Don't worry, things will be looking up soon enough.

Thank you very much! It was a nice day, no big celebration, just taking it easy and hanging out with my wife for most of it.

First, thank you so for the birthday wishes! It was a very chill and low-key birthday without any kind of party (for obvious reasons), my wife made carrot cake and basically let me play video games all day. So it was good.

Did you get carrot cake again? :)

I did not get carrot cake. But otherwise, yeah, mostly the same as last year. Which I don't mind, but it will be nice when we can actually celebrate things with people again. Certainly not doing anything now, there been a recent uptick in local cases. Found out an acquaintance is currently in the hospital.

But I don't think I could find anyone to help me work on it. I don't even know where I'd start.

As someone who played a lot of the Oracle of Seasons/Ages pairs of games, I can attest there's already a lot of sprites that could simply be lifted from the older games (I think the SNES also had a Zelda game or two that might fit the aesthetic?), since for me and a lot of people, "Pokémon" games look like they did in the GBC/GBA days (just take a look at the biggest fan projects like Crystal Clear or Uranium).

That said, I don't know how make a game or ROMhack, either -- and it's remains to be seen whether I'd be capable of doing it given what I have.

Holy CRAP today was scuffed.
I've been waiting for a package at a shop that was supposed to come in yesterday. I'm now told it will be Monday.
I had to leave work to pick up my parents because my mom's car died. Got them back home, but that was stuff I wasn't planning to do.
But then, the kicker, in at work and the building got struck by bloody lightning! It fried the breakers on our apartment systems and we had to pass out about 130 customers and close early.

So, yeah, today has been unexpected. Probably just scrub it from recent memory.

That's a hell of a day. Building struck by lightning! with no rod I can see. That's got to be insane bad luck.

@Raven: I hope things get better soon, that sounds quite unpleasant. However, I also have to say that reading about the fact that your predicament was helped by the fact that you happen to have a sword cane reminded me of how cool our little corner of the internet really is.

Thanks, Aaarrrgh. Finally, my passing resemblance to Raiker Venn has paid dividends!

I wonder if Raiker orchestrated this somehow, or if he's gonna feel offended by this :D

Hoping things get better soon; I too have a slightly annoying knee, but nowhere near that. Week has been meh this far, but after tomorrow I should have 4 straight days away from work in which I anticipate, crossing fingers, to rest as much as possible.

(I've been touching up my Frosthearts piece btw, it will benefit from a general polishing and an ending less thick with condensed info)

A frightening thought, either way!

Hoping things get better soon;

Thanks.

Yeah, knee problems are certainly not fun. It affects so much of what we do. I had an injury to that same knee when I was 17, and it occasionally bothered me over the years, especially on stairs, but not very often. This is the worst it's ever been for me.

Week has been meh this far, but after tomorrow I should have 4 straight days away from work in which I anticipate, crossing fingers, to rest as much as possible.

Here's hoping you get the rest you need, Huey. That sounds very nice.

Good luck with the revisions! I've started three or four stories for the HS thread that haven't really gone anywhere. I just haven't been in the right mindset for writing for a long time now, between work and health stresses. Hopefully soon, or at least when this hellish school year is finally over.

Bluuuuh!!
So, this weekend was busy. Godzilla v kong definitely proved people want to see movies in theaters, despite all those whiny **** who keep declaring doom for the industry.
Unfortunately... We collectively underestimated the actual demand and we were already short handed this weekend.
So Friday, we anticipated 300-350. What we got was 550. Even the next day we got over 400.
Today has been more in line with our expectations, but it got to be a dicey run for a little.

So, this week was apparently more of a recovery week then anything, but unfortunately, I've been stressed over the announcement they made in Monday regarding the audits they do at work, paired with what I feel is a somewhat unreasonable expectation placed on me, also at work.

So I've been low-key running the engine with no oil, as it were, and my mental health pistons feel a bit banged up as a result. Plus there's this smoke... Probably not great.

Anyway, in still trying to make the rounds, check on everybody, but my normally gregarious attitude has been mildly depleted. Which is unfortunate since I normally decompress by being social (which is a paradoxical dichotomy for an introvert who has to spend energy to be social)

I feel you, Barinellos. I've been having to fight (and in some cases, others have had to force me) to be more social and implode into a ball of nerves and anxiety.

(Also I can attest that Barinellos has been reaching out lately.)

Personal Stuff, feel free to ignore

That sounds awful, Raven; I hope you end up feeling better and they get you fixed up. Obviously I know hospitals (here in the U.S.) are a complex, stressful affair, but one thing I've learned working in an orthopedic clinic is that knees are apparently super easy to fix/replace; they even do surgeries on 90-year-olds and have them out of the hospital within like 2 days. So, here's hoping you get good treatment and all.

--------

My last few weeks have been really trying at work, too, though it doesn't sound nearly as catastrophic as the rest of you have had. Just the normal flood wearing away at my banks, with the usual non-communication from our managers making things more stressful than it has to be.

my work gripes, if you want to indulge me

in brighter news

In unrelated media talk, I re-watched Gurren Lagann, and can't believe I never noticed the heavy yakuza imagery early on in the show with Kamina. At first, I wanted to say there's some subtle subtextual criticism of the yakuza because of this, but as I progressed I realized that that much should be implied because the entire text of Gurren Lagann is about questioning authority and making a world better than the one you currently live in, so even the main character's aren't exempt from this meta-narrative.

Also, and I don't remember whether I mentioned this a while back, but since I recently re-watched Trigun, I came to the realization that I'm just a sucker for "pacifism actually wins" stories. I think that's a large reason why I ended up favoring Planet With so much, rather than it necessarily being deep or well-written.

It sounds like Luna’s office is more organized than mine. ^^ You may not believe it but you got this.

I am in a position where I make people feel significantly better by saying “Hey the worst thing that could happen is you lose your job.” There are several layers of meaning there lol.
