Did she ever formerly announce or did Biden do it for her?

She went to high school up here in Montreal btw.

I’m not sure what you mean by formerly, but yes she has announced.

they usually do a big announcement / press conference (remember Trump's escalator announcement?) when they decide to run for President. I'm guessing Biden had to drop out first, and in the same speech endorse Harris, and then Harris at some point says how she's decided to run

I don’t know if that’s going to happen that way this time. She’s been quoted as saying she will earn and win the nomination. That’s probably as formal as it will get this time. That statement is certainly a declaration..

If Biden resigns and she gets sworn in, that would increase the chances of her winning cuz people would see her in the job and the de facto president, da?

Nyet, imo. I don’t think there’s enough time for that to be impactful.

I do think it should happen anyway.

You think Biden should just resign?

I think DJ has articulated that several times, yeah. He feels that if he is unable to run again, he should also step down cuz being the President is a very tough job, requiring sharp mental alertness at all times. So if he feels his mental capacity is no longer there, he should step down.

That's what Republicans are currently saying as well

---

i have no opinion on it cuz I'd like to think the president's doctor is supposed to assess this stuff, but I don't know how independent that process is.

I do like the idea of Harris grabbing the seat ahead of the election because I think it helps her chances greatly when people see her in the role already and can assess her as a stateswoman

I think thats an exageration, he could run the country for a couple more months not whole new period.

Thats just partisan BS, I mean if the alternative was not Trump I would not care one bit.

EDIT: maybe someone could miss a shoot or something and then Kamala holds the ship.

Normally I would also chalk it up to partisan BS, but watching moments of that debate, I honestly thought to myself « is he ok? »

My stepdad had real bad dementia and the early innings were the scariest cuz he was still driving cars and piloting boats and he’d do things that made no sense

Running the country is much more stressful and difficult that driving cars and piloting boats

I just don’t know what kind of assessment takes place, and how much faith we can have in its independence

Remember when Trump’s doctor assessed him and made the most insane conclusions you’ve ever seen in your life? Talk about BS, I mean I just had zero faith in the validity of this assessment:

Quote:
"If elected, Mr. Trump, I can state unequivocally, will be the healthiest individual ever elected to the presidency," Dr. Harold Bornstein, a gastroenterologist from Lenox Hospital in New York, wrote at the time.

The letter said that a recent medical exam showed "only positive results" for the then-candidate and that "his physical strength and stamina are extraordinary
."

The debate called into question his ability to run it now. That’s not to say it’s absolutely necessary for him to step down, but I wonder about his mental acuity, and if I’m wondering, so are a lot of people -> including people in the governments of America’s foes. And that last bit is potentially dangerous.

I don’t know if that’s true, it may be for Russia, but even there I doubt it.

If Biden is as diminished as he appears, this may be a huge opportunity for them, and it’s fleeting.

It's a mixed bag with China. China would be able to get away with anti-Taiwan actions under a Trump presidency. But Trump would also put major tariffs on Chinese goods which would really hurt China's growth (already having trouble over there)

I'm thinking of things that are a bit more drastic than simple anti-Taiwan actions might imply. I'm talking about using the opportunity to, for example, invade the country.

I'm thinking of those things too. Russia going full scorched earth with Ukraine to end that quicker, China just grabbing Taiwan through force, etc. If Trump puts another oil baron as secretary of state, diplomatic relations and solutions are out the window

Secret service director just resigned. It’s really nuts it took so long. Wish Biden had fired her cuz it would have been a really good look. You almost never see such a fireable offence in that job.

Hey I heard that no one actually died. Is that true? Earlier reports had one death in the crowd and of course the shooter himself . Did anyone in the crowd die?

Pro’s: almost everything

Con’s:

- I don’t think women will show up for her.
Hilary had way more experience and was probably the most qualified presidential candidate in modern history but still couldn’t get it done. That being said, I don’t think Kamala is as disliked as Hilary was. Kamala is much more fierce which is a very good counter to Trump and will be seen as presidential I think

I really hate to say it, but I don’t feel like the US is ready for a woman as president. I don’t think they will vote for her in big numbers.

Vegas has her as a 7:4 dog against trump :(

I’ve always liked her. She commands respect. I would happily vote for her even if the republicans had a serious, experienced candidate

Yes, one person died at the event, two more were critically wounded.

Yes, she should have been fired, but resigning is also fine, IMO.

So Kamala, pros and cons?

The US voting public did not choose her, and would probably not have chosen her. That's a pretty big con, but if she wins, I suppose who cares?

@BB, I think everything you just said is wrong - other than the betting odds.

There's no reason women wouldn't show up for her, beyond reasons they wouldn't show up in general, or for Democrats in particular.

Hilary wasn't just disliked, she also simply shouldn't have been allowed to run for president at all (I'm talking legally here). We don't have a law against it, but it's absolutely skirting the law, and that hurt her chances A LOT - because people aren't stupid. Kamala doesn't have that problem -> not a former First Lady who'd already been in the White House for 8 years.

edit: Maybe I'm missing your point, BB... are you saying women won't vote for her? Which, IMO, is wrong. OR are you instead saying women won't specifically come out in support of her candidacy, and thereby bump her numbers? Because that might be true, I don't see her galvanizing the female vote.

That is literally the first time I’ve ever heard it suggested that Hilary shouldn’t be allowed to run cuz her husband was a two term president

But thats not a con about her in specific.. If I get this right, no one other than the representatives will be voting...

I heard she has close ties with Israel, whats her stance on the genocide going on Palestine?
