So, the last one didn't go over spectacularly, which is somewhat surprising and discouraging, but by the gods, I have to have faith that continued persistence will reap dividends.
So, this week, I'm bringing up a somewhat unknown artist: [url=http://magiccards.info/query?q=a%3AHideaki&v=card&s=cname]Hideaki Takamura[/c]. He's done more than I thought, and I think he's got a great sense of motion and energy. The card that probably stands out the most amongst all his work, for me, is Venser's Diffusion, but there are a few others that really stand out to me.

and Yuki-Onna are all great.
Sowing Salt gets a special mention for its high contrast beauty.

He hasn't done much for Magic lately, which is a crying shame.
Though a cursory glance at Google shows that he's still doing work for Kaijudo, so that's something.

There's not a lot of his that I don't like.

Eye of the Storm is very distinctive.
Maelstrom Djinn resonated with me in a way that I can't fully articulate.
Pyromancer's Swath is badass.
Shrapnel Blast looks painful.
Shred Memory is a wondrous marriage of abstract and literalism. Watch as I continue to vomit words onto this page!

He has a bit of an exaggerated style and obviously loves his bright colours. Maybe that's why he's been working on Kaijudo instead?

I just noticed how most of his pictures have people making the same pose with their hands.

Like they were holding onto something apple sized really tight, but there's nothing in the hand.

You know, every time one of these comes around, and I look at all the art some artist has done, and I realize I have 0-2 cards out of >40 they've done, it makes me think I should go through all my cards and sort them according to artist, so I can find out A)who I have the most cards by, and B)who my favorite Magic artists are.

Anyway, the only real thing I can say about these is that I wished I had more of his art. They're great.

Mm. I think I like him best when he's doing more colorful pieces. Honestly I think monochromatism just generally isn't doing it for me these days, particularly on Magic cards where it's so easy to slip into that kind of design mode... you know, what with there being five colors and all.

Sidenote: I totally forgot that we got a new Maro Sorcerer namedrop on Tribute to the Wild. Huh.

Man, now that I look through his stuff I'm seeing a LOT of cards that I've liked for quite a while but never realized were from the same artist. Yeah, I wouldn't mind seeing more of his stuff in Magic.
