That article didn’t say they aren’t people as in human beings, but rather The People, as in citizens of the US.

"The Second Amendment protects the right of ‘the people’ to keep and bear arms. Our court has held that the term ‘the people’ under the Second Amendment does not include illegal aliens" therefore the argument can be made that illegal aliens are not the people who are granted any of the other protections such as due process and the rest. Which is what i was implying, but I guess i wasn't clear on that.

Quote:
It’s kinda weird tho. Defendant essentially saying I don’t respect your country’s laws but I demand its protections

it's called irony

My support for illegal alien rights exists mostly to avoid abuse of Latin Americans who are in our country legally. I don’t know of any reason why, for example, we’d be schooling children who are not here legally. Being here legally changes everything for me, but I’m not at all sure why that distinction is even political. I’ve always found it a bit weird, if I’m honest. It’s certainly one of the places where I disagree with Democrats. If there were a way, without disadvantaging actual American citizens (and that’s really hard to do), I would be in favor of much stricter laws.

I think it goes back to the founding and slavery and then the 14th amendment's equal protection clause "“deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws"
I'm honestly not sure on how I feel about this issue. I think what I'd be happier with is the system getting the funding and hiring or judges it needs and other parts that causing the backlog.

This newshour article goes into some the laws and they came to be understood in reference to illegal aliens https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/w ... rants-have

Finished watching America to Me. Really incredible docuseries. Probably the smartest, most thoughtful thing on race I’ve ever seen. Really great. The kids are amazing and a bunch of really engaged teachers too (and some garbage administrators)

I think DJ will like this or anyone that’s watched JD Vance a bit …

4 pages into Fairy Tale by Stephen King and I'm hooked like no other book before. This poor kid; I just want to scoop him up and take him home, safe.

594 pages to go....

Don't expect a review soon. This is one I'm reading outloud to my wife so that takes longer, both in reading out loud and in finding time together to do it.

The last book I read to her was a collection of H.P. Lovecraft short stories which I had to stop reading once we got to the story where the protagonist has a cat named N*****-man

Oh boy, can’t wait to hear more about this King book

And my most hooked book of all time was also a King book. I couldn’t read it fast enough

The next book you read her should be Huck Finn

I take back everything bad I ever said about women sports. If this type of thing becomes as reliable as fights in hockey, I think the ladies can pull some serious actual attendance numbers

My most hooked book was Haunting of Ashburn Hill. After I hit the half way mark I finished it in 3 settings.

King is an amazing storyteller. Chapter 1 got me by the heartstrings. I think someone broke into my house and started chopping onions.

Maybe the best commercial evah? I was expecting another scare-the-crap-out-of-you anti-drunk-driving ad, but the Kiwis decided to go another way...

If that was a Canadian anti-drunk driving commercial 100% it would have ended with the drunk guy flying thru his windshield after crashing into a telephone pole

My new favorite quote comes from Landslide in Rancho Palos Verdes, California, threatens homes, prompts evacuations

"It's just kind of mind-blowing," one resident told ABC Los Angeles station KABC. "It doesn't feel legal."

Do you have any advice for prompting? I usually just use my Dalle prompts for it

I'm doing a little GT7 right now. Remembered why I quit. It was a weird penalty system where break checking on the straight, causing someone to rear end you, gave them a penalty. It tanked my Safety Rating (SR) to B tier.

Getting back into I thought I could organically get my SR back to S. Not in a lobby full of people with B ranked SR. Those guys are crazy, and they think I'm one of them.

Example; this driver has a 1 Bar internet connection so his car is teleporting left and right while driving forward. Typical bad internet connection, but it makes it hard to pass safely because I don't know exactly where his car is. It doesn't help he's a squirrelly driver. So of course contact happens as I pass despite my best effort. Next 4 laps the guy decides were rivals on the Hattfield and McCoy level. Guy tries to kill me 3 times.

So the solution is to drop back at beginning of race and drive from the back of the pack so as to avoid contact. I'll get a Clean Race bonus and my SR soars back to A/S ranking. That's what I did in this race. Problem was, these guys are so bad at racing I'd have to stop and wait for them to stay ahead of me, so I had to some overtaking... still got the clean race bonus and my SR is A now.

I had a terrible thought today: Is it safer to go to high school than to be a high school driver? or vice versa?

Also, yet another high school shooting today.

Question: What, if anything, makes the US special wrt things like high-school shootings? Is there something societal? Perhaps, lower safety nets? Perhaps, a culture with higher expectations for upward mobility?

I'm asking, because while the US has relatively lax gun laws, we are hardly the only country in the world where access to guns is relatively ubiquitous. But we are fairly unique in terms of the effect of having so many available guns.
