Very cool concept, and well-phrased. And interestingly, it strangely fits with a story I wrote nearly a decade ago (which is a simultaneously prideful and depressing thought...) way back on the mothership, if so we can still call it. I have, after all, been on NGA much longer than I was on the Flavor boards back there.

Anyway, the story it reminds me of is "Cromat Comes," which is a story I've always enjoyed having written.

I was cleaning out a drawer of mine today, and I came across a small scrap of paper that had this written on it:

That's neat. And very confusing for the nonwalkers. Could different personalities have their own sparks, or does the person have the spark and some identities can't access it?

I would imagine that the non-walker alters just didn't know they could do it or are actively, psychologically blocked from doing so. To suggest that the alters didn't have a spark at all, I think, would imply the presence of multiple souls.

I feel like demons would be down with that. At least the tricksy ones. Not as much the brute force feast-on-your-fear blokes. But then in time people would just associate bat wings and horns with goodness and associate beautiful winged people are wicked.

Yeah, definitely. It's funny to me thinking of a massive and evil demon like Griselbrand or Rakdos forced to look like a cutesy cartoon angel.

The locals would, to be sure. But what about planeswalkers arriving for the first time? That, as they say, is a horse of a different color (at least that's what they say in The Wizard of Oz. I'm not sure I've ever actually heard someone say that in real life...).

Sadly, it's apparent that the number of stories I have left in me for our little further of the multiverse is going to continue to erode because the creators of the official Canon are garbage tier stewards of their lore.

I will have a few in me, but time, energy, and interest dictate I be prudent.

But I have this one idea that I want to be known I had even though I'm not going to write it.

Alessa, in the midst of her depression spiral, washes up to try to mindlessly kill time, only to put together that time is dying too quickly and there are large gaps in her memory.
Turns out, she wandered into a place where the scent transitions and chapter skips are actually built into the narrative because of an Eon Hub eating up space time

Yet on the morn we wake to find / that mem'ry left so far behind.

You know what I've never seen in any cartoon? A theoretically infinite number of things. One that surprises me though- an oil salesman who is a snake. Think about it.

Listened to excerpts from a documentary on people who work as human test subjects for pharmaceutical studies. If they report severe side effects, they're kicked out of the study and only collect a portion of their fee. People who do this for a living know to under-report the side effects. How has this not been used in the first act of a horror movie? That's a great way to set up the pharma-zombie apocalypse.


Unrelatedly- well relatedly if you want it to be- what happens to Disney World after the apocalypse? Theme parks aren't military targets like industrial centers are. And Disney's got a whole lot of electricians, engineers, communication specialists and even the world's greatest pyrotechnics experts on staff. They're set up to be a serious player in a maybe not-as-serious apocalypse scenario.

Not magic related (because what is these days?) But I did have an idea.

A setting with superheroes. Their power source is lost souls, anybody they failed to save is absorbed to make them stronger and more able to save others in the future.

Huh.

That is a very interesting idea. I feel like that would lead to some pretty serious guilt complexes for some of them, which could be interesting to explore. There would likely also be at least one of them that would turn evil, failing to save people on purpose to become more powerful.

Yeah, I like it.
