Well, be sure to keep the window closed. After all, there are no goblins allowed here...

She-Ra is something alright. Not that knowing Noelle Stevenson was behind it wasn't a big factor in picking it up.

I could never really get into it. The flat colors put me off.
The fact noelle stevenson was behind it did not help, nor, especially did the crew's conduct on Twitter.

Not that the original was in any degree a masterpiece, but the amount of disrespect they lobbed at it is disgusting, doubly so since they took credit for a ton of the work done in the original.
Of course, that conduct isn't particularly surprising given how Stevenson tried to force out the creator of lumberjanes and take all the credit.

Heh, fair. The animation is generally very basic, and I understand how a visual style can put people off a work.

*sigh* of course there's backstage ****. Could you expand on it or point toward sources so I can read up on it myself, please? I was mostly referring to Nimona, which was a lovely webcomic with somewhat similar themes about archrivalry and other things.

I can try to find some articles that covered the lumberjanes stuff, but it's been a few years since that was all stirred up.
As for the Twitter junk, I follow a few youtubers that kept a close eye on all that as it popped up. Of course, said commentators are biased, but they always showed the tweets so even without the commentary I could weigh on my own opinion about what was said.

Can I get some of those YT names? I trust the related video titles are easy enough to search. (I could look for those on my own, but most content I can find on a quick search is positive so ironically I need help to find the critical stuff lol)

A lot of you are more knowledgeable about video games than I am, so I'll ask this here.

I've always wanted to play a game based around the concept of evolution where your goal is to evolve species, but rather than make any decisions about the creatures/species directly, you control the environment and that causes species to evolve differently.

Does anyone know if a game like that exists and, if so, if it's any good? With my summer break coming up, I will finally have time to sink into a new game, potentially.

There is one that I know of, but I don't know the name. One of the youtubers I have watched in passing was messing around with it.
I'll find that while I dig that stuff up for huey as well.

I believe Sim Earth worked like that.

I definitely remember watching Markiplier playing something very similar to what you're describing.* I think it was more of a sim than an actual game with goals, and you could influence evolution more directly via a special contained area where you could select for certain features (and you could release your creation into the wild to hopefully breed and continue its lineage), but the main factors were you controlling the environment and just watching the little critters adapt or die.

I'm about to go to bed right now and it might take me a while to dig it up, so give me a little bit.

*Disclaimer for my own sake: I don't regularly watch Markiplier, but occassionally have bouts where I want to just "turn my brain off" and he's kind of a funny guy with a genuine good heart, even if he does put on the "LOL I'M SO WHACKY!" personality for his "show".

--------------

Also, in personal news, I have been... incensed for the last few days. I don't think I'm, like, actively angry, but I have definitely been upset and actively joining other friends for things like Monster Hunter so I can de-stress at the end of the day.

the rant about it, if anyone cares

Sounds like the AI Dungeon guys dropped the ball so hard it came out the other side. Of the earth. The ball was dropped through the earth.

It's caused a lot of tension in the community, especially since I joined one of the smaller sub-groups that grew out of the AID community, and as for me it's been having this weird effect that I'm actually checking in on the sub-group that I joined as part of that, when I've been so wrapped up in social anxiety in recent times that I've been away for weeks at a time.

Thanks, Barinellos! I will check this out and see if it looks like something I'd want to try. I really appreciate the effort of you looking for it.

I bought Spore a couple of years ago because it sounded sort of like what I was looking for. I didn't hate it, but I got bored with it fairly easily. I don't think I ever made it past the second phase for that reason.

Sorry to hear about this and your personal interactions with it, Luna. I've played AI Dungeon a couple of times and enjoyed it, but I never really created anything I wouldn't want shared. Still, that's a pretty egregious breach of trust. Not to go on a rant or anything, but this sort of thing seems pretty symptomatic of modern corporate philosophy, thinking of things like social media and the like. It is very disappointing to hear about.

The weird thing is, that the dev team only doubled in the last year from 10 people to 20, so it's still a tiny company, but there is a lot of corporate speak in their official announcements even if they're more confusingly open when on places like Discord or Reddit. Also, since they are using kind of cutting-edge AI tech, they have a few investors keeping an eye on them, but I think most of all this event has come off the same as writers (often fanfiction writers) that find unexpected popularity and then disagree with the way people are talking about it so much that they start flame wars in their own comment sections.

We're currently going on day 4 of absolute silence from the dev team, and it's really frustrating (not that I think they could rebuild the trust they broke), and I thank you all for letting me rant about it and being sympathetic.

I've been considering possibly getting back into writing again because of this loss of writing tool, but I'm not really sure I can. It takes so much more mental energy, and on top of that, right now, I'm most interested in seeing where the NSFW stories I was playing around with would go, like that one that I had a milk cow mommy and the AI gave me this whole weird "marriage of caretaking" relationship that was neither romantic or reproductive, or the one where I was a D&D-esque shapeshifting dragon that had, over the centuries, given up being a tyrant and instead ended up with a harem of ladies who had been sacrificed to him.

I finally got blinds on my window. Not sure how the landlord never saw any point in putting blinds on a ground floor window pointing directly at the neighbors yard, but I guess it wasn't a priority. I first brought it up with the landlord over a month ago. I offered to install it and buy it (didn't see it flying if I didn't) but they didn't get back to me to say I was allowed to do it... technically ever. I just ended up saying I was going to go and get them. Then my landlord said he would install them for me. On 4 separate occasions. He installed them on 0 occasions. I just ended up asking to borrow some tools and installed them myself. You know, almost a month later than I would have if he didn't offer to put them up. Pretty annoyed about that.
Now I have to set up a mother's day dinner for the stepmother I have no love for.
My week's been kinda crappy.

I feel that frustration.
I'm going to have to invest in a host of new fixtures in a few days.
New bookshelf, new coffee table, new area rug...
And then I'll need to figure out a new arrangement for some of what I already have just to squeeze a little more surface area out of my living space.

The stepmother, on the other hand, I'm afraid I can offer no solace for.

My week started pretty lousy, with allergies kicking my ass so bad on Monday that I was still sore the next day, and work was such a bear that I couldn't get any rest to recover. Meanwhile, the problems I outlined with AIDungeon are still ongoing 12 days after initially starting, and the devs are distancing themselves from their own community by deleting links to the reddit/discord/etc., and it's getting so tiring.

It hasn't gotten any easier lately to shoulder the burden of things I should do or need to do -- case in point, recently a class action settlement (i.e. a lawsuit settled out-of-courts) against Blue Cross Blue Shield for freaking colluding instead of competing against other insurance companies on the open market that I'll be able to file a claim for -- so I find myself playing a lot of video games on my off-time, often to the exclusion of keeping in touch with the friend groups that I know want me around.
