Well, Storybook Brawl is RIP.

On behalf of everyone on the SBB team, we'd like to thank you for your support. We’ve explored different options, and unfortunately there is no path forward. We’ll be shutting down the servers on May 1st - please enjoy SBB until then, and thanks for all the memories ❤️

I might need a new card game to play now. Suggestions?

There's this new one making the rounds called MTG, could give that a try?

MTG is too random for me unfortunately. I prefer a game where the better player wins more than 60% of the time. (And a game doesn't take more than 90 minutes to finish, ala Twilight Struggle.)

The secret is to find a LGS that only kids go to. Start drafting with them and destroy them week after week until they completely lose the spirit to play the game anymore

I got some friends who play SBB suggesting Wingspan - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wingspan_(video_game). Anyone tried that?

Otherwise I imagine I will try Teamfight Tactics, because what else am I going to play /shrug.

Since you like card games, have you tried a tabletop simulator? There are card games like Red Dragon Inn that are a lot of fun but dont have digital counterparts. RDI is a social game though. Not competitive and no deck building elements, it's just one example of many card games you can find on a tabletop simulator

I've never dabbled in them though, only heard of them. I looked into them specifically for RDI, but decided not to get involved

Don't you need to have a bunch of friends to play with before tabletop simulators are useful? I don't have a bunch of friends, I generally rely on ladder.

It’s a good question. I assume they have lobbies or FB groups where you can find people wanting to play.

Well yeah I got to know this guy Barney on the internet and he still hasn't bought Twilight Struggle, what are the odds of finding people to play with?

That's what you get for trusting in a white guy named Black Barney

A SBB fan created a new game to take over the mantle, Fairytale Fables: https://fairytalefables.com/. After procrastinating for a long time I'm giving it a go. Still don't understand the basic comps, but many of the mechanics are taken from SBB, so it's immediately familiar. Preliminarily, it looks like the dev made improvements as well (such as hero attack which makes not hitting in the early rounds a lot less punishing). One "downside", if you can call it that, is that the game became more complex since the dev also added more comps. There're no guides to it yet annoyingly - there were no guides to SBB either aside from the ones I wrote - so the learning curve is significant.

If anyone decides to play FTF, lmk.
