If they don’t get the trifecta, I will see it as weird. The house is the result of the popular vote, which DJT won.

It would be very strange, to me, for him to win the popular vote, while still losing the house. How were people voting at that point?

Also, happy bday!

Thank you, on the bright side this means that whoever chooses to run in '28 will have a clean slate for the Dems.

very excited, just put in an order for 4x the best winter tires. Sparing no expense. Gonna be doing lots of driving in my relatively new car with Emily this winter and want my car to be wearing the best shoes for snow and ice.

Don't know if anyone cares, but I enjoy statistics so here are some... ^^^^

... In case anyone wanted to know who voted for whom.

Edit: Looks like the big swing was, get this, Latinos. Of all the people who might vote for Trump, Latinos are the group that changed the most favorably (for him) in their support. You know the people he's supposedly the most directly racist against.

To me, it looks like the biggest factor was super low dem voter turnout. It’s astonishingly less than last time. 15 million fewer voters? They show up and its a slam dunk.

Take a look at the stats I posted... I don't think that shakes out. Yes, sure, low turnout may have been a factor. But Harris improved across a lot of groups over Biden four years ago. This is a proportional evaluation, more people might not change the ratios.

BUT she lost a LOT of ground with Latinos.

Look at the breakdown of Sex by Race. Most categories remained unchanged (or improved slightly), EXCEPT Latinos.

John King of cnn made a point that it it turns out people do live in "fly over country" and they feel ignored and rightly or wrongly they blame "liberal elites"

I've been complaining about democrats ignoring those states for a while now. But losing the popular vote implies an even bigger problem. It's one thing to ignore the way the electoral college works, it's another entirely different issue when you're so deeply unpopular the majority of people would rather take a chance on a potential would-be tyrant.

I don't think there was going to be any way that the dems would have won. As Jim Carville said back in the 90's "The economy, stupid."

Speaking of jim here's his post election day message on where/when he thinks it all went wrong

Jim meandered a bit too much for me.

I don't think this election was unwinnable, not by a mile.

But talking up the obviously bad economy as though it were good was a huge misstep. People are stupid, obviously, but nobody is that stupid.

And I still think Harris was a terrible choice. Better than Biden, sure, but not nearly better enough.

Any other person would had to deal with same economy along with depending on who you go with a match up they may have also gotten slammed on their covid response. You'd basically have had to find someone who could fire up the base and that voters in general would have liked better than Trump.

Tbf to Harris, talking about the economy as though it was good was not her mistake. She inherited that from Biden.

I was thinking holistically about all of the Democrat mistakes, of which there were many.

The first speaker in this interview (her portion is first ~10 mins) nails several things I believe are correct about the working class realignment. Many of the things she touches on match my observations over the past decade or so. I inhabit a space between white and blue collar worlds and agree 100% with her comments on working class culture

The 2nd guy (Zaid) is pretty good too - I follow him on Twitter and usually enjoy his (left leaning) centrist takes. I haven’t finished the 3rd guys portion yet so no comment.

I really feel like the 15 million democrats who stayed home are the main story. The people that voted trump last time did it again. There’s nothing new going on that side.

But the Dems are a disaster. Trump didn’t win this election, the Dems lost it.
