Town Pinky’s Across America - What this world needs is absolute Faith. To that end each night you may invite a player to your discord, but will only be successful if they have made a Pinky Promise. To that end you cannot access your own discord until you’ve made a Pinky Promise yourself. Any player that breaks a Promise will be kicked from the server.
Let’s be Masons! - At the start of the game you must pick a player. If you both Pinky Promise to reveal your alignments to each other your alignments will be mod confirmed and you will be allowed to converse with each other in a discord. If one of you chooses not to Pinky Promise you will still be able to communicate in the discord, but will lack alignment confirmations. If neither of you Pinky Promises nothing will come of this and you’ll basically be vanilla.
With this Pinky I thee protect - Each night you may Pinky Promise to protect a player from harm. This does not mean you will protect them however. If they would be killed before the next night you will have the option to uphold your vow or break it and let them die.
With this Pinky I thee slay - Each day you may Pinky Promise to kill a player the following night in the game thread. During the night you will have the option to uphold your vow and kill them or break your vow and let them live.
Only one Pinky to give - You’re a person of distinction. You don’t just go around giving your Pinky to anybody. You demand absolute fidelity. To that end you can make only one Pinky Promise during the course of this game. However, that Pinky Promise will not be able to be broken by either party, nor can it be denied (this may be pertinent to abilities that let multiple parties choose to Pinky Promise or not in relation to a single ability).
I Betray you BECAUSE I love you - Any Pinky Promise you make will be broken. This, unfortunately, is non-negotiable. In instances where the option to break a promise is present you will automatically select that option. In instances where you must choose to promise or not, you will automatically select not. In instances where you are checked for having made a Promise, whether you have already broken one or not, you will flag as no promises.
Is that a Pinky in your pocket or are you just happy to see me? - Each night you may target a Player. You will see anybody they make Pinky Promises with that night.
Let’s keep it honest - Each night you may target a player, that player will not be able to break a Pinky Promise that night.
Mafia Betrayal is a disease - Each night you may target a player, that player will be forced into breaking a promise already made or made that night. In the event of multiple promises, one will be randomly selected.
Deceit is all I know - You are incapable of making any real Pinky Promises. But further you are capable of claiming Pinky Promised status on any Promise made and will check as Pinky Promised to any abilities that check for such status.
If they got no Pinky’s, they got no Promises - Twice during the game at night you may target a player, you will sever that player’s Pinky. This will break all current Promises. A second Pinky severed will do the same, but also render them incapable of making any more Pinky Promises.
Self The Unbreakable Vow - Whenever you enter into a Promise it will become an Unbreakable Vow. Yes, THAT Unbreakable Vow. The consequences for any player breaking the Vow will be death. So choose your Vows, Allies, and Enemies wisely. Very wisely.
Promises
Rag If Mafia will not post If mafia will not vote If mafia will not activate abilities Claim Code Name, abilities, info on other players, Alignment (Unbreakable with Tevish) If Town won’t post (broken; unpunished) Won’t post again (broken; unpunished) Mongoose If mafia will not post If mafia will not vote If mafia will not activate abilities Naga Will be Masons with CL If mafia will not post If mafia will not vote If mafia will not activate abilities That he quoted his role pm Targeted KoD N1 with quoted role only KoD Not to kill Dusky (Unbreakable Vow with Dusky) Defend Zinger against everything/anything until both die/game end Has not broken any promises Has not made any OC promises Promises to not vote/encourage others to vote Aaarrrgh during the cycle Promises to vote Ex last, where possible Dusky Not to kill KoD Tevish Claim Code Name, abilities, info on other players, Alignment Zinger NLP is in effect Is not mafia Is Town If mafia will out entire team by end of Day and self vote If lynched town loses investigative role If Kod is lynched and CL is on wagon will vote CL following day Defend KoD against everything/anything until both die/game end Monster Not to forget she signed up for the game again Is town (broken; unpunished) Not scum CL Will be Masons with Naga Ex Promises he’s not aligned with anybody currently Promises allegiance to entire game Aaarrrgh Promises to vote Ex and leave it there if KoD promises to not vote him or encourage others to do so during the cycle.
So the first spoiler are the original roles of the game. Ex's was added on the fly based off of a screenshot Rubik posted in the discord of Ex saying he was tempted to play but figured I'd just **** him over in the promises so his role was simply that his promises were unbreakable. He also started the game without a win con and had to promise his allegiance to a player to gain theirs. Aaarrrgh's and Dusky's were flexible roles designed to be swapped on alignments based on how the numbers ended up falling, with the game state favoring less scum and a self. At the start of the game, however, I counted Ex as a body but didn't have his role incorporated, thus throwing off the original 1/4 ratio. This was a mistake as I drafted Ex and shouldn't have balanced with him involved in any way even if I was going to strong arm him into playing just so I could screw him over. >_> (Because he had the option to not play, troll the thread and never pick up a win con, basically do whatever).
