Yeah, I can't disagree with you about my card. Herald of Anafenza was the comparison I was thinking of in terms of slow infinite card advantage engine one-drops that take all your mana, although mine is even slower and stronger than that one, which I agree is bad. I was mostly trying to figure out how to get the Fibonacci sequence on a card and I was just happy I found a way to do it without ten lines of text.

Coming back to it, it should probably cost a resource other than time. I think ", Sacrifice a non-Treefolk creature" might be more fun, and then reflavor it somehow. That way it has a real cost but you can also skip ahead couple steps if you draw it on turn ten.

Yeah, that's fair. In my head, I got carried away thinking it could be a larger subtheme so an "Apprentice deck" could actually be viable (in limited at least). Like, there could be an uncommon cycle that gain a static ability upon a threshold of counters, etc. Maybe even a spell (a lesson?) that upgrades if you have X counters across your board, so the extra counters would be useful (like how Armored Scrapgorger gains counters he doesn't care about, because they're useful in a larger context).

Obviously that's no good for a single card submission, though! Side note - hybrid effects that fit on common activated abilities are pretty tough to come up with .
