Hey all, I'd love to get in on this. I haven't had a chance to participate as a player in a 3.5 setting in quite a while, and I'd love to give it a swing. If we're doing stat generation via dice roll: Is it roll four and take three, roll five and take four, or roll three and stick with what you get?

As for what character archetype to use, most of my in-game experience has me playing a cleric and I'd totally be down for doing that again. Though I've also played a Dwarven Defender, Ninja/Shadowdancer/Avenging Executioner, Apostle of Peace (I'm sorry, ok?), various fighters, etc. etc. I'm VERY familiar with the rules and have copies of my own books scattered all over.

I'll probably also be using Heroforge to generate a character sheet.

TL;DR: I can play/roleplay anything the group needs, so let me know. :D

Done and done. What do you wish to play? Tevish has a three-class character, so most things are on the table. See the first post of this thread for the overall book list that's permitted. Thanks.

Oh, and your question is answered as:... roll four and keep the top three. Rinse and repeat five more times for the basic scores.

Aww, so you don't want me as the group's PC-NPC? Aww.....

~SE++

Well, I could do something like that, (though we'd have to talk on PM about what you're actually offering, not sure I get it yet), but wouldn't you prefer to actually PLAY the game? You responded in time to be in the active party...

I think I get what you're asking about. There is the cook and acting ship's engineer, a female Gnome cleric/rogue named Noot. She's actually a really quirky character if you wish. The issue is that it's not a day-to-day sailing across the Trackless Sea. There will be times for interaction, but there will be a lot of time off of the ship. So, if you want, I could send you Noot's character sheet for your character, or you can go with a different character of your specification. If you're not actually an active player, I think Cato may have been also interested...not sure. So, can you clarify what you're going to do? Thanks.

Edit: Oops, Cato beat me to the punch. Still need your preference, though. Thanks.

I'm in almost all of the games currently going on in NGA, so I was just thinking that I could be an NPC hanging out who gives out info, like a bartender on the boat or something like that. Someone who isn't part of combat or leaving the main area (the boat or whatever), but you could pass me stuff I hear from the other patrons, maybe give the crew missions and the like. Mostly I wanna participate, but I don't think I'd have time to do it full-time, so I'd take on a role that's only needed sometimes. I'd still check in the threads for updates and the like, but it'd be a lightweight job. Just a way to add flare to the world. And maybe even buy / sell items. I could have a small stash of gold and run the bar like a pawn shop, so the players could sell off the items they pillage and don't need, and sometimes I'll have other stuff other NPCs have pawned that they might like. Again, just a way to add some flare to your game without having to be fully in it.

Sure, in that case, Noot is the best option, as she's already a crew member. You fine with a middle aged female Gnome who dresses in hideously glamered armor, calls everyone dearie, and acts like an old woman in port at the ship, but is an active Cleric of Olidamara/Rogue away from the ship? (AND just might have an active stash of things to sell/trade?) Seems like a good angle for the type of character that she already is.

That will free up a spot for Cato. If Noot sounds fine, we can discuss her over PM.

Sure, why not. Send me the info and I'll let ya know what I think.

As I said, I'd do my own thing wandering around the town, buying / selling goods, talking with the locals for intel, and periodically going back to the players and give them info and goods for their journey. Nothing heavy, just a few PMs here and there for what she finds and what gold she has to play with for the players. Honestly, she'll be looking to make her own gold, but it'd also get distributed to the players to benefit the game.

Hey Arcane don't know if you missed it (it's now 2 pages back) but any chance I can get an answer to this? Also if I do play a Shou migrant you got any issues with me just tearing Oriental Adventures apart for character ideas?

Same question as rstnme. What type of character are you interested in playing? So far, only a spellsword (fighter/mage hybrid), and a rogue are in the active group, so there's a lot of options to play. A wizard/sorc, a cleric (although someone may call the cleric presently) or druid, or a fighter type (fighter/barbarian/ranger/etc) tank. All of those are open to play.

Cool, should I just roll separately and have you take me at my word or would you like me to roll using the dice mechanic on the forum? (For the record, I just got 15, 15, 11, 12, 11, 9 - in no particular order.)

Give me a bit to read over the book list and I'll post a character momentarily.

EDIT: To be clear, we're not using any of the Complete books, correct?

