Orida glanced at Kyudz. "Wait. Do your **** thing, Q."

"Thing?" Kyudz tilted her head. "Please specify."

The kithkin gestured demonstratively. "The zappy **** thing, girl, come on!"

The goblin beamed. "Convergent evolution - of course!"

"Yeah, ****, whatever. Now keep it up for a **** moment..."

That's awesome. I really love the style as a polaroid here. Orida looks suitably rad, and I like the genuine smile on the face of Kyudz.

Part of me now wants to write a story where Kyudz and Denner exchange a series of magical technobabble while everyone around them just sort of roll their eyes.

Thanks for posting! I really love seeing these.

Oh, I didn't imagine Xeria to be that strict as a teacher. Although, to be fair, it would be very inappropriate for her to let students to get up and personal in regards to her chest, so I can't blame her.

Speaking of innuendo, yeah I miss Tryst too :D and again I wonder if Maral's completely oblivious to the... aim of her creations, too awkward to chew Tryst out for it or is just completely unfazed.

Returning to the chest-ahem, topic at hand, I particularly liked the line about Daneera's dog and the blatant skill disparity within classes that make so many wondrous magical abilities so... mundane, in a way :V Thank you for sharing!

Yeah, she came out a bit more harsh than I had originally intended. The jokes just sort of needed it as I went along, and so I went with it. Maybe she's having a bad day or something. Crazily, the chest joke didn't even occur to me until the very end. I put the chest in there at the beginning because I needed somewhere for Antine to get trapped again, and a wooden chest in woodshop seemed like something that would be there. Then when I put in the "but" joke in earlier, so when I got to the finish, I figured it would be the perfect cap to the piece.

It was, as you can imagine, a fun story to write.

I think that could go a few different directions with Maral, considering her canon issues. I'm not really sure which one I would go with. I guess we need Barinellos to write an HS Maral piece!

Returning to the chest-ahem, topic at hand, I particularly liked the line about Daneera's dog and the blatant skill disparity within classes that make so many wondrous magical abilities so... mundane, in a way :V

I've been wanting to get Oleetaka into a story for a while now. I feel like he and Daneera would get along well. And his ability to shape wood, even living wood, into whatever he wants, would naturally make him a prodigy in woodshop. I also sort of liked the thought that Daneera wouldn't be very good at it, just because the way I write her, she usually good at most things she does, and I find it kind of endearing that she tries and just isn't very good at it, at least not yet.

Also, "Awl a Board" is just a fun, stupid pun that is not even related to anything. I love it.

Thank you for sharing!

And thank you for reading and commenting! I appreciate it!

I was just looking over the two Valentine's Day stories I've written for this thread. According to this site, they were posted FOUR and THREE years ago respectively. That is impossible. IMPOSSIBLE!

Seriously, the dilation of the perception of time is real, and is very, very weird...

Well, that was three years ago. But when I cam back to this thread a few days ago I was surprised to realize that I still remembered exactly what I had intended to write back then. So I wrote it now, instead:

after debate club

This is the first thing I've written for fun in a long time. It feels good to get back into it, even if it's something short like this.

Nice tidy scene, adding detail to Denner's plotline and connecting organically rather distant social circles :)

Here's a new story for the M:EM High School. Many thanks to Huey Nomure for talking through some of this with me, and even for providing a few of the lines that I shamelessly stole...

Anyway, enjoy!

Thanks for writing and for posting! I enjoyed the story and the added bits, and I'm glad the Danger Room idea spoke to you.

Thank you for the great idea and your kind reply! I inevitably tend to skew darker when fighting is brought on the table, so I'm glad I was able to get gritty without completely losing the levity of the setting.

Speaking of which...

After reading and talking about this Alessa piece, I had an idea for some kind of follow-up... but I wasn't confident enough to write for Alessa on my own. So I asked Barinellos for some pointers, and this is the result:

together in the dark

So, obviously, I approve of the story.
Considering the parallels with Gifts, I'm predisposed towards the framing of this in the first place.

It does still make me wonder more about the altered circumstances involved with many of the high school chargers, and I've never really wanted to nail down more of Alessa's backstory myself.
