I wonder what's the point of making another Hearthstone clone. There are plenty of them around already. Plus if they're using Magic characters then there's literally Magic (both MTGO and Magic Arena) to play. Seems to me if they're going to make a new game, they should try some other genre, like a Magic RPG or something. I actually wouldn't mind a Magic RPG. Although it's from so long ago, Shandalar was fun.

It’s crazy how much the ascetic of this game has changed over time. I’ve never really seen it as a childish game, even though it probably is. This looks like something I’d tell my seven year old niece to try.

Edit: Ah, bastards. Windows 10. I still love and have no reason to switch from Windows 7. I'm like that. I ran XP Pro until like 6 years ago. I ain't changing for this game for sure.

I was already not interested with the first one. I'm just not their target demographic at all, and I can tell from their marketing materials.

Also, as a total aside, I hate game promo videos that show no gameplay. It's a nonsensical pet peeve, but I can't help it.

Yeah I hate cut scenes being used for video game commercials too but Dead Island, Gears of War, Gears of War 2 and Halo: Reach had the best video commercials I have ever seen and none of them showed a second of gameplay. They all evoked strong emotions in the ads and it gave you a feel for the game.

Gears of War 2 was the only one that lived up to it. Probably the first one too, actually

I watched the first video, which was just a kids cartoon short with planeswalkers as characters, and didn’t tell me anything about the game. I looked through the stills of the game and thought I was looking at hearthstone.

Lol, when I first saw the game on Steam I was like, "what genre is this?". Took me a while to figure out it's a card game. Definitely not a fan of not having gameplay footage.

I read a negative review that touched on this:

Basically, they need to stop trying to make hearthstone clones, since hearthstone is already a mtg clone (basically they are trying to clone a clone).

The people writing that are wrong, but the point still feels like it has legs. The truth is they need to come up with something new. When you are behind a leader in business, you need to innovate and hope they can’t copy YOU.

I think the one for Reach is far better cuz the score just makes it feel epic and super heroic. But there’s a guy in the comments that agrees with you:

“If the military had commercials like this, I think America would have ruled the world and possibly the moon by now” lol

That commercial was amazing. It was very humanizing about the struggle. They took the absurd concept of space marines and made them feel relatable.

This is what I’m hoping we can make DJ understand. A commercial that doesn’t show gameplay can make you FEEL the game a bit and it can really want you to play it. For me immersiveness was always the most important part of a video game. More than gameplay. Resident Evil 1 is the perfect example. Gameplay is garbage but it’s the scariest game ever and really intense to play.

Feels good to hijack a thread again. Years of being confined to Off Topic thread has me spoiled
