I just recently found out my dad was an avid cross country skier. Apparently he was on the school team (Ohio) and then led a club after school.

Shortly after I was born the house burned down (they never discovered why, but I'm sure I'm part devil) and we moved to Texas then Oklahoma so he never cross country skied again and I didn't find out till I was 43... 25 years after he died.

I've never snow skied in my life.

cross country is hella boring. You'd have to really be into outdoors/nature to enjoy it cuz the sport itself blows.

Cucho, i think we'd be good ski partners. i basically just want to go fast and do as many jumps as possible lol (when I was younger). So much fun. We could go heli-skiing with DJ, crash, and then eat him.

That sucks that the casino closed. That sounds like my little slice of heaven. Skiing, casino, Cucho, DJ... i'm good until Spring*

oh, wait is winter backwards down there? I'm not good with the geography

Lol, good luck with that... you'll find me at the chalet, drinking mulled wine. At this age the most I'd likely do is sky down pretty flat slopes. I haven't been on a slope in over 20 years.

I have to fly back to LA from Philly on Christmas Eve and that is one experience that I am not looking forward to. My wife's grandma turns 90 the weekend before and her dad's birthday is that weekend too so it's a big family block party. Tuesday was the cheapest flight back and due to circumstances I don't really have the budget to not take the cheapest flight. There is a 1 hour delay in Denver I'm worried about, but Denver is small and easy to navigate so we should be fine.

it's called a layover, not a delay. Man, you are playing with fire traveling in winter with a one hour layover lol. Shouldn't be insane busy though. It's not like the sunday after thanksgiving or anything

I'm gonna book a cruise probably for Emily and I in mid-february but I want to avoid air travel so much in winter that I'll likely just drive down to Jersey or NYC and use a cruise leaving from one of those cruiseports. Reduce risk.

Jess was at Disney last week on vacation so she « dodged a storm » if you pardon the expression

My mom and stepdad used to live almost exactly where it hits landfall tonight. Would have been a nightmare.

Where it pops out on the other coast is the main cruise port Emily and I have used twice so I’m sure all of that industry is massively affected too. Not a good season to be down there. I don’t think I’d go at all in September, October. Not sure how bad November is usually

It would be great if this kind of thing made her unelectable rather than more electable.

Started watching Mayazaki’s Boy and the Heron last night and fell asleep. Can’t wait to finish it next week. Seems really good

I heard comments that it’s his opus so can’t wait cuz I’m a big fan

Oh man, big day for Barney…

Work Barney

Found out this evening that I closed a half billion mandate which I’ve been working at for a year. It’s gonna 17x the growth of a fund we recently launched, giving it full legitimacy which will attract further assets in North America. Flying to Toronto twice this month and the COO wants to take me out for dinner with my boss, and that was before this news came out. Gonna be a great thing for the firm and will likely be fully or half attributable to me which is exciting.

Daddy Barney

Driving Emily to Ottawa tonight for Canadian thanksgiving weekend. She says she has a random
Question for me (13 yr old girls don’t really initiate conversation with their father, so this is a big deal). She asks at what age it’s normal to date but « you know, not do anything inappropriate ». I say she’s pretty much there. Grade 8 is a totally normal time to start to date and figure it out cautiously.

So we talk about that for a bit and then she decides to announce to me that she has a girlfriend now

Oh man, what a proud moment for a dad when your beloved kid feels comfortable enough revealing such a big thing in their life to you. That they trust your reaction enough to know it’s a safe thing to open up about.

Absolute magical moment. So happy for her and proud of her. She starts a new school on Tuesday and this long time friend of hers is at the other middle school, so that’s probably why she’s opened up about it

Since she’s gonna be entering a medium-distance relationship, I felt it was the right time to tell her finally about Jess, who’s she has met twice and it went well. So she’ll know her old man is in a somewhat similar situation lol

Anyway, big day for Barney

She is in a few other shows too. She's in Yellowjackets which i like. It's about one of your favorite subjects. A (high school) soccer team's plane crashes into a mountain and they're stranded with no hope of being saved. My wife likes it more than me but it's pretty good. She's also in Sweetpea where she plays a serial killer. I haven't seen it but we have it on the list because of her.

She looks like an alien to me. So does Anya-Taylor Joy.

What's up with these enormous-eyed actresses of late. Don't get me wrong, they are both pretty, and obviously so. But they are very weird looking, and not in the exotic kind of way.

Obviously, subjective as all hell.

_______________

On another note, I'm down to about half a pack a day, and dropping fast. I know that probably doesn't sound as impressive as it should, but to give it some perspective, I've basically broken every smoking habit already, other than sharing a cigarette after dinner out with my wife, which I'd probably keep doing for the rest of my life if it didn't mean I'd smoke more than that.

Also, I think I'm coming out of my funk finally. I guess I really just needed a break.

break from what? Glad you're coming out of a funk. We all go through those sometimes. I get called out on hard when I'm in one, lol. So unfair. A totally normal thing to go through.

yeah I don't like Anya-Taylor at all, but i find this girl really pretty, can't take my eyes off her. Her lips are amazing too, no idea what her best feature is.

Congrats on getting the smoking down. Two weekends ago, i had a moment of weakness at my best friend's bday party and had a few when everyone was sharing. Then the next day at poker, i bummed 2-3 during breaks. Dammit.

Didn't smoke at all during last week or last weekend so hopefully it was just a blip. Poker this weekend so hopefully I can avoid the temptation. I'll do something else during the break like eat hot dogs or play on my phone.
