Death to poseurs indeed. so I sang Walk at karaoke on Sunday. It kicked ass, this chick at the bar told me I should come to metal gigs with her. Not sure how my girl will feel about it but i will try to bring her along.

The irony about words like 'poseur' , 'wannabe' , and other terms used to try imply that someones interest in something is disingenuous... is that most of the time the ones calling names like that are the ones who are insecure due to their own disingenuous intent. They are trying so hard to "be part of a group" that they are willing to try and exclude others from being in it as well.

A true fan of something, in this case music, would be trying to make sure that as many people possible enjoyed the same thing that they did, and if someone was being false about their interest in it that person would try to show them the way to be legitimately involved rather than seeking to soley to drive them out with some idiotic sense of elitism.

Its music. If people dont like what you like, great, they have that right. If people like what you like, great, enjoy it rather than trying to find reasons to exclude them by pretentious jerk about it. But either way music is a fluid and evovling subject and you should be open to new ideas, new styles and new people.

TL;DR - People calling people poseurs are just poseurs themselves.

Well... duh. Of course, they could just be compensating.

Hey, incredibly clever wordplay makes just about everything tolerable. Look at the Residents.

Not to call him out or anything but Baxer had never heard of Rush. I turned him on to something from Clockwork Angels (Headlong Flight) that rocks, but as Metal theme seems to permeate the thread I will post what I would consider Progressive Metal, considering the theme and the time it was recorded.

Rush, along with Zeppelin had a few songs centered in the realm of Middle Earth (or the inspiration thereof) and this is one.
Enjoy.

Edit on the Fly: Bounty... Great Song!!!
Lusious Clay... bastards....

Thats been fifty years ago...
And you can go by there yet.
Theres a spot in the yard in back of that shack
Where the ground is always wet.

And on certain nights when the moon is right
Down by that dark footpath
You can hear three young men screamin
You can hear one old man laugh...

People who call people poseurs are poseurs themselves? Bounty proves again he has no clue what he's talking about.

Say that to Manowar, the epitome of false-stomping metal, son. I dare you.
"Wimps and poseurs leave the hall."

There are two facets of metal: "true" metal, which either sets the foundations for the genre, or legitimately pushes its boundaries... and modern metalcore, that is recycled excrement for teens with fringed hair and gauges: basically just pop punk with growls and screams.

He's saying your accusing people of being "fake" shows more signs of insecurity in your own identity rather than singling out those who you decided shouldn't be considered fans. He is also saying that by being noninclusive you're being needlessly elitist about music which I suspect he feels should be something non-elitist.
