Thanks for pointing that out. I never looked at it as being overqualified as I view these positions as a step up. I think I'll point to my history, 21 years at DTV and I never thought about leaving them. I'm of the age now where I value stability and reliability.

Say the stability thing and 100% say that you see it as a step up, and explain why

Cuz HR is gonna yellow flag the overqualified candidates

Hope you make it to interview. If ever you don’t, do this stuff in your cover letter in a clever way.

Earlier this year 2.2k US adults were surveyed on what salary they consider the MINIMUM to be financially successful.

The average is $270k with a net worth of 5.3 million, lol. Jeez that's high. When we break it down by how different generations answered, it gets really interesting (and hilarious, in my opinion).

Gen Z pegs a minimum annual salary of 600k LOL
Millienials aim for 180k (amazing what just a LITTLE experience gives you in terms of tempering expectations)
Boomers target 100k (which was ALWAYS my target as well when I was coming up).

worth mentioning: the average salary in the US is 67k (which is much higher than I anticipated)

Anyway, going to be a lot of really disappointed people out there. Except Boomers which makes sense given they have the most experience and know what stuff costs.

I have a young staffer making over the average who is thinking of leaving the firm to go get an MBA so he can get a much, much higher salary somewhere. he's gonna get 90k in debt to do it and take 2 years off (minimum), putting huge financial strain on his wife and putting back buying a house which she wants. So not the path I would choose, just keep growing in your role and expanding your responsibilities. If you act the part, you get the part.

Whats the median? And the minimun wage?

Over here minimun wage is $550.000, the median is roughly $400.000, the average is $740.000, and you would be succesfull around $3M, if you wanna buy a house you need to be above $2.5M.

So about 4X the average wage and about 6X the minimun...
You say that earning 40% + the average is financially succesfull?
Here at 2X the average you are OK, two incomes at that range in a household is pretty good, and you should be able to afford buying a house. Buying a house is probably a good threshhold, for being financially succesfull.

Lol! Yeah... let's trust the opinions of the pollsters who thought she was about to beat Trump this election. They clearly know what the public wants.

Tell me you want people like me to vote Republican for the rest of our lives, without telling us you want us to vote Republican for the rest of our lives.

Incompetent IDIOTS.

As an aside, I would not be surprised if a majority of the people who voted for her in this election would want to see her try again. The problem is that that would be a majority of an insufficient group of people to actually put her into office. You don't need a majority of that group, you need ALL of that group (which they definitely don't have), plus a substantial amount of people who didn't vote for her this time.

There is no **** way they've got that. Literally none. Because if they did, she'd be President Elect right now.

i'm not sure idealists can stomach the idea of what it takes to win a national election and how almost everyone is unelectable.

I had this problem after Hillary lost cuz I thought she was the most qualified candidate for President EVER. But I didn't realize to what extent she doesn't have what it takes to win a national election. And that's SUPER important.

What on earth made her "the most qualified candidate" ever?

There's no way, IMO, she was more qualified than, for example, her husband, or Joe Biden, or maybe even Obama, when she ran. How, for example, was she more qualified than Al Gore when he lost? Reminder, Gore had been in the House, Senate, AND Vice President (he'd also run for President, TWICE, by the time he lost to Bush Jr.). AND while I still think Gore was/is an idiot, how was she more qualified than him?

So surprised to hear this from you given you over-value time-in-the-White-House as being a major area of influence.

I think Secretary of State is a huge role in preparing you for the president as it requires so many qualities that are akin to being President. You're the head statesman for the country, which is very similar to being Head of State.

I'm probably intentionally undervaluing the role of VP though.

But Hilary was never VP and I think she was FAR more fit to be Prez than Kamala who was VP.

I agree with you that she was more fit than Kamala Harris - but that's not a difficult standard.

Only 6 Presidents were former secretaries of state, you'd still have to argue she was more qualified than all of them, even if you, IMO, overvalue that position.

She'd also have to be more qualified than every President that was running for reelection -> although, I'm sure that's not what you meant.

Yeah obviously not including those lol

For instance, Trump is more qualified than her. Better fit? No, but certainly more qualified

Kills me to say it but facts are facts

I do overvalue sec of state but that’s intentional. I think it’s the most important role other than Prez

Not sure what my beef is with VP. I shouldn’t see it a ceremonial role at all, like First Lady is

The problem is that being First Lady should have disqualified her as a candidate.

You see it as a ceremonial role, and that's fine, but it also makes her a proxy for a former President - AND that's NOT okay. It might have been fine, if and only if Bill Clinton were dead.

I'm not even really okay with a former First Lady being in line for President (on the short list). For example, I think it would be inappropriate for her to be Speaker of the House.

AND yes... before you ask, this will extend to former First Gentlemen (if that's the title, don't actually know), once they exist.

p.s.: I'm barely okay with the children of former presidents running for the position. And for the record, Bush Jr. would tend to lend some justification for that opinion. He was terrible, and only electable because of who his father was, IMO IMO IMO IMO...

Strangely enough that would indeed be the title because reasons and my quip about them not asking you was because of being a proxy for the pervious president aspect. The article pointed out that basically by the time '28 rolls around the field will be crowded. There were 20 names on the ballot for the New Hampshire Primary in 08 and 24 in 2016.

Did you really think I'd ask that? I don't think i'm the type that would ask a "gotcha" question. So lame.

This isn't a legal deposition.

I wasn't really thinking of you with that portion of the post. I get asked questions like that all the time, even here. I just like to preempt that kind of BS with the obvious response.
