Mana drain was banned as soon as the legacy ban list got separated from the vintage restricted list. I think it was pretty much preemptive, just because "mana drain".

Shoot, guess that means it's gone for good. Oh well...good times I'll always remember that Mahamoti Djinn/Triskelion deck fondly.

I can see drain being banned in legacy as a cost measure, but the card really isn't that abusive in legacy, I don't think.

counter spell is already good in legacy.

drain is a strictly WAY better version of counterspell.

i don't think it would be necessarily as strong as in vintage, but there would absolutely be tons of drain decks, and it would be in EVERY deck with blue.

FoW
Drain
Misdirection/Echo/Daze/Spell Spike

Would literally be in every deck. People would splash blue into everything because Drain makes the FoW+other package over the top.

To me, that's healthier than a meta running nothing but combo and aggro.

I'm pretty sure a $90 card is expensive. Unless you're comparing it to the Power 9...

It was a lot more expensive at one time a decade ago. I get it would warp current tourney settings, it's just fun to play with. I won't cry when it never comes back, but this thread is what would you like to see re-printed, not what do you think will. I was happy to see Berserk reprinted, but they can't all come back.

$90? Where are you looking? Try closer to $200...like $199.00 close (less if you buy Italian, lol).

I was going off the last time I sold some. Granted, that was... what, about 10 years ago so I could buy alcohol in high school? Guess they went up even more.

The Legacy meta is incredibly healthy right now. Control is something of an underdog right now, true, but that doesn't mean it doesn't still make showings, and literally every other style is solidly represented in the Legacy meta with more viable rogue decks than have ever been seen in Magic.

That aside, Mana Drain would be incredibly awful for Legacy. Sure, the at-a-glance use is "drop a Wurmcoil Engine gogogo!", but what about something like just dropping Jace? Do you know how much of an incredible play that would be/is? To drop a Jace on turn 3-5 and still have mana to do whatever? The meta would be Brainstorm, Force of Will, Mana Drain, Jace. It's the same reason that Gush is banned. Is Gush broken in the same sense that Yawgmoth's Bargain is broken? No, but Gush is overtly format warping. The format would, by unanimous conclusion, be "go Gush or go home". Though it may not be immediately apparent, Mana Drain is bad.

I don't think you comprehend the meaning of the word flame. Cause I was doing nothing of the sort.
