Rip, I was leading the lobby and in prime position to finish first when I was disconnected and couldn't reconnect. My ghost is finishing off people though lol. When I disconnected there were 7 players left, and yet I'm at least top 3. I guess that's a consolation, although it does make me sad over what should have been :|

3rd (without the dc, could've been 1st), 3rd, 4th, 3rd, 1st, 8th. Last round was very unfortunate, one opponent hit an upgraded Pumpking by level 4 - rthanks Gwen / Mixawizzle / TLK - and with the last attack of the game it popped. I took 23 damage and died shortly after.

Still made day 2 though! That was my target and I made it, so I'm happy.

Day 2 is at 2am Monday morning my time, so I cannot play. Oh well.

By the way sixty the day 1 scores are here, https://sbb-tournaments.netlify.app/eve ... fier/day1/, to give an example of how much randomness affects the results. Most of the highly-ranked players I recognize all made it to day 2, although a few missed (OceanMud, trynet, lulnenko) and others (Jebas, karlim) barely scraped in. Zvi Mowshowitz didn't make it, but he was playing in my opinion rather poorly (he was streaming and simultaneously attempting three different strategies at the same time, leading to a disjointed comp) so it's kind of deserved.

I wonder what the distribution is like in Magic. On average, how many old platinum-level pros fail to make Day 2 of a GP or PT?

Top 100 on the ladder, boy have I gotten good at this game. In fact based on ladder ranking I think I'm better at Storybook Brawl than I ever was at MtG or Hearthstone, although not Gwent (I was top 100 of that game too).

Aside: apparently top players win 65% of games at GP day 1 level. They have 3 byes though, and the day 2 cutoff is 7-2. A sizable fraction of them (~1/3) fail to make day 2. The 3 byes help a lot. Without them, the probability of making day 2 is only about 30%.

Apparently SBB just got acquired by FTX (some kind of cryptocurrency company I think). https://news.storybookbrawl.com/article ... ouncement/ People are mad with many people saying they are quitting. However, they don't explain why. Does anyone know why being acquired by a cryptocurrency firm is bad for a game?

Good luck man. Sounds to me like a story of rich guy buying a shiney new toy and the players are (rightfully) scared hes going to get involved and **** up everything that they love about the game.

Outside of implications for the actual game itself, people are morally opposed to cryptocurrencies and NFTs, as well as implementing blockchain-based stuff in games. FTX is a super rich cryptocurrency exchange that is feeding crypto hype by doing a lot of promotions through hiring celebrities, etc. People argue that 1. it's bad for the environment and 2. cryptos and NFTs are ultimately scams for people who already have money to make money and will leave those who don't holding the bag.

A few months on, FTX seems to have had no impact aside from several recognizable names on the official Discord quitting.

More data on conversion rates for top players in Storybook Brawl: https://sbb-tournaments.netlify.app/eve ... thly/day1/ The names with stars next to them are members of the pro club (sorted bronze/silver/gold), and the cutoff point is 45 points. Several pro players missed. The biggest is easily Jebas, who won the Spring Championship. But it does look like it's more common to convert than to miss, and the top of the leaderboard is filled with players I recognize from scrims.

This patch also feels very high-rolly. I can't explain why, but it feels like I see significantly more unbeatable boards than usual.

I'll probably continue playing this game because a skill advantage is I think quite noticeable, plus it's nice to talk to all these MTG pros I've read a lot. People like BBD, Ondrej Strasky, Javier Dominguez, etc, all play.

Well, these people have been proven objectively correct.

Looks like FTX may go bankrupt. They have, at least, a $6 Billion deficit that they have no way out of. That represents a backlog of withdrawal requests they haven't (can't?) fulfill as well as other costs, taxes, and fees.

Shocking

Someone also mentioned this in the Limited Resources subreddit, since the podcast has been sponsored by it and one of the hosts works on Storybrook Brawl.

Yeah, you don't say. The World Championships for SBB have been cancelled pending news, and so have the monthly tournaments. The game is still playable, but we're all unsure what will happen.

It's not a big deal to me though regardless of what happens - I already stopped playing the tournaments anyway, and I lost some interest in the game as a result. The biggest immediate impact is that I won't write any more articles for sbbhub.com, but then it's not like I've written any articles for over a month, so yeah. I still write articles, but for other projects. If the SBB servers are discontinued, I'd probably move on to another game (Twilight Struggle? I've been following TS streams quite a lot, although there are only a few players on Twitch).

Yes! Twilight Struggle! I love that game and would love to hear your experiences with it

I helped kickstart the digital version but it didn't come to xbox and they gave me my money back :(

k, cool. If you write articles on TS, link them here and I'll read them for sure. Thanks!

Hopefully it'll go on sale. Civilization on xbox went on big time sale yesterday and I was tempted but I'll hold off.

FYI, if you're talking about Civilization 6, consoles aren't getting the newest DLC coming out next, probably due to issues with Aspyr.

Problem with writing TS articles is that the game is "solved". There are no updates. Therefore what was valid five years ago is likely still valid today. I doubt I'll write much if anything about TS.

Besides, there's already a whole load of TS articles at https://twilightstrategy.com/. Have you seen them? Some of it has been criticized (since apparently games are played with a US handicap these days, plus the space race has gotten a lot more valuable), but much of it still holds up well.
