Hey, do you think the Trump shooter knew for a certainty that he'd be killed? I don't think so since he had explosives in his car. He studied the JFK assassination and neither in that situation nor in Reagan's attempt did the shooter die. But with today's technology advancement in security/arms, there's just no way a shooter isn't killed very quickly.

So i'm wondering if this will prove to be a disincentive for future assassination attempts. Oswald and Hinckley both got notoriety and fame (Oswald didn't live long to enjoy it, but everyone in North America knows who he is), but now you are basically guaranteed to die.

In the same way that pretty much all somali pirates who attempt to hijack/capture an American vessel end up getting killed, they target other vessels nowadays.

No I don't think his death will be a disincentive for future assassination attempts. I think you get a much bigger effect if you capture them, give them a trial, imprison them for life, or even execute them. But at the end of the day, rational responses are poor at stopping irrational behaviors, or at least that seems to me to be the case.

As for your question about whether he knew or did not know, I'm not sure. It's hard to imagine what someone like him would be thinking about. I can't really empathize with crazy.

TBH i think if anything the whole kerfuffle kinda shattered my view of the whole secret service protection detail thing.

Like, i'm no expert or anything but you see all those crazy levels of protection that the presidents motorcades have (2 identical cards, both built like tanks, not to mention the billion police and secret service vehicles following him around. Then you see the level of security at every event they attend, the snipers, undercover agents everywhere, you read stories about the bodyguards staking the place out months before they even attend the place of a speech or whatever


And then some random dude gets within like 100m with a rifle and only through sheer luck does Trump live to talk about it

The head coach of the women's soccer team has withdrawn from coaching tomorrow's Canada v New Zealand match and 2 other staff members were sent home to Canada. The arrested member was caught spying on New Zealands training, twice. The coach, out of respect for the integrity of the game, and in good sportsmanship, withdrew from coaching their match up but will resume coaching duties after the New Zealand match.

The cheating scandals begin. I was surprised to see Team Canada was the first.

As Americans this is a good lesson for us and a wakeup call.
