Oh, look, an OOC room!

I had to pull out due to lack of resources to play, but no one else has posted...so I'm doing a drive by. Yeehah!!

I love how the OOC thread begins with the emoticon equivalent of a seizure. Foreshadowing? Maybe. Heh.

Hey everyone, congrats on yet another successful campaign launch. Glad to see our little corner of the boards is picking up steam and moving along nicely.

Rstnme, if you've ever got any questions about running PbP stuff just let me know either by PM or asking up in the tavern thread / setup area. Usually the first post of the OoC is a good place to compile information about the world, link to maps, keep notes etc and with 4E being grid based I know how important being able to see the battlefield in combat can be so I extend the same offer that I have the other DMs here: If you never need any help with making maps, or hosting information, or any of that type of stuff feel free to ask for help. Usually if you do a quick sketch of what you need I cant pretty it up decently either with a spreadsheet map or an actual image one.

Some of the games here have been using google docs maps and if you dont know much about Google Drive I can give you pointers for sure.

I'm also getting fairly decent at photoshopping some maps together. Takes more time but looks prettier.

My first question is pretty basic -- the coloring/bolding of dialogue; is there a DM protocol for this? I'm just doing black. Should I be doing fuscia or magenta or something? Where is the color numeration code anyway?

You can highlight the text and click on one of the color boxes on the right to change the color.

From what I've seen, people usually bold and color when the character speaks, and I've been using italics with the same color for thoughts.

Coloring and bolding is completely up to the DM. A lot of PbP use bolded and colored text for speech, colored italics for thoughts, and normal text for actions to help make it stand out.

Normally as a DM I like to have a stand out color for important information, while all my fluff just stays black. That way people can see whats going on at a glance. I'm at work so im on my phone but will link examples when I can.

But again its all DM fiat, you can type in all pink if ya want

OK cool. What's the pacing for DM posting vs player posting? Like, do I wait until everyone posts before I post again? Or do I only do that for combat?

Totally up to you.

I try to respond as much as I can outside of combat, even if its just to describe things going on in the atmosphere. Having things to respond to normally gets players to post more than if they come up stuff from scratch. Be mindful that you dont leave a certain player behind by pushing the conversation too far forward, but as long as the players and DMs communicate you can avoid that. That's why as I player I always try to included intentions not just actions, that way the DM isnt waiting on me and can move things forward if needed.

Speaking of which, Libi will use whatever the hell this is for her speaking voice.

Now might be a good time to "gather your supplies" from your rooms, and drop little hints of your background, as well as what your character is like by describing your room. Remember it's winter, and you're going to the mountains, so pack warm!

Hmm, I actually kinda wanted to follow Flint outside and try and recruit him to be my apprentice.... but at the same time, I don't wanna waste the group's time with it.

Sorry, I never did get around to writing my backstory, so I'm trying to incorporate as much of it as I can into the IC thread. The basic points are:

-- Stolen from her family as an infant and raised by a man she could only call 'Uncle' on the outskirts of a town she wasn't allowed to go into or interact with. They lived in a makeshift house that was camouflaged to look like the surrounding forests.
-- He trained her as an assassin, as well as minor magical skills like Prestidigitation. Her training was with hand-to-hand knife and garrote skills. Being in the woods, she was shown how to concoct poisons out of the bounty of nature, as well as how to handle them so as not to get poisoned by her own creations.
-- He took her into the Shadow Plane for training and it tainted her eyes and hair. (mostly to justify her shadow skills / spells at later levels) On a daily basis, she can feel the shadows reaching out to her, trying to draw her back into the nightmares of the plane.
-- He told her that her training would be complete when she could kill him while he was awake. Even attempting to kill him in his sleep proved to be difficult since he set traps and poisons all around their property to thwart her.
-- By age 14, she didn't succeed in killing him and she woke up to a note on the table of their home that simply read "Pathetic" in his handwriting. It was laced in a minor contact poison.
-- Since then she has worked as a mercenary, taking as many contracts as she can find to make her ends meet since her only true skills are in murder.
