Oh come on, Chile is no Uganda, but their economy and therefore currency is still worth more than nothing.

Unless something blows up in his face, I'm guessing for sure on Newsom running in '28, maybe one of the other governors hopefully one from an interior state instead of a coast.

Just rewatched Unforgiven. What an amazing movie. I think I prefer it to Tombstone now as my favourite all time western.

Jess really liked Wicked….

From what I’ve heard, ppl who liked the play will like the movie.

I saw the play… and don’t have any interest in the movie :|

Man, I’ve been feeling a vibe shift in the culture the past ~2 years but the speed at which it’s picking up pace is remarkable. Preference cascade is real rn

Honestly hope the pendulum doesn’t swing too far but we are stupid moneys who like swinging pendulums too far so we’ll see how it goes

hmmmm, not sure what that post is about or referencing. If it's DEI, the pendulum is swinging back hard.

Walmart rolling back their DEI programs. It is dropped the acronym all together in all company comms. It's going to wind down the Center for Racial Equity. It no longer requires racial equity training for staff. This directly follows Ford, Lowe's, Boeing and Harley-Davidson who all did the exact same thing.

I can't really say that I'm having impact in my firm but I've been pressuring our DEI committees for years now on how to make better impact and things have been getting better. There's only been one training, never another session, and now we invite university groups of underpresented individuals (mainly women, by far the most underrepresented group in my industry) to visit our firm and spend a half day meeting people and understanding our industry. I think that stuff is very impactful for the future. Get involved in education institutions and communities, that's the only place you can have REAL impact. Not by checking boxes on your current workforce composition, that does nothing for the future. But by engaging underpresented groups to get them to participate more in the industry.

I'm hiring a position right now. 120 applications. 2 great, 2 good, 3 so-so. Massively varied and rich ethnicity mix of applicants, very few whites, but VERY few women, which sucks. I didn't get this couch for nothing.

Remember a couple weeks ago I told you that I sold a large batch of chili to a local food truck? They said they sold out in 5 days. Then i never heard from them. Never mentioned they wanted another batch. So my wife reaches out to them and asks for our crock pot back, they **** returned it to the store I bought it and pocketed the money. It was like 15 lbs of chili so I didn't have anything else to transport it other than the crockpot which had a lockable lid. I'm such an IDIOT

Walmart rolling back their DEI programs

It’s some things with the broader culture too (exs: Trump getting elected, seeing/hearing ppl say “retard” again in public, social media posts like that lady in Wicked calling fan art violence against her that 2 years ago would have gotten the artist doxxed and ppl contacting their employer to get them fired backfiring on her with ppl being sick to death of that ****, etc), but yes specifically reading about Walmart triggered that post.

I’ve noticed some attempts to rebrand DEI and we’ll see if they stick (and how reasonable they are in comparison) but DEI is a rapidly decaying corpse rn.

At my work it’s not completely gone but is toothless now. It’s been sidelined. It’s like the church lady hang out, where a handful of women gather to talk about it on their time but nobody else is forced to participate. I have no problem with that - whatever floats your boat - my problem was the mandatory participation and punishment of those who didn’t agree with every crazy thing said in its name and made the mistake of expressing it. I don’t care if I receive a mass email once a month that features some “inclusion” quote, I was bothered by having the first 5-15 mins of *every* meeting dedicated to it and being lectured to about retarded stuff like it being a myth that obesity has negative health consequences and Society only believes it does due to misogynoir (true story). I was bothered by my Latino friend (who’s a good hearted person) telling me there are too many white ppl in management at my work and in the name of DEI they should stop promoting white ppl even if they’re qualified - while we were playing catch with my white son - like bro you are trying to sell me on a future where my son should be denied opportunities because of his skin color *while he’s standing here listening* and this is supposed to be progress??!??!

So ya I’m glad to see it dying. But I also hope it doesn’t swing too far the other way. Some of those trad right wingers are as insane in the other direction

It can’t swing too far the other way. There are laws that prevent discrimination and such. But it’s very good it’s getting rolled back cuz it was getting retarded and massively ineffective.

It also puts people against each other

What I’m most looking forward to is the DEI industry coming apart. All those useless jobs wasting company money. I’m looking forward to those positions being cut

Some pro Palestinian senior DEI leader in British Columbia got fired after getting very vocal on social media against Jews or whatever. She was a big DEI person. She’s suing them for wrongful dismissal. It’s fun when it sort of turns on them

The Israel Palestine thing has been amusing. Very early on I noticed that on one hand I was seeing ppl who had been loudly against Cancel Culture suddenly becoming proponents of getting ppl fired/lost opportunities for expressing pro-Hamas opinions, and on the other hand ppl who had been loudly in support of Cancel Culture suddenly complaining about getting fired/lost opportunities and decrying it

A fun reminder for me that relatively few ppl actually have principled stances and also relatively few ppl think through the consequences of social weapons they support being wielded by their opponents

it's exactly the same as saying "supporting Israeli genocide." it's intentionally misrepresenting the position people are taking on an entire side of the conflict.

Pro-Israel. People that are pro-Israel aren’t pro-genocide just like pro-Palestinian peeps aren’t pro-terrorism.

To suggest otherwise is just being intellectually lazy
