Ohh for **** sakes there are children reading this!

Lol nice

I was thinking about that. If kids come here then they have internet

They can find their way into this thread and read about dumpster love between me and no less than three of Timh’s orifices.

Or

They can easily jump to thousands of websites where they can see videos of such things or any number of violent and salacious acts.

This is probably the best and safest place for them in the digital space, anyway

Learning about age of consent and punitive energy policy

NGA : The more you know…

Yes I agree carbon taxes are a weird solution to global warming and climate change. Seems like there are better avenues to pursue

Sin taxes don’t really work

It's funny you should say that, but I've spent a lot of time thinking about carbon taxes over the last few years, and I'm actually in favor of them. I'm not in favor of the way Canada has used them to pick winners and losers, but if they are applied ubiquitously I think they are the best way to ensure that companies can at once 1) meet their fiduciary duties, while 2) appropriately reducing their environmental footprints.

You eventually get clear winners and losers from Carbon Taxes, and those winners are determined by market forces - i.e.: the right, economically sound, way.

__________

For Timh (or at least I think it was Timh)… this just randomly appeared on my YouTube feed and damn, this is a cool video on modern slang.

Mad Men is back on Netflix so I finally get to watch it. Just finished season 2. Man the girls in this show are soooo cute. So much great stuff in this show. Netflix says it’s a 2014 show but it had tons of seasons, I’m surprised it’s that recent

I haven't actually gone down the rabbit hole with him, I just watched the one video, but he seems to have a lot of videos on similar topics, and I have to admit I'm a bit intrigued by linguistics, so I probably will eventually.

I figured you'd like it, it was extra.

Leave it to Canadians to screw up and miss the obviously superior short hand: homi

Is it only two seasons and then all done? Or is it just a season finale?

Just season finale.

After three Mad Men episodes in a row, I did some channel flipping between Olympics, Men in black III and Miss teen USA. Almost all the girls look like they’re 30, it’s nuts.

They’re doing some marathon of twilight movies on one of the networks. Those movies are incredibly bad. I would flip to random ones throughout the day and you can’t even last 2-3 minutes without something just absolutely terrible, usually the acting, script or story. Those movies are beyond trash

Hope Oklahoma wins. She’s the only one left (top 10) that looks normal lol

Canada's record is a 2-hour riot after a hockey win/loss (it doesn't matter which)

---

So on the England rioting...

First of all if you google "England riots", it asks you which year do you mean. Do you mean 2024, 2011 or the ones in the 90's (lol, PLURAL. no specific year). so you guys like your riots.

So a mass stabbing in Southport set off this wave of anti-immigration riots. It actually LOOKS and FEELS similar to the origin story for V for Vendetta. If you remember, before High Chancellor Adam Sutler is elected into government, it was because he was an extreme hardliner and there were mass anti-immigration riots going on throughout England.

Quote:
the violence, fueled by online misinformation, has spread across multiple cities,

Yeah, seems like social media makes this stuff really easy. I don't know much about the stabbing but in arson cases, it's important to know what started the fire:

July 29, mass stabbing at a dance studio, targetting children. 3 are killed, 10 others (8 children) are injured, one of them really badly. A 17 year olf British citizen born to parents from Rwanda was arrested. This kid was BORN in Wales (that's important). It's not a terrorist-linked plot or anything. Just a solo act. The kid is autistic which isn't going to do great things for autism.

The misinformation, if not obvious, is being spread by right-wing accounts (FAR-right, i should specify). Saying that he isn't british-born, false stuff about his religion and migration status too. Mosques were the first target of attacks and riots. Most recently, houses where asylum seekers are living :(
---

In happier news, Bangledesh threw out their dictator. I'm told by my bengali friends that it's basically xmas in Bangledesh right now. Note that this JUST happened and already the talk is anti-India, they're worried that India will support a pro-india government (....well of course they would, also this means stability in the region, which I think should be seen as a good thing).

Yeah, it's a fair question and a very, very boring answer.

In the US, high-fat milk is called WHOLE MILK (this is a nightmare for me at Starbucks cuz I order "whole milk" lattes and with my accent/mumbling, they often hear "oat milk" and that costs extra and isn't as good. Sometimes I don't realize it until the first sip. But oat milk is the best of the non-dairy milks, so it's not all that bad.

Anyway, that's neither here nor there. In CANADA, high-fat milk (3.25% milk fat, as opposed to the usual 2%), is called HOMOGENIZED milk, which Canadians shorten to "homo milk". My whole life and childhood, that's always what it's been called up here. Luckily, I've never called it that south of the border, cuz I imagine it might read awkward in today's much more sensitive environment. I just order "whole milk" down there.

actually, come to think of it, when i order in french up here, I could be calling it "lait homogenizer" but i never do, i just say, "lait entier" which is french for whole milk, and they always know what I mean
