I could 100% see someone who voted Dem vote for Republicans. Heck, I could even do it easily

But not if the President would be Trump if you voted against him in the past. He’s not a normal candidate. You either love him or you hate him. You don’t have apathy towards him. He’s not the Republican Party. He’s something different.

That’s where I’m coming from. I think most people are like us, like DJ

-/-/

Btw a Trump presidency means more inflationary pressures because of a few boring reasons I wrote about yesterday for work. But it also means more Inflationary policies. So I’m really curious to see how that plays out

I think most people can suffer through a bad candidate to avoid a bad result. I voted for Biden for exactly that reason, and I can't blame others for doing the exact same thing.

The only difference between them and US is that their priorities are different.

I want a President who doesn't sound like an idiot. (I'm still laughing at myself that this is a major reason I voted for Biden, ffs)
They want a President who doesn't make their lives worse.

BTW: I will grant you that Trump is probably going to make mistakes regarding the economy. His ideas on tariffs, for example, are bordering on STUPID. But, that's just it... he may have some bad ideas, Biden actually **** people's lives up, or at least he was in charge when it happened (which is the same thing).

p.s.: please try to understand some of this stuff I'm saying, because I find defending Trump exhausting. I can't stand the guy, I'm tired of going to bat for him.

The thing is that this was supposed to be a close race, it it was not, but the incentives to vote where there.

I keep seeing this a lot and I'd like to point out something using some numbers

From Pennsylvania
Donald Trump 50.4% 3,477,222
Kamala Harris 48.5% 3,342,438

Wisconsin
Donald Trump 49.6% 1,697,237
Kamala Harris 48.8% 1,668,757

That's without the other candidates who were on the ballot who did get votes including Robert F. Kennedy Jr. So, while nationally it wasn't close, in some of the states it was/is close.

You are reading the numbers in a way I think does not really explain what seems to have happened.

Given your voting systen you could very well know the conversion rate between Trump losing vs Biden and then winning vs Harris.

Some % would turn from Harris to Trump... Maybe but my guess is thats low. Some % would go Harris then dont vote, my guess looking at the numbers this should be the biggest chunk of thise 15M, and the rest would be Trump back then and Trump now, I think this number should be really high.

What % represents those 15M on the Dems vote is an interesting number.

Seems like the dems lost a base of voters, that does not mean they became Trump voters, coz they could just decide to not vote at all.

Seems like Trump base is solid, but not really growing.

In any case I need to look more data, when I have time coz life is intense nowdays.

We have a clear indication of a group that changed. I posted the data, and made a joke mentioning you Cucho.

Hispanics changed substantially. Is it enough on its own to explain the election result? no, but it's close, and it was a LARGE change. That is the base the Democrats lost that you keep asking about. And btw, the data I posted earlier is exactly the right kind of data for this analysis. (It's not ideally presented in the article, but it's still good enough to make the inferences I've been making).

As for the total number of voters... the better question is: why did we have 15 million more than expected last election (btw, I think - I'm not sure - that it had a lot to do with Covid... more people working at home, more people with more time than usual, and some policies in place that made voting easier because of dangers from the disease)? That was the weird election, this was not.

Well Newsom is already making moves to protect his state from Trump. Also looks like other states are doing the same as well.

This will also help Newsom make his name nationwide since he's out of the governor's office in '27

I don't think there's been a single episode of Blue Eye Samurai where I haven't fallen asleep. Last night was at 7:45pm which isn't even late.

It's gotta be animation doing that to me, no? Too much eye stimulation after a full long day of work? It just knocks me right out.

Exactly.

The final tallys had a huge difference. The states that have 1 or 2 large Democrat cities vs dozens of rural red counties were the ones that were close and that mattered. Forget the millions of votes difference nationally. It's the small margins she lost by (or lost ground compared to Biden) within those big cities that mattered. That's where 14% Hispanic, 7% Asian and 1% Black swung the race in Trumps favor.

Take Michigan for example. Detroit alone reps 50% of Mich population. The other 50% are rural red counties. Biden lost nearly every single county except Wayne County (Where Detroit is). But he won Michigan. In 2020 Biden got 197k (95%) of Wayne Co. Trump got 7.2k (3.5%) in 2024, Harris got 221k (90%) and Trump got 19.6k (8%)

Even in areas where there was a higher voter turnout than 2020, she lost ground. About 5% in Detroit. Which caused/helped her to lose Michigan by about 90k votes.

