In this thread someone posts a character concept; A visual description, key points in their appearance or even their bio and then other posters help by finding artwork that would fit the character being described. If we have any users with skills in drawing or photoshop we might even be able to include drawing a character from scratch, or editing existing pictures to more aptly fit the description, changing hair color or weapons etc.

Please give credit the original artist when you know them, and it would be nice if you linked their site if you're able.

And remember, just because someone has linked a picture to a particular description, doesnt mean you cannot provide another option.

For example:

I'm looking for a female human paladin. She has dark hair, wearing plate mail (that actually covers her body) that has some sort of animal incorporated into the armor. A lion or wolf would be awesome.

The first person could come along and link this piece by Colin Ashcroft

But later, another person could see the post and decide to link "Fléo" by Lasfargue Léo

Simple right? Lets begin!

Well, I did just start up a new live campaign with some old friends, so this is my new character:

Human male, black hair and brown eyes, a fighter class in Pathfinder, wields a Lucerne Hammer and a Greatsword (the image will probably be easier with the sword), chainmail armor. Aside from that, he's a new character so he doesn't have much for specialized gear, so just getting the basic image right is what's important. I'd be thrilled if someone could find one with the Lucerne Hammer.

Still poking around for a better picture, most of the fighters I'm seeing are in plate mail of course but I know I've seen some good chain mail pictures in the past.

But I felt like I should link this one picture I found with a Lucerne Hammer because, well, its awesome.

A second picture that I might be able to edit to blacken the hair, and turn the spear into a hammer would be

So I figured I'd try something a little unusual. I just hoped in Skyrim, downloaded a few mods, and managed to throw something together sorta like you were looking for.

Its still very much got a bunch of plates, but there is chain underneath, and he's weilding a hammer at least. I did this in about 10 minutes, so given more time I could tweak it better and stand somewhere prettier.

Hey, not bad. As you said, the plates are a bit off, but the rest doesn't look bad at all.

Interesting concept. I don't have a portrait yet for the pirate themed warlord I was making, some of you may remember the thread, so if anyone wants to throw some ideas my way I definitely wouldn't complain. Size or being able to crop it doesn't really matter since my character sheet will be via my laptop so no holes barred.

I'm looking for something besides the stereotypical pirate look, but more of just a weathered sea hand or dock worker type character. Less focus on puffy shirts and rapiers, more on worn gear and tanned skin possibly a few scars. Hair color and stuff don't really matter I'm just looking for a starting point and we'll go from there.

Hmmm, a pirate you say? This first pictures that come to mind are some hyper-real images by Sergey Samuilov just because I love them so much and wanted to use them for a pirate skyship crew I was writing for a Roleplay.

I'll keep an eye out for something more along the lines of what you're looking for though I know I've seen some stuff similar to that sort of thing before.

@ Squinty Eyes

Perhaps this picture could be a good base to start at and then change it to be a hammer and such?

Alrighty guys, I need two things. Not looking for a specific look so much as I'm looking for ideas or styles but I'd just like to see what people come up with. I'll be starting two new characters soon, one IRL and one here on NGA down in the play-by-post games thanks to Squinty_Eyes offering to do a solo game.

1) A dwarf rogue / ranger. Theres tons of dwarves out there in plate mail and chain mail, but I'd like to see some dagger wielding, crossbow firing, ale drinking scouts and rangers.

2) A half-orc inquisitor. Doesnt have to have the sterotypical large hat, but looking to see various orcs, half orcs, or humans that could pass for half orc wearing darker colored medium armor. Weapon isnt important, though I believe I'll be using a Falchion.

Thanks in advance.

I've seen a decent dwarf rogue art or two while surfing around DeviantArt and the like, but you'd be surprised how hard it is to find information and art on a race/class combo that happens to be present in World of Warcraft. Anyway, below are a few of the better pictures I was able to find with a few minutes of surfing around just for fun, there's likely much better out there but I thought they were at least worth mention.

I don't suppose you happen to playing a female half-orc inquisitor? Because then you can just luck out and use the standard Pathfinder one. I did have a quick look but the term 'Inquisitor' just nets me a billion pictures of Warhammer 40k which is nice but not entirely useful. Sorry. I'll keep digging.

I'll likely be playing a male, but I had considered using Imrijka (the default pathfinder Inquisitor art) was wanting to get a little more 'off the beaten path'.

For those of you who dont know Imrijka:

For now I'm just using a cropped down version of this art:

This is exactly the sort of thing that I needed, thanks. Looking through some of the other work by Noiprox theres some good stuff in there too.

This one is awesome too and even though I think I've settled on a portrait for my inquisitor, this one makes me wish I had a half-orc rogue or something else to use this for. Solid work good sir.

So - I'd love to get some ideas for my characters....

I've got Soon, a female, human ranger and Tovar, a male half-orc barbarian.

Tovar is missing part of his left ear and Soon has dark hair/dark skin and never is without her bow.

Female human ranger with a bow? Hmmm , well if you wanted to incorporate the bow into the picture my top choice would be something like the character on the far left of

Characters 3 by YamaO

But theres also a few others like:

Archere by Rhosk
Spoiler

Mystic Archer by ShawCJ
Spoiler

Though the second one does look kinda elfy ... its really hard to find a ranger thats not an elf haha. If I focused more on the face and less on the bow I could dredge up a ton of stuff too but I'll keep looking for bow stuff for now. Then I can do in and darken the skin up a bit as needed.

Not super fond of the amount of skin she is showing considering the climate, but with the right cropping it could still be something pretty awesome.
