I think a player's POV recap and a DM's POV recap would be highly entertaining, actually.

Man, rstnme, it's tough being the DM with the tolden touch. The water elemental your predecessors fought might have killed two alone had a character not had control water handy. Lucky, lucky. Oh, and BH lost 42 points in one round getting raped (almost) by a troll! And that was just the first encounter. Put yer straps and helmets on boyos, this ride is about to get bumpy!

Sorry, been quite busy the past two days, but I'm back now. If I've missed updating in any games, please let me know. I've been having phone troubles, so I haven't been able to update that way either.

I dont have much experience with PBP games, but Im noticing a problem at least in RPG. Outside of combat, the game drops to crawl speed, because it is really hard to give the players a sense of urgency when you have many days to decide anything.

Are there solutions for this problem? What about a timeframe?

Well in general on weekends traffic is a bit slower, and this is Super Bowl weekend I think as well so people could theoretically be a bit preoccupied. But personally I've just been busy with work stuff, fixing someones computer so they could take it to Korea with them, and dealing with the fact that my shoulder is still quiet the source of pain.

In character though, there seems to be an issue of people just sorta doing their own thing, or ignoring what others have already done and repeating it etc. An entire day or so was spent with each of you staring up at the dragon and trying to roll various checks on it...where as in person that would have taken a few seconds for everyone to just roll and the DM quote off who knows what about the dragon.

Another issue is the timing line up. Some characters have done next to nothing while someone like Clank has beaten the crap out of an innocent warforged, stopped off to the north, found his prisoner was dead, wandered the pier, came back down and yelled at unconscious bodies, got surges from Soon, rezed the guys, and is now heading off into the jungle. So its a delicate balance of getting the lower activity people to get more action into their posts while not dominating the thread with you own actions. Its actually something I have to watch in a lot of the games I play cause I tend to be the most active player...and try not to turn it into "Bounty Hunter and the four people following"

I know about the lower traffic in weekends. I dont mind stopping during weekends (Im at work now and I will try to watch the superbowl), but I think a timeframe could be a nice idea. Just an example: The dragon will arrive in 5 days. You have this time to prepare.

Dont need to be a rigid timeframe, just a guideline to keep things moving. It seems a good idea, but I dont know if it is applicable; or if there is a better method, or if it was already tested and failed... Well, I guess Im rambling now.

Well yeah, most DM's have a 'you must post at least once every X days' rule and such. But that doesnt move things along if we're all wandering about like we are.

So jump into the IC and do something!

I'll be home soon and make another post as well.

Yeah, I assume if someone doesn't post within 24 hours on a non-weekend day they're forfeiting their turn. In some cases, particularly battles, players can PM or post in the OOC what their char will do.

That applies for 4e for sure, but depends on the game. If everyone is posting regularly, I can crank a round every 3-4 days on average. 3e is less tactically based than 4e, and I don't run strict gridding. I'd rather get all the intents at the start of each round and adjudicate based on initiative, only going for clarification if something needs re-visiting (ie. dealing with exceptions, not with every action).

We're doing 4E and we've pretty much done a round a day in combat.

Well, if everyone in my group posted everyday, sure, we could make that, too. Hasn't happened once, though.

For KotS I was getting most turns in within 12 hours, some of them in less than six from the time their turn started. We did have one player that pushed the 48 hour limit most rounds and ended up missing three of his turns...and of course, Planeshaper who vanished.

Gonna be out all day tomorrow since I have work and am helping a friend move before that. I'll have my phone on me, but won't be able to do much for posting.