I know this is probably answered somewhere but what seas exactly are you currently sailing on? I was intrigued by the fact that you included Oriental Adventures and was considering playing a Shou migrant (if only to get some use of of that book) but if we would be splashing around in the Sea of Swords or somewhat I may be just a little too far from home.

Also what, pray tell, is your opinion on the Leadership feat? I ask not for an army of minions but because it's a prerequisite for Purple Dragon Knights.

Edit: Obviously the migrant and knight are two different ideas. A migrant from the empire would have a hard time explaining why he is a member of long line of what are traditionally Cormyr nobility.

I'm open to most things, and someone already tore apart a Shugenja, so I'm very much in favor of people using the Oriental Adventures. Very cool stuff. The Shugenja was fleeing from overbearing lords looking to abuse her Spellfire ability. Anyway, there's a dozen reasons why a character could be halfway around the world. What class is the Shou migrant, please? (monk?) I am unfamiliar with the reference.

Also, Leadership doesn't mean you always have an army, as there are other applications, and every leader gets down at times. Maybe that's why you're headed east across the Trackless Sea from the continent to the north of Maztica (my custom area where the land is blank and I inserted my continent of Castelon, with Southport as the main port city on the east coast). 3e Forgotten Realms was awesome for putting your own spin on it. Armies can be raised later. What did you have in mind with it?

I personally love Purple Dragon Knights for the record. Very flavorful, very Faerunian.

CORRECT!!! If it's not on the list (meaning I don't have it) it's not in the acceptable references. First, complete books broke 3e more than it was, and second, I don't own them.

I've had people do the dice rolling mechanisms on the forums, since they're resident. Your scores are actually not bad, not quite as good as some of them, but definitely playable. Is that acceptable for the character you're thinking of? I can smell a multi-classed character coming, so do you have the raw scores to play one you would be happy with?

AA - Can you give us a brief overview of events thus far? I doubt I'll wanna read through all the posts of the adventure to know who / what we're doing. Well, I will need this at least since my character is already an established character in the crew.

Ah my mistake. By Shou migrant I merely meant a migrant from the Shou Lung Empire who travelled along the Golden Way to Faerun (which is why I would be using Oriental Adventures).

I didn't really have any plans for Leadership itself - it was just because it's a prerequisite for Purple Dragon Knight. I'm mostly just spit-balling ideas at this point. Although going to Maztica should be fun!

Don't mind at all. Here's the Cliff's Notes as Squinty has requested.

The Sea Dragon is commissioned to hunt pirates all along the Sword Coast by some rich business shipping interests in Waterdeep. A rival businessman and well-placed Waterdeep citizen had been paying pirates to target competitors. Anyway, the Sea Dragon recently extended their range to include the shipping lanes to and from Maztica and Castelon across the Trackless Sea. On their way into port (before the game), they were ambushed by Sahaugin and Scrag forces, killing several key crew members and a lot of sailors/marines. They hired the party for extra muscle for the return trip to Waterdeep. On the way out of port, the ship was ready for another battle and the Sahaugin obliged in another assault, and the part was key to breaking the assault this time. But, the ship is returning to port since many sailors/marines were killed yet again (and several crew members will be departing due to player inactivity.) You guys are the second wave of adventurers to get hired. As you get character sheets approved (boy, is this going to be busy for a bit!), you will start out at the Drunken Lemming, a sort of tavern that has a lot of oddities about it, not least of which is a ogre barkeep, and a Gnome owner that seems to know much about any topic. (won't go into why this is...just one of my fun things I have in the game!) Or, you can start out at the ship if you wish to skip the barkeep.

Actually, whatever reason you tromped around Maztica, you're actually heading from Southport in the south of Castleon (north of Maztica) back to Faerun, to Waterdeep. Just about anything is acceptable from the Oriental Adventures, as so is a lot of Faerun classes.

For everyone's use, if you haven't already, please read the first post, as it will give you the overall guidelines for the adventure so that we don't blow it up good for everyone. Thanks.

So I'm thinking either a Human Paladin/Purple Dragon Knight *or* A Hengeyokai Wu Jen/Shapeshifter depending on whether or not rstnme wants to be a Paladin. I'm good with either choice.

Edit: Actually I'm kinda leaning towards the Hengeyoki. Because that will be a whole barrel of laughs. I'll get to work on the background and what-not and should have a preliminary sheet up by tomorrow (give or take).
