I hadn't heard the argument 8 years ago. I started hearing it as an argument against Michelle first, a few months ago. And I disagree; the argument, idea, (however you want to frame it) is rooted in sexism. As if law school educated women don't have their own tracks of thought and ideas on where the country should be headed that they'd allow themselves to be figure heads for their husband's 3rd term.

Yeah it’s entirely dismissive of women being their own person, with freedom over their own destinies and such.

Anyway, back to Harris. So she already has more than 2,500 delegates that really cements the nomination If they don’t change their mind. Only 54 delegates are undecided and there are no other challengers. I wasn’t expecting it to be that decisive and I’m happy for Harris as that really helps her chances

Another thing I didn’t expect, BLACK LIVES MATTER is challenging the democrats fast move of nominating Harris. They say that it should be changed so that public participation can come into play instead of just the delegates. They say that black voters must be heard

… do black people not like Harris or vice versa?

Bs. If they were qualified, they’d have run first (and then I’d be against allowing the husband to run). End of story for me.

Kamala isn’t riding her husband’s coattails.

Roadhouse (2024): **** excellent movie. Great action scenes. Very realistic fighting, coming from someone who's job it was to watch boxing and mma. Extremely well edited. And the best part of all, the one liners are very funny. It is like Demolition Man where the action and comedy are top notch. 1/1

Republican leaders urge colleagues to steer clear of racist and sexist attacks on Harris the fact that they have to be told NOT to do that is all kinds of sad and messed up

EDIT: So the DNC is moving ahead with a virtual roll call on the 7th. The DNC will use an electronic voting system for delegates to vote for candidates for the nomination who meets three criteria — file formal declaration of candidacy with the committee, meet the party and legal qualifications to be president, and gather a minimum of at least 300 delegates with no more than 50 delegates from one state.

I'm guessing they are doing it this way to avoid any drama at the actual convention.

That's one way to look at it. Another is that we are slowly moving towards discourse that is more civilized and that needs to be encouraged on a daily basis by both sides.

It’s a shame Michelle isn’t running, yet, but she could still join the Dem ticket as VP. In fact, only a sexist person would think that would be a bad idea. We need more dynasties… the men aren’t doing enough, or aren’t legally capable of being recycled enough as candidates.

I like my call/prediction that it'll be this Jose Shapiro fella. Would be insane if they put two women on the ticket, sort of defeats the entire point of the VP choice (to fill in the gaps not addressed by the Prez nominee). That Shapiro guy does it nicely

I completely disagree, although I agree that it is unlikely. I don’t see any reason we couldn’t have an all women ticket, other than I can’t think of a woman who balances Harris out politically. They are mostly to the left of her, and she’s already seen as too far left (seen, doesn’t mean she’s seen correctly, I think she’s pretty centrist). But if we wanted an example, in the right spirit, Liz Cheney would do the trick. And I’d bet that combination has serious legs in a national race.

Call it the anti-Trump ticket, but it will never happen, even though it would be an interesting moment, historically, in the event that it did. That would be the ultimate culmination of the concept that Trump is an existential threat that must be stopped at all costs. And frankly, it also makes sense, because it would be representatives of the old guard, directly combating the cancerous influence of a new, disruptive and harmful political movement.

So, due to being bored I did a little dive into presidential history and turns out before the Bushes, we only had John Quincy Adams and his father John Adams. Separated by three other presidents and then as far as my information can find the Roosevelt cousins Theodore and Franklin. Outside of the Bushes, Adams and Roosevelts there hasn't been family connection between presidents.

I'm seeing Mark Kelly get tossed around as a strong choice for her VP.

Really bold idea that I would get behind for sure.

Realistically, even though Liz is a never-trumper, she's an ardent conservative so I don't see her getting on board with any Democratic agenda (the way that Goldwater did near the end. Non partisan civil servants like that are unicorns, even decades ago, they were unicorns).

Maybe I'm wrong on Shapiro cuz he's not gonna help at all with Michigan and, to Cucho's point, pro-palestinian voters won't go near him cuz of his stance.

I'm thinking to try and GET at what Liz Cheney would accomplish, we need coalition builders. The two strongest are Mark kelly and Andy Beshear.

Obviously Buttigieg is an amazing communicator and would be great but there's just no way. It's asking America to make too large a leap, in my opinion, with that ticket.

Stupidest article I've ever read. Presidencies last 4-8 years. (Know how quickly you can run thru 44 years when you're measuring it in 8 year incriments? You're only counting 4 people and 2 of them account for 20 years of that) What do Clinton and Biden have to do with the Bush dynasty? Seems like they're grasping at straws to try and make a point.

Like OMG Gasp, no Clinton's or Bidens on the ticket! I'm fully surprised they didn't try and throw Obama in there via connection to Biden

Othen than the Bushes, we really only have the Kennedys as a real American political Dynasty.

It's a real shame no one considered Eleanor Roosevelt for President.

@BB you underestimate the US, you always do.

@sixty all we'd need to do to change all that is to start running wives.