I just looked at Wisconsin and Georgia and the same thing happens there. She loses a few percentages in all the big city blue counties and that adds up to a slight loss in each important state. These are all states that Biden stole from Republicans last election.

Much better!! If I’m away from my house and smart toilet seat for too long, it’s a problem but I’m not expecting a long trip until mid February

Think I’ll book a nice cruise for Emily and I out of NYC or NJ

We should all go!!! DJ can crush us in trivia and we can pants him each time

I’ll point out to Cucho that the entire crew seems to be Filipinos and he’ll yell at me for making an observation

I’m shockingly bad at trivia. I doubt I could beat any of you, even if you are also bad at trivia.

I used to have a team in Montreal's hardest trivia game. Held at McGill university (best university in Canada)'s faculty lounge. Teams of 4 and we were against teams of 4 professors often. These questions were SO hard. "First item ever available in a vending machine" etc. There were something like 50 teams of 4 each time (once every month or two) and I think one time we finished 2nd which was INSANE for us. We were high-fiving all the time and hollering. Keep in mind the other teams exhibit ZERO emotion. Like these are the biggest losers ever. Some of them smell bad, there isn't one attractive girl in the entire room except for the score-runners. And these men show no happiness or satisfaction when they get stuff right. So we were real outliers.

Those were fun times lol. But yeah, i like trivia. On cruise ships I never miss a game. Emily is a great back-up cuz she is first to ring in (out of hundreds of people) whenever it's a Youtube personality or something. She's awesome.

Trivia is only fun if you trash talk though (same with bowling, mario kart, mario party, etc). You gotta trash talk.

I don't trash talk in poker....much... unless I get really lucky. Like I'll bluff-shove with 53s in the cutoff, get snap-called by AA in the SB and then crack him and I'll tell him he played his aces badly lol. To me, that's pretty funny cuz I look like an absolute moron.

Unfortunately if you're playing against real morons, it doesn't work. "you have NO CLASS sir" or something

Actually taking a poop break. Just want to make sure you have a mental image of me sitting on the toilet while I type this

i've never laughed at that. I've always said that no one is worse to minorities than minorities.

anyway, yeah I'm not looking at the same chart that you guys are. I'm looking at other stats and clearly the same ones Cucho is looking at.

I have a really really hard time believing people who did not vote for Trump in the past FLIPPED and voted for Trump in this election. that seems almost impossible to believe.

Some definitely did. Trump flipped the most Hispanic county in the country, a county on the Texas/mexico border that was previously a Dem stronghold

Here’s some of those voters explaining why they went for Trump this year - some mentioning it was their first time ever voting for an R (feeling like Dems have abandoned the working class and/or otherwise weren’t doing anything for them)
https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/20 ... for-trump/

In terms of some of the surprise I’ve seen over Trump gains with Latinos, the comedian’s joke at his rally about Porto Rico aside (blue collar ppl are less easily offended by off color/provocative jokes in my experience), he doesn’t talk negatively about Latino Americans. They’re *Trumps voice* Very Fine People, the Best People, Tremendous even and they make the greatest tostadas! He talks negatively about illegal immigrants but: (1) in polls Latino Americans have responded in the 70% range about identifying as Americans rather than “immigrants”, (2) illegal immigrants isn’t synonymous with Latinos (recall the pre-election kerfuffle over Haitian immigrants eating cats and destroying Ohio or whatever it was), and (3) the ones voting are American citizens. Especially when you get into working class Latinos, illegal immigration hurts them by driving down wages and reducing opportunities

Hey, sorry to tangent but Timh’s opening there reminds me of something I recently realized but that no one talks about :

As Timh has pointed out, most of us are on our phones on the toilet during poop and poop-adjacent activities. Most people wash their hands after.

Those phones aren’t getting cleaned at all. The phone is touched non stop during and after poop and poop-adjacent activities.

And then in a restaurant when a person comes back to the table, where does the phone go? BACK ON THE TABLE. Right on the linen, beside utensils and food

There has GOT to be some fecal matter on the phone no?

And this is PERFECTLY ACCEPTABLE in society. No one bats an eye.

There is poop on the dining table.
