The idea of the game is that you interact with other players to build on what you know about the game.

Ideally you shouldn't have anything "verifiable" to sway your decision (like a player sharing with you that the mod said something particular about the game that the player is now sharing with you).

Thus any information obtained in such a way is strictly prohibited so as to maintain the -- uh ... Mystery? -- of the game. Otherwise, it'd be no fun if you knew right off the bat that you could trust what someone was telling you because they showed you a screenshot of mod communication/player communication to help influence what you do (vs fleshing out whether you trust them by approaching other players yourself and the such).

It's going to be brutally messy if the past games of this series is any indication.

This game, Epistemology Mafia, isn't exactly like other mafia games. The only information you'll have is from your role, and that's assuming your role even gives you enough information to work with.

Due to a lack of information at the start, you are allowed to communicate with other players secretly, originally via private messages, to obtain/share information as you see fit.

The meta data is just meant to define information gained in a way that would pollute the integrity of the game in a sense.


This being the latest iteration of the series just has a way of trying to build upon what we've seen before. OOT (out of thread) communication is certainly allowed (based on the rules as this is different). You just don't want to be in a situation where you're using hard verified sources (the mod, screenshots) to circumvent potential doubt when interacting with other players. Discord is a tricky one though if you get invited to a server with a history and you can see everything said. That's for JD to figure out.

This is basically a survivor team game, not mafia, fyi

KoD is pretty spot on with the meta info. The rule is there essentially to protect the seed of doubt so the only thing it stops you using are things that are hard verification like screen shots, bcc's where all parties to a conversation aren't known to everybody, and I'm going to include discord history (for convenience on me monitoring I'm going to just say there's no adding a person to an already existing discord conversation allowed). You are allowed to use information you gathered this way you just aren't allowed to verify it essentially.

There will be a little time before things really get started. I'll have to essentially double the design file and then the first day phase is a no kill phase (so essentially just confirming/asking questions). So if they can't be too active right away it shouldn't be a big deal.

If everyone involved in a discord conversation agrees to invite someone new (and all participants are alive), would that be allowed? Not that I'm likely to run a lot of discord conversations myself, I just like to iron out technicalities.