In terms of the roles, they were pretty straightforward with minor flavor tweaks that resulted in slight strength variances. Town ended up with a stronger Doc (Rag could stop kills and lynches), an off beat tracker (Zinger could only track the Doc, the Vig, and the mafia Kill in terms of roles but could also track promises made in OC night chats), an open vig (had to promise his targets death in thread the day before he killed them), a strong arm (Naga), a mason/neighbor (CL/Naga), a Networker (KoD), and the obligatory WTV (Amber's inability to promise). Tevish had the odd role out in that I don't really have a standard equivalent for it. He was also designed to trump every role in the game, which is why he was limited to one promise. The mafia ended up with a roleblocker (Aaarrrgh), a babyface (Skystone), and a limited vanilla-izer (monster). Dusky's role was quite versatile and quite powerful, but utilizing it required the self to constantly put themselves at risk unnecessarily.
The second spoiler is the promises I tracked throughout the game. The punishment hierarchy had four tiers. The first break would garner a mod vote. The second a roleblock. The third strips them of their role. The fourth and final is death. No punishments were handed out this game. As the game started, all non town players were promised that they would receive no punishments from broken alignment promises. This is the basic structure of keeping the game from being broken, but I also left myself an out for any promise I didn't feel like punishing, which is why I was free to ignore all the ones Rag broke trying to test out the system. Any mechanical breaks were ignored as well (essentially only earnest promises chosen to be broken would be punished). The promisary system was Town's biggest asset most under utilized. To that end Rag had a solid strategy of weaponizing the system, but just focused too hard on trying to alignment break the game. Most town seemed keen on the idea of it validating their own claims, but they didn't hold others accountable to the same standard, failing to weaponize it again. If they had, Monster would have been caught Day 1 simply by asking her to promise her role claim was accurate. Additionally you could have soft cleared Rag under Tevish's promise simply by having Rag promise to the effect that all the information she claimed in her promise to Tevish except where pertaining to alignments was accurate. This confirms she had no role information on any other player at that point, with it being unlikely the mafia wouldn't have already started discussing strategies and sharing information.
Overall town was never really out of it until late game when all the actives were taken out. Mongoose held the keys to the kingdom for town, having the ability to swing the game in town's favor as long as they got one more lynch right. Mafia did have a bit of falling out and weren't communicating after Aaarrrgh's death which would have contributed to that as well but they managed to stick the landing anyway. In terms of the fallout they split over open wolfing and bussing, which I fall on either side of. In terms of open wolfing, I think it was the right strategy to not go for it since they still had unknown town components and couldn't control the lynch the following day. In terms of bussing Aaarrrgh, I think Sky could have reasonably stayed off of the wagon without siding with Aaarrrgh or Monster and maintained enough cover to not be a suspect the following day, letting that day fall to a no lynch instead.
So Town MVP goes to KoD for pegging the entire mafia once he was unable to continue trying to perpetuate a fake cult claim with his network. Mafia MVP goes to Mongoose Monster for just being so damn entertaining to watch most of the game even if she made wildly risky plays. Self MVP goes to Dusky for deciding that fun is more important than the W.
once he was unable to continue trying to perpetuate a fake cult claim with his network.
@#$%ing savages I tell you.

Zinger209908 you are in a better position than you were before KoD saved you from yourselves you should thank him before he kills himself with his hail marry here
funnier6 Also for goodness sake you know KoD could argue until he had sucked all the air in the room and was suffocating on the floor
shadowamber you gotta admit the bus gifs were kinda funny though
All the "should have done in monster sooner" in the world wouldn't have saved you from Skystone, whom you had cleared because you couldn't fathom a world where he bussed Aaarrrgh to fool you.
I don't know why scum bussed Aaarrrgh.
While Skystone gives an explanation, the fact that even when calling me out you didn't have an answer to the bus I think means that me acting on the assumption that a bus at that point was illogical (potentially snatching defeat from the jaws of victory) I think means I can be forgiven for THAT particular screwup.

Yeah, all of us on the scum team had completely different playstyles, which caused some tension in the scum chat, but made it impossible for town to connect us. So I guess it worked out for us.
Now that this poll is officially over, it's time to congratulate Aaarrrgh for designing Hill, which has been decided by popular vote to be the Card of the Month for October 2013!
Yeah, I was a mason. Got a message at the beginning asking if I wanted to. When CL died so early I figured I just would never say anything about it since it would make me look sus.
