he isn't afraid to call people on their crap when they post it. Should we all just ignore the bad advice and terrible builds and start complimenting every Plague wind that gets played? People are meant to disagree, it's part of a healthy discussion, and the advice I got when I disagreed from these 'mods' was to ignore the person in question, so why can't the people who keep reporting just hit that ignore button? They are just as culpable for being drawn in and not using common sense.

If you use the Report button for anything other than extremely offensive speech (racism, sexism, etc) then you are literally a child.

Ignore button, doubly so.

Actually, I think you'll find the ignore button is much less childish than the report one. Repeatedly reporting the same person, you know you will take offence to them, so just hit ignore once so you never have to read that crap again. It takes a bigger person to turn the other cheek instead of getting people banned all over the place just because you can. It's the adult way to do things.

Disagreement is fine. Disrespect is not. Saying that you don't agree with something that someone posted - well, it's a gaming forum, discussions are why we are all here, and, if there was no disagreement, there really would be no reason to talk.
Insults, be it veiled or direct, are really not acceptable. Why should someone have to deal with being the butt of everyone's joke? That's not a healthy community.

I have to disagree with this. If you feel like someone is being insulted, you should report the post. We're all here to have fun, and, when someone is constantly being ridiculed, how are they able to have fun?

Ignore button is there to help - if there's someone that you just never agree with, and, when you see them post, your first thought is to lay into them, you should ignore them instead.

Remember - the mods here are just normal people. They are not WotC employees, like the ORC's. They are just people with other jobs that are giving their time to this community to try and ensure that everyone is able to enjoy the site, and make sure that everyone abides by the Code of Conduct.
