My thoughts:

Secret Lairs are always the same price and they clearly don't pay MUCH attention to the secondary market value of the cards included, which leads to them having hilariously different values. The basic land drops are terrible value even if they're amazingly pretty (or full-text memes). The praetors was a great deal if you just wanted Praetors because all but Urabrask are over 10 individually and Norn and Vorinclex are over 20, so the secret lair price for all 5 would have been a steal for normal prints.

As for losing money... we don't know what the overhead on art is like, but the drops themselves are basically print on demand so even with a swanky box they probably don't need to move that many units for a SLD to be profitable.

They will probably do two of each colored basic and two Wastes to make it an even 12. No idea if they'll modulate with Snow but if they introduce Snow-Covered Wastes in a bloody astrology secret lair I will be a little miffed.
