It's very easy to get stuck in the loop of "i'll just play for my daily wins" (Arena and most other FTP games try to encourage this with predatory practices such as the daily deals, quests FOMO ect, trying to keep people on the hamster wheel) and when you do this long enough you're bound to burn out eventually.

I'd bet a lot of money that it's not the current state of Magic that's the reason that are why you're not having fun (we all know it's been in much worse state pre bans) I think most of us have probably been in the same boat at some point or another, i know i have - I strongly recommend putting down the game for an extended period of time, and don't load it up until you actually feel like playing magic again. Nowadays i force myself to close the client the moment i notice i'm not having fun/playing for quests ect and it's done a lot of good.

I never understood poker, it seems like a very simple and uninteresting game where you are completely at the mercy of the cards you're dealt. I remember sitting at one Texas Hold 'em table where one more experienced player attempted to bluff, while another, new player looked bemused and simply bet at random. However, it's legitimately possible that the new player has the better hand. In fact, if they're the only two players in the game, that chance is 50%. Might as well flip a coin then ... we gave up pretty quickly because it felt like there was no game to play, and moved on to Cluedo.

It's been one day since I uninstalled :)

**** this game. I don't have fun when I win and I have even less fun when I lose. Playing to 4 wins every day has become a chore, especially since it can easily take 30+ minutes.

I'm going to uninstall. If anyone wants my account, LMK - it's got tons of wildcards, many of the best current decks already built and enough wildcards to build those that it doesn't already have, and some 1500+ gems left.

I'll probably continue to follow the older formats but I probably won't play myself. I might continue to read this forum for a while as well, but probably not for long.

I hear you and took a two year break myself. That was during Duels. This is Arena and I don't see it leaving in the near future, not with all the support they have given it. Like sixty said, you may want to reconsider deleting or giving it away.
More than likely you will be back like I am and you will be full of regret. I'm not really because I had nothing invested in Duels and had this brand new Arena in beta to start back up with.

It's been two months since I quit. I don't miss the game at all, in fact I've been happier since I no longer have to log on to play. Even the Modern/Legacy videos I used to watch have gotten more boring since I now fast forward through large swathes of the video in which the game is mostly decided and one of the two players is playing for like a 1% chance of winning.

The thing I miss most from Magic is the card-by-card gameplay with some random elements; on the other hand I definitely do not miss how random Magic games can be where even the best players have a ~60% win rate at best.

Right now, I think the card game I am most likely to enjoy is Twilight Struggle. Has anyone played that game? The gameplay looks excellent, but the game lengths (from videos it looks like each game often takes >1 hour) and the fact that the meta never changes are problematic. Some of the random elements also seem too harsh, e.g. it seems to me that making spacing cards auto-succeed makes more sense. Another possible improvement is to put scoring cards in a common pool, freely available to both players whenever they want it; many games seem to be decided because the scoring card was or was not drawn at an opportune time.

Finally I still have my account, really nobody wants it? I'm extremely unlikely to reinstall.

Twilight Struggle is quite simply the best board game of all time. I'm really happy to hear you're into it.

Due to the randomization and great number of cards, no game will play the same way. You'll be surprised just how deep the game is.

Being aware of every card in the deck becomes something you start to use to mitigate risk and becomes really interesting. "does he have this card right now or not... he's acting like he does... I better hang on to my 4+ card as long as possible in case he has it..."

Enjoy it and hope you love it as much as I did

I consider it the best of my four favourite board games. The others being War of the Ring, Puerto Rico and Caylus

Yeah I first got interested in Twilight Struggle because it was rated so highly on BoardGameGeek. The game length is very daunting, however. If it's 15 minutes, sure, but at one hour per game it's just too time-consuming.

Has anyone tried Gods Unchained? Reviews I've seen haven't been bad, and there's some appeal to making money from playing a F2P game. I certainly played MTGA long enough that I'd be able to sell wildcards if those were tradable (I am bad news for game studios, I know).

i think it's a lot more than an hour. My first game went at least 3 hours. Once you get good, should take 90-120 minutes. I love it. Maybe 2.5 hours sometimes :) I used to play with my ex-wife all the time. We'd put on a pot of tea. It was absolute heaven.

Doesn't seem like people here play much magic anymore, but Wizards posted the breakdown of decks getting seven wins in their standard and historic metagame challenge. Reveals a quite diverse metagame at the moment, with quite a few decks floating around. I'm curious about this mono-r dwarves deck.

Wow that’s awesome. I figured my best decks in Duels were the ones that went on crazy streaks too. I had one deck go on a 40-something win streak once. It was a Boros deck if memory serves

I love that they track that and share it. What a great idea.

Lol, watching various videos on the Tibalt deck in Modern/Legacy reminds me of why I quit Magic in the first place.

Probably going to get back into Gwent, currently playing Thronebreaker.

Broken card. Does wiz even playtest anything outside of draft nowadays?

TBF, Valki/Tibalt is pretty fair when you're not cascading into a 7 drop on turn 3

Modern has been two ships sailing in the night since about 2013 haha

I don't think the problem is that Valki/Tibalt is a 7-drop, but rather that it is a threat that cannot be easily answered + snowballs the game when left in play. Like, a 10/10 indestructible creature is probably worth 7 mana, but it wouldn't be as threatening as Tibalt, because it can still be answered by Path to Exile or Reflector Mage or chump blocked, etc. But Tibalt has high loyalty, ticks up quickly, and wins the game on its own. Untapping with Tibalt is very strong because you can now dedicate all your mana to keeping him alive, and you will win.

It's everything that's wrong with the planeswalker card type, really. I get that planeswalkers are very popular in general, but I hate them as a game mechanic.

Oh, I was talking about the other Tibalt card, the counterspell, the one that let's you cast an 8 drop on T2

Also, yes, planeswalkers are a **** problem. Should go back to Lorwyn level planeswalkers.

Also also, I've always thought that Emblems should be Permanents, that way things that destroy or exile target permanent can interact with them, but wtf do I know about game balance?

Before they ban it I'm thinking about putting a couple into my Niv deck. Bringing him out on t3 without having to fix up three mountains and three islands would be amazeballs.

I'm surprised I'm actually contemplating reinstalling. I still have absolutely no desire to play Standard, but I find I miss drafting a little. There're lots of other card games out there, but nothing I've seen give the same experience.

This post makes me very very mad, regardless of the fact it is 2 years old.

Nah, my favourite player at the table is the one thinking it's a game of pure luck and coin flips, never pushing the edges ever. limps pre-flop, etc. Heaven.

Players that think it's a game of luck generally have the highest VPIP

But he's not same random rube. He plays MtG. He should understand that variance is not the same thing as pure luck.

Honestly, I'm surprised that you have higher expectations of MtG players. I've learned to lower my expectations of these people. Someone with backgammon probably has a better appreciation and understanding for the nuances of poker

People that talk about getting top-decked are the same that complain about the river.
