Oh we are doing plenty of that, we kinda have great conversion rates for sustainable energy, yet as you said is not enough.

We are at 7,59% use of solar energy... so we are far above you developed countries.

yeah, we're only 6% in Texas, but close to 29% from wind. To put that second number in perspective... if Texas were its own country, it would be the 7th best wind energy generation country on the planet. We're also a much larger economy than the next 6, for whatever that's worth.

I think the wind percentage is probably too high, but then again we have huge amounts of cheap natural gas, so it works for us.

We should harvest thermal energy from volcanoes... that would be amazing.
We have some wind stuff too, mainly in the south, but we need a lot moar power...

Quebec is HYDRO POWER BAY-BEEEEEEE

Pilots call Montreal the "city of lights" cuz we have so much electricity, it's sick

DJ, i only know one VC shop out west in Alberta. Our firm is more focused on firms that are 12-24 months to IPO. "Private placements" we call it. just a small part of some of our portfolios.

That's another project I'm kind of working on, lol. Or really trying to get to work on, but I'm already in discussions.

I'm not a big fan of geothermal energy, but I've studied it, so it's a possible industry for me to do some consulting work.

@BB, any help would be help... lol (I'm not really serious, but you never know)

Really hard to make them profitable at a reasonable contract price. Even with huge government incentives. I’ve got some ideas on how to fix the situation, sometimes, but I won’t be discussing them here.

Is there any other way? I think no.

most of the voters of right wing parties just vote for them because migrants = bad.

As long as I am not rich and/or own a big company there is literally no reason to vote for a right wing party.

Well I only have 2 brain cells, so I can't talk about what I'd do with more than that.

However, I work in the energy business, and I support multiple companies that are in, at a minimum adjacent to, Green industries. And I can tell you, with little doubt, that the Greenification of Germany's grid was probably a mistake. Because of their use of green energy, they have become much more reliant on natural gas for backup generation, which in turn comes from Russia. Maybe if I had a 3rd braincell, I'd be able to explain why this is a mistake, and an unfortunate departure from Germany's formerly heavily reliant on coal economy (6th largest reserves in the world), and the even dumber move towards abandoning nuclear power (which doesn't even emit CO2). A 4th braincell would find a solid argument to lay the blame for these poor decisions at the feet of liberals, who seem to think that wind and solar energy are abundant, cheap, and, most importantly, reliable.

As an aside... are you too poor to consume electricity? Because I feel like most people care about the price of electricity. The promise was that prices would go down (based on extremely faulty modeling of levelized costs, an area in which other people, with fewer braincells than me, consider me to be an expert); instead they've doubled (or worse).

In fact, I'd posit that only the rich don't care about the price of electricity.

Just to clarify: my comment wasn’t meant as an attack on you personally.
What I meant is that it's not logical to vote for right-wing parties purely because of concerns over green energy, especially when, in countries like Austria and Germany, those parties (FPÖ, AfD) are openly racist, homophobic, transphobic, and support policies that largely hurt poorer people.

I understand your concerns about Germany’s green energy transition, but personally, I don't see the shift to renewable energy as a mistake. The climate crisis is accelerating, and if we don’t address it, rising energy costs will be the least of our problems. Moving away from fossil fuels, including coal, is essential for the long term. Yes, Germany did rely heavily on Russian gas, which became a problem, but as of 2022, they no longer get gas directly from Russia. From what I know, only a small portion of the gas now imported through Belgium and the Netherlands comes from Russia.

The nuclear power debate is tricky. While nuclear energy is CO2-friendly, the risks associated with accidents and the issue of nuclear waste remain significant concerns. Even some environmentally-conscious people support it for its low emissions, but others argue the long-term risks aren't worth it.

As for the economic argument, I’m not as familiar with the US, but here in Europe, voting for economically right-wing parties tends to make things more expensive for the average person. Left-leaning parties are more focused on reducing costs for basic needs like energy and raising wages. In contrast, right-wing parties often push tax breaks for the wealthy, while majority of people are struggling with rising living costs.

Are they actually racist, homophobic, transphobic, etc...? Or just accused of these things (I honestly don't know)? There is a difference, because there are plenty of examples of both things, meaning actually racist people, and people who aren't but are accused of racism anyway.

The shift IS a mistake if the people were told it would reduce prices and the politicians believed it too. If instead the politicians lied, voting for them is suspect.

People certainly say those things about nuclear, I think they are overblown, though. And if I'm right, overblowing those risks is extremely damaging, because it makes people think the only low/no-CO2 option is extremely expensive, and unreliable wind and solar. As an aside, canceling coal was **** stupid. There are ways to make zero-emission coal-fired plants, and they aren't that expensive. I know, because I currently support a company whose technology does exactly this, but with harder generators than stationary coal plants. Why the **** wouldn't Germany use and further develop this technology?!? is it pure politics? stupidity? Reminder: 6th largest coal reserves on the planet, which can be converted, cheaply, to electricity, with almost no CO2 emissions at all.

Voting Right tends to make things more expensive for the average person? I just want to point out the contradiction in what you just said, but only to demonstrate why some other people might disagree with your viewpoint. You just excused away a doubling of electricity costs, caused by the left, despite a promise of reductions. That also makes things more expensive for the average person. When politicians fail to do what they promise, it's easy to understand why people might vote opposite of you -> there's no trust, and frankly there should be no trust.

In the US (note: this is not the majority of Trump voters, who are in fact idiots with less than 2 brain cells), there are people who are voting for Trump, because they believe the risk of Trump (personality mostly) is lower than the damage Democrats will definitely do with their economic policies. I hope that sub-group of Trump voters is wrong, because otherwise I've been duped by the left into voting for policies I don't particularly like.

Zero emission coal fired plants?

Yeah man, there are at least two technologies that can do it. Both of them capture nearly all of the CO2 (we claim at least 95% and our competitors say similar things) and trap it in a form that can be transported for use or disposal. I know of another couple technologies that are in development that, if successful, would have similar results as well.

If people/governments are willing to pay for zero-emissions, it can already be done.

To be clear, these technologies are NOT specific to coal, but they are certainly applicable to coal.

BB will rightly point out that the coal industry is not just being reduced politically, and that there are other reasons. BUT, for the political component, I'd call it wrongheaded.
