It's just, like, yay another 5-drop. In our top-curve-heavy deck. I think you can look at this as say, awesome, Sphinx is an amazing card, it'll help control our draws, etc., etc. But I'm looking at our deck and seeing cards we need for it, actually NEED, because we've been drafting terribly, and we don't need another 5-drop, that's for damn sure. So, do we take an awesome 5-drop we don't need, or do we take something we do need? I think, as crappy as it feels, I'm going to pick the ordeal of nylea here. Whatever's happening in this draft, we're not only get cut in color, but we're getting cut specifically in low-curve creatures. The ordeal will make our smaller threats better and give us a chance to get the mana to actually cast the fat saturating our deck.
I don't think this is an easy pick, and I expect people to be super incredulous about this aside. But seriously people, in the beginning of pack 3, if you're not drafting for your deck and instead drafting based solely on card evaluation, you're probably finding yourself going more 2-1 than 3-0 in pods. Just sayin'.
If your problem is you have an incredibly top heavy curve, the solution is not ordeals, the two just don't mix. If 5 is too much for you, than go to 4 and grab the Chimera (it even has lifegain to help stabilize) or grab the actual curve lowerer Scorpion
However, I think Sphinx is powerful enough that you grab it here. You still have most of Pack 3 to grab mediocre curve fillers, this deck still needs power.
