Haven is about the only reason I play standard anymore. He always comes up with decks that are right up my alley. I still only have one deck I play in the current standard and it's one of his.

Haven was/is a master builder of mono red. I adored his decks. Barney likes quick games, win or lose.

I knew I could never make a red Mage, not so much for the RDiW hate but it takes skill to pilot such a deck. The only RDW deck I built to spec was Haven’s but I could never pilot it well enough. It’s still my only mono red deck. Mono Black And Mono Green in particular I could build and play to a decent standard. Mono Blue was another deck I struggled to build to a competitive standard.

RU Izzet however was different. So the reason For focusing on the mono decks is as a ftp player they tend to be more consistent and certainly with black, green and white in particular I could build Well. Given white’s dominance as a colour even now my mono White historic build can probably manage just over the 50% win rate. But of course boredom sets in pretty quickly. It figures. I started as a pretty solid red mage, hence my name and as Barney sometimes I just want to play a bang em up, shoot em up match win or lose still. I've matured and expanded (I'm still a horrible player) but in the end I have that love for solid aggressiveness without the frills and that's where Haven and I match up perfectly most all the time. He built a mono white quite a few seasons ago that I modded a little to make my own and it's still what I would consider one my more outstanding historic decks I would choose to play on ladder for a quest. Last season Haven had an enchantment deck I fiddles with also but this one I've been using... I haven't felt the need to mess with it yet.
Historic Brawl is what we are here to do. I hope we get our 8. I haven't built anything yet. I want to see the field first and then lose.

Discussed with Magic Master and although he is primarily a limited / standard Arena player he is happy to join the NGA Historic Brawl tourney so finally we have our eight!

What's New Cappena?

The latest Magic Set. Released today. The active serious players will want to spend time on the latest set I imagine. But if we can confirm on the 8 I can prepare for the NGA Historic Brawl Tournament. As it’s designed to be more casual the hope is people can spend the time to play the series of all play all BO1 matches. This will determine bracket rankings for upper and lower bracket rankings for the elimination matches. For those who enjoy Historic and with a decent collection it is an alternate to the traditional tournaments that have been available in the past.
