Devil, probably not. Not much time to play so what I do have I'm spending practicing for Saturday's Manu Series race at The Green Monster.

I'm doing both really considering I'm driving for BMW again and that's what I'm running in the daily. Just at the point of laying down times now. Getting used to the M4 on hard tires is a bit of work in getting the times I'm used to.

What do you mean? I feel like I may be missing something. Why would that be sending a signal? or at least what signal? and why should that signal be cause for concern?

Hey Timh and DJ, I was having dinner with our COO last night who keeps on industry trends and such, and he was saying that some universities are starting to roll out anti-DEI policies as a protection from litigation. This was always going to be the natural consequence of this movement, but I always thought it would have happened in businesses first and THEN universities. I'm surprised it's already happening there but that's where the more activism is happening so maybe it makes sense.

Anyway, this will be interesting to follow

Racism and sexism don’t stop being a problem if you direct them at other people or sexes. This should have been obvious on day one. I’m frankly shocked it’s taken this long.

yeah sounds like it's creating massive problems in university (which they are ultimately reponsible for) so it's getting backed off.

I mean, i know i'm a broken record, but haven't I been saying for at LEAST a decade that tribalism is bad? DEI heavily promotes tribalism.

I spend way too much energy holding back from saying things these days.

As you all know, I live in Texas - as state that is so red, it, on its own, is a major reason why Republicans have any hope for national public office. Without Texas, Trump would have, basically, no chance of getting elected. If Texas ever flips blue, the Republican Party would effectively have to completely change its messages.

Meanwhile, in this state, which is, as mentioned, super red, people blame the Democrats (who don't even run the state) for all of their local problems. I'm reading political posts from people, who seemingly think Houston is a purely blue city, despite our Republican Mayor, Republican Senators, and Republican Governor. I'm not sure what the Democrats even control (although this is not always the case; we have had Democrat mayors in Houston with some frequency) for Republicans to complain about.

It's **** insanity.

Also, because of reasons that drive me up that wall, I'm getting texts, calls, letters, etc... for three people. It's non-stop political spam for me, every four years. I can't wait for this election to be over, even if the end result is global armageddon, I just don't care anymore, lol.

Been watching Hot Ones a lot lately. Their interview editing is really good and they have a way of making big impacts on the viewing experience with subtle or conservative uses of special effects.

This Peter Dinklage interview is great. Sean as always displays thurough knowledge and research on his interviewee and Peter is Peter.

The movie Brothers with Peter and Josh Brolin is hilarious. Reminds me of Raising Arizona. I never new Josh was so funny. You guys should watch it.

Yeah I enjoy lots of those. Very funny and entertaining

The funny thing is the guy is a pretty terrible interviewer but because of the gimmick and the editing, it totally works

Maybe he used to be. Maybe he got a new research team from when he started. I've been pretty impressed with the level of info about his interviewee that he comes prepared with. He has some evergreen questions he rotates around for each guest but he has a way of getting his subject to really open up. He never overshadows the star and seems to be a likeable guy. He's no Carson or Sawyer but he seems pretty good.

Interesting indeed. I feel like it went from 0 to 60 during the pandemic and the pace was so abrupt and intense most people swallowed what should have been obvious concerns and just rolled with it.

But honestly, in the case of universities I’m surprised the primary reason given isn’t administrative bloat. I saw a listing of DEI related staff at U of M and it was insane both in number of personnel and salaries being paid. Lotta talk past few years about tuition costs and student debt and this is where a big chunk of their money is going? :ookay:

Nobody is ever going to suggest that DEI hires cause administrative bloat - even if it's true. That's a non-starter, even if the decision is made to close those programs permanently. Can you clarify the 0 to 60 comment? I'm not sure what you mean by that. These programs have been around for a long time, do you mean the push back went from 0 to 60?

The administrative bloat is very interesting in both the DEI and ESG fields. Both have created a bunch of jobs who's very survival is linked to the validity and acceptance of these concepts as MUST HAVEs going forward. When, in fact, neither is necessary at all (that's not saying they are bad). So as those sub-industries start to experience push-back and claw-back in terms of spending, it'll be interesting to see how they really push for their importance. And the only time there is major pushback is when those groups make big noise, so they're incentivized to stay quiet. It's a really interesting dichotomy.

I used to go to ESG conferences and challenge the value add of it, and i'd always be at a table full of women looking at me like i'm a monster. But ultimately, that's what happened. People grew tired of giving up on investment returns.

I’m referring to its explosion in the corporate world, which is my experience with it. At a Fortune 500 company, we had started to receive annual sensitivity trainings in the years before the pandemic but it was relatively mild and more or less sane. I wouldn’t describe it as overbearing, and there wasn’t an overt anti-white aspect to it then. At least in the trainings I was exposed to. They had their womens leadership focused groups but there wasn’t open anti-male sentiment. All more or less sane.

Then during the Summer of Love it ramped up to 11 in intensity. Went from annual sensitivity trainings to bi-weekly DEI race and gender struggle sessions, having to do Inclusion Moments at the start of literally every team meeting, being assigned an *entire package* of DEI related trainings each year, being assigned reading lists of “anti-racism” books, being told which political parties to vote for, hiring DEI execs and teams of staff under them, etc. It went absolutely bananas and wildly overstepped bounds of appropriate mandatory workplace activities. When I’d be speaking to coworkers confidently they’d say it was all nuts and inappropriate, but only in private. Publicly everyone just smiled and nodded along. There was a palpable fear of cutting against the grain and the very few people who pushed back in public settings faced consequences (one guy got a whole ass all-company email about him sent from the CEO saying how [Company] doesn’t tolerate racism and his behavior was unacceptable, because he asked a DEI speaker during a company training about the possible impact of fatherlessness on incarceration rates in the black community as an alternative explanatory factor to pure anti-black racism)

Vibe shifted past year or two tho. In my part of the corporate world it’s not gone but it’s dialed back a substantial amount. DEI exec “left the company to pursue other opportunities” and was never replaced, and the team that was under her is gone.
