Upcoming movies:

If anyone sees DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE, let me know how it is, k? I've never seen such a divergence before between Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes. Metacritic's critics say it's a SKIP, and Rottentomatoes' critics say it's a MUST SEE. There's a HUGE gap between those two ratings too. One thing both have in common, at least, is that the user reviews pretty much universally acclaim the movie (but I hate user reviews cuz they're heavily influenced by fanbois). Right now, I'm planning on skipping it and I doubt I'm missing anything.

Next week, HAROLD AND THE PURPLE CRAYON opens, and I'm pretty intrigued. I think it's from Argentina but I'm not sure.

Waiting for ALIEN ROMULUS more than anything else tho...

anyone watch TIME BANDITS when they were a kid? I loved that movie and there's a whole tv show on Apple TV on it now which sounds like it's good. Lisa Kudrow back bay-beeee

Emily made me watch the first 3-4 episodes of YOUNG SHELDON cuz she really likes it. I absolutely hate Big Bang Theory and is one of very few programs that I find completely unwatchable, so i was ready to hate Young Sheldon but I think I actually like it. Pretty cute, charming and funny.

Time Bandits freaked me out as a child. (lol, not joking BB)

The scene with the microwave at the end -> nightmares.

Brutal. The other one that messed with me bad is almost too stupid to mention -> Cat People.

It came out when I was really young, and I think I saw parts of it before I was 8 (possibly before I was 6). It's funny what sticks with you as a child.

I rewatched Dark Crystal last night and I remember that when the little captured gnome is subjected to the Dark Crystal and drained of its life essence, which the emperor then happily drinks... yup, that freaked me out pretty good too

The Raft really did the most damage though, in Creepshow 2, that really really scared me and stayed with me for months. I also saw Aliens way too young and Ferro's death in the dropship ruined my summer lol

Trump is still currently favoured to win at -175 and Kamala is at +137. Don’t ask me what those numbers even mean cuz I don’t do sports betting at all

So before Biden dropped out, Kamala was only 2% likely to win the presidency. If any of us could have predicted this turn of events, there would have been some serious money to be made by betting on her to win the whole smash

Dammit lol

In sports betting the - is the favored to win and the + is the underdog. A +200 market has an implied probability of 33.3%. Conversely, a -200 market would have an implied probability of 67.7%. (That's because +200 actually represents you winning $300, but $100 of that was your original bet)

The - # is how much you have to bet to win $100. The + # is how much you would win if you bet $100.

I think they are at about 59%Trump to 41%Kamala +/- 2%

Thank you sixty! Appreciate the decoding

I watched the first half of Bone Tomahawk and will finish it later. I’m scared to death of the last half

I've heard Bone Tomahawk is a really good horror/western but haven't seen it yet

I thought it was ok but not amazing. Most interesting thing about it imo was that it’s a horror western, which isn’t a common setting for horror flicks

Also, IIRC it plays like a straight western for most of the film and really just delves into horror at the end. But honestly I can’t really remember much about the first part of the film, just the end lol

Yeah it has parallels to Alien in terms of structure/reveal

Before Alien, I don’t know if sci-fi/horror was a thing. So the first half (at least) of the movie is pure sci-fi with zero horror elements, and when the violence/horror does hit (dinner scene), it goes from 0 to 1,000 out of nowhere. Like not just a LITTLE violence, but basically the most violent horrific scene audiences have ever seen in their lives. Audiences were vomiting and passing out

In the same way, the first 3/4 of Bone Tomahawk is pure western with zero horror elements and then when it hits… omg… that’s gotta be the 3rd most violent horrific kill ever put on screen.

Incredibly beautiful line at the end too “say goodbye to my wife, I’ll say hello to yours”

Richard Jenkins has insane range and I found him great in this. Gotta give it up to Kurt Russell too. He’s playing a sheriff in a WESTERN and yet not for one second was there a trace of Wyatt Earp in his performance. Incredible actor to pull that off

I liked it a lot.

I guess I was in the mood for horror and decided to rewatch Hostel after, forgot how hot the girls were in that. It’s almost a good movie, so close.

Sorry DJ, but Trump just destroyed your theory that it is the left wings fault for escalating violence because they keep saying "Trump is a threat to democracy." I slightly agreed with you that kind of rhetoric is irresponsible but them Trump goes and says **** like this.

Trump said: "Christians, get out and vote, just this time. You won't have to do it anymore. Four more years, you know what, it will be fixed, it will be fine, you won't have to vote anymore, my beautiful Christians."

That's a direct quote from several sources like AP and Reuters so it does appear, on a surface level analysis of that comment; that he honestly is a threat to democracy.

Aim better next time

He’s absolutely a threat to democracy. I think it’s irresponsible not to say it or realize it

I'm not sure I was saying anything other than it could lead to violence. It's hard to say someone is an existential threat to democracy, and also say it's a bad thing when someone takes pot shots at that person. If the first is true, then can you really say that the latter is bad? Is it pure hypocrisy?

The new Trump quote is terrible, but I'm sure the idiot just means, "I don't care if you never vote again, so long as you vote for me this last time." I'm just translating pure Narcissist into normal English.

Yeah, fine, BB... but we also need to figure out how to reduce the likelihood that these individuals get targeted. I'ver never, in my life, seen the level of vitriol we currently have in US politics. I think it's mostly Trump's fault, and I don't think my opinion will change on that subject. But, the Democrats are absolutely complicit in the problems we currently face. The Democrats want it both ways, and they can't have it both ways. You cannot denounce the attempt to assassinate a man you have painted as an existential threat to America. You simply can't. He's either dangerous, a future dictator, and someone who will forever change the country for the worse, OR he's not. If it's the former, don't denounce attempts on his life, you asked for them with your political positions, even if you never said it out loud.

Trump gets painted with that brush as well every single time he's accused of making dog whistles for the far right arm of the Republican Party. And he paints himself with that brush every single time he makes veiled or overt threats to people, his political opponents, etc.

__________

"He's an existential threat, BUT we're going to beat him at the polls..." sounds completely stupid, because it IS completely stupid. BUT, that is exactly the message from the Biden campaign, and the Democrats in general. This is yet another reason why I want Biden the **** out of this election, immediately.

Here's my actual quote from before. I still stand by it. There's nuance there that I think should make my position fairly clear: if you say threat, then don't be surprised when people take you seriously, and do something about it. And it becomes hard, when you have been calling someone a threat to then denounce actions by people who might be trying to eliminate that threat.

I agreed with you when you made that statement; I don't think I misunderstood you. I was not certain that he was a Threat to Democracy, and I agree that rhetoric could lead to violence. Without certainty I have to denounce the violence.

After that statement by him I am definitely leaning the other way now. If my opinion has changed then my stance in violence against him must as well. At this point he'll get no more sympathy from me.

I don't think we can afford to give him the benefit of the doubt (your Narcissistic take) and have to take the statement at face value. We can't afford you to be wrong and he gets a chance to destroy democracy.

Let's just say, there are things I will not commit to words on this site, and leave it there.

In other news, my family is prepared to leave the US, and is seriously considering doing so if the need presents itself.

Theres a big leap between the phrase and the implication of a violent response DJ.

Democracy problems are better answered through more Democracy not less.
