One thing I noticed recently on my receipts is a suggested tip is given, some times it's 15/20/25% and others it is 18/20/22. It's not the suggestion I've recently noticed but that it is wrong most of the time. I've always figured tip in my head but most of the time I'll glance at the suggestion and it's several % higher than it says it is.

This is what happens when a bunch of idiots get to make trends. 15% was never a problem. Now everyone is starting to think 20% is too low. All the while inflation is happening. I was just traveling last week, and the place I was at simply auto included 15% on everything, which was fine, but felt very inappropriate/pushy. I was okay with it there, because the service was always good, but imagine the complacency that would cause in most places in the US. Truth be told, the place had already inflated prices, so it did feel a bit oppressive, even with the fact that I didn’t mind that much.

There’s a huge difference, also, if you do pre vs post tax. It’s supposed to be pre, but now everyone is doing post.

The worst trend, that just needs to **** die, that I’ve seen recently: restaurants with happy hours, suggesting you tip on the non happy hour total. That might be what you saw, btw, sixty. The first time I saw that, I was shocked: my first thought was they did their math wrong, but my immediate second thought is that this was designed to cheat me.

It's probably the pre/post tax thing most of the time. I've never done non-happy hour price tipping for happy hour items but I do have a few spots I go where the staff gives me drinks at employee pricing (70% off) so I tip them 20% of the normal price.

Youre right, most of the time 15% is plenty.

I used to do 13% pretax which is 15% post tax

But now I do the minimum they give me

I used to work in the service industry. I tip generously, especially when the bill is small, but even when the bill is large.

I’m still annoyed by the new tipping nonsense, though. Tipping isn’t a **** tax, it’s a gift, or at least it’s a payment for good service.

I'm wondering which coverage to watch on tuesday. Amazon will have their own election coverage with Brain williams, then there's peacock which means Chuck Todd and ABC on disney+. There's also the option of resubbing to Max to get CNN which means I can also watch some movies and other stuff I haven't seen

I’d recommend CNN. Max is worth it, IMO.

Man, I don't know if there is a no-ads level for Election Night Coverage on CNN. I'll be watching - If I can actually bear to watch it - on regular TV CNN. I'm not sure what they'd fill the ad breaks with, in a no-ads version.

I guess I'll find out since I jsut resubbed to max, and now i can watch all three parts of the crisis on infinite earths, along with the recent mad max movie. The online via their website when you watch does a "commercial break in progress" screen, which I like better than dealing with ads and now i gotta ask: Are your bags packed? Have you started house hunting?

I wish it were more of a joking matter. But the decision is somewhat out my hands, so on the one hand 1) no not yet, but 2) I wasn’t kidding when I said I’d be forced to leave (or something similar).

I’d put it at under 10% that I’ll be able to stay in the US if Trump wins (0% that I’d want to, but that’s a different issue).

So it’s not a certainty, not by any means, but it’s a high probability that your joke may soon be my reality, if he wins.
