the quality of the story really has nothing to do with what actually happened.

i'm not sure why you're following me around attacking me, but it's just as second grade as you say the article is.

I think it's horrible he got ran over, but this hangs on the bikers, not the driver of the SUV. Had they not driven over-aggressively, and then assaulted his vehicle and him like hoods, forcing him to flee, the biker would still be walking. He reaped from what his fellow criminals sewed, good or ill.

The law says you can flee if your life is in danger, and clearly the SUV driver was, and therefore so was his family. As a dad, I believe he was justified if the events happened as reported. Maybe it was just desserts, tragic or not.

I don't think that the driver did anything wrong by trying to get away, at all.

I agree that this is on the bikers, as a group.

But reading the article, you can't be sure what happened. It sounds to me like some of the other bikers were driving recklessly, got into a thing with the SUV driver (which was their fault completely,) and started freaking out on him, breaking his window, etc.

But say you're in traffic biking with some friends. Some of them start attacking a guy in his car. You're like "wtf guys?" One of your other friends falls off his bike, maybe he wasn't even doing anything. You're in traffic. You get off to help your friend who fell. You get run over by a car and paralyzed.

I'm not saying that's what happened, but it is certainly isn't impossible from the story. If that happened to me, I'd be like "**** you guys, I'm reporting you to the police." So I don't know why this guy isn't doing that. But I can see someone not ratting their friends out, either, even if they were paralyzed because of it.

And in any case, I still can't think of anything that warrants getting paralyzed over.

I think more than likely, it was a tragic accident, precipitated by biker actions. Clearly their friend was never intended to be run over, but cars and motorcycles aren't Tonka trucks. People take driving too lightly all the time as a generality.

the bikers were being ****

but that guy didn't "deserve" to be handicapped, he deserved to get fined and/or go to jail

the idea that someone deserves physical harm for doing something stupid is retarded

K, here's the deal.

Hollywood Stuntz holds a rally annually that basically clogs up time square. Police created an initiative that set up road blocks and such, preventing the rally this year. So these guys coasted up and down the West Side Highway and throughout Manhattan. When they were going northbound, they swarmed around this SUV. Typically, when a bunch of bikers are going by, you coast into the right lane and let them pass. The "rumor" is, heard from a coworker who knows some people that were either there or dating people that were there, is that the SUV was driving really close to the bikers. So, as you see in the video, the biker "brake checked" the SUV driver, and the driver hit the biker. All of this was avoidable BS, up until they stopped and got off their bikes and swarmed the SUV. You can't see it in the video, but the bikers began beating on the SUV and slashing its tires when it stopped on the highway. Terrified, the SUV driver bolted, running over a biker from Boston who is now a paraplegic. I would do the same thing if my wife and 2-yr-old were in the car.

The bikers give chase, the driver's tires are so busted he exits the highway, and at a red light the bikers gang up on him, beating him and slashing his face with a knife.

Basically, this whole thing was stupid and could have been avoided. The guy that was run over supposedly was actually trying to help the guy that got hit, and was not one of the ones beating on the car. I really pin everything on the guy that "brake checked" the SUV driver. Stupid machismo bullcrap.

I can only agree to a point, Ko. It's a tragedy any of that happened. But here's the deal. If you go about menacing people in cars that weigh over a ton, maybe two in this case, to the point he feels threatened enough to peel out of there, stuff happens. He would have been lucky to be cited or sent to jail for a week, but it didn't happen this time. For them to think nothing like that would happen is ludicrous. Whether they intended it or not, the bikers were BEGGING for it to happen by their actions. If anything, obey the law of gross tonnage and leave SUVs alone, and instead report something to the cops if you feel your bike mate got a raw deal with a car. Oh, and stop riding like a pack of reprobates and respect other drivers. Any of those options would have resulted on a different outcome. I don't know, does he deserve it? Maybe not, but he was begging for it nonetheless.

I love this society's lack of belief in personal responsibility these days. Sheesh, no wonder we're messed up and can't keep our government running.

Exactly. Sorry, don't do, or associate with people who do, stupid crap and stupid crap will be less likely to happen to you.

Lets not act like he was some innocent bystander who saw a stray kitten in the middle of the freeway.

Are we going to ignore the part in which the NYPD stopped the bikers from going to their normal routine which could then have caused the bikers to be upset?

This feels more like a systemic problem not allowing these people an outlet and government oppression that is being blamed on gang violence.

Also, this article is garbage because it sensationalizes a story about a family and how this supposed gang are villains when not providing the entire story.

Isn't that irrelevant? If I'm upset with someone, that doesn't justify me taking out my anger on a third party.

Knowledge knows no bounds.

And so people say to me, "How do I know if a word is real?" You know, anyone who's read a children's book knows that love makes things real. If you love a word, use it! That makes it real. Being in the dictionary is an artificial distinction; it doesn't make the word any more real than any other word. If you love a word, it becomes real.

No, it is completely relevant. If there aren't reasons for people to take these kinds of actions then people won't make them.

everybody deserves to be a princess

stopping tragedies is more useful for stopping tragedies than assigning blame is, if the NYPD could have stopped this incident by not blocking their normal route then the NYPD could have stopped this incident.
