Hey guys, my dad is in the hospital.
His blood pressure spiked yesterday.
We finally packed him into the car, under protest, and got him treatment, but they're keeping him for observation overnight

Wow. I'm really sorry to hear that! I hope everything goes alright and he gets better as quickly as possible.

As always, if you feel you need to talk about it more, feel free to do so, either here or in a PM.

So, update.
After doing the MRI, he'd had a small stroke. He's recovering and they're going to run some more treatments through him to get his profusion up to counteract some of the effects.
He's already doing better, but his speech kinda took a hit, well have to wait and see how much better that gets.

All in all, yeah, not a great day.

Thank you for your kindness Raven, and anyone likely to respond after.

Oh, man. I'm glad you were able to get him in as quickly as you did. The father of another friend of mine recently had some sort of allergic reaction to something and his face starting puffing up and turning red. He flat-out refused to go to the hospital. In that case, it just ended up being one miserable night, but that kind of obstinance can lead to some pretty nasty consequences.

I'm glad you guys know the problem, and I wish him a speedy recovery.

I appreciate the sentiment, but I didn't even know something was wrong until yesterday and it apparently started on Saturday. So... Yeah, not exactly quick and he's stubborn as you can infer.

But I'm not going to tolerate it anymore considering what's happened.

It is amazing and sad how people can just refuse care like that. I'm glad you managed to get through to him. Several people in my wife's family have severe health issues that they are not getting proper care for because they are afraid of the financial consequences (or in one case, just afraid of doctors due to childhood trauma). It is terribly frustrating.

Oof. Joining everybody with the well-wishes. Hospitals must be particularly not fun these days.

They're going to keep him for another few days.
He hasn't gotten a good rest in a while, so I have to think that's having an adverse effect on their observations, but I can appreciate that they're being cautious.
He has medicaid, but I'm not at all confident of what to expect out ofthe medical expenses we're going to have to deal with.

Apropos of nothing, I came across this post while looking for something else.

I kind of miss days when I would just post random **** like this...

I don't think it's been that long since you last did it.
It only feels that way because everything's been on fire lately.

Oh, man, I'm so sorry for you. I haven't checked in the last few days and completely missed that this happened. I really hope everything comes out okay for him and you. I even responded to your message before swinging by, and now I feel like an ass, saying there hasn't been much to comment on.

I think Barinellos hits the nail on the head here; I still feel like this year has been dragging on, even though I'm not nearly as hair-pulling stressed as I was this time last year.

Something I said early last year that I think still holds true: this has been the longest **** decade, and it's only just started.

I know I was just on a few hours ago, but I just finished a session with my therapist, and talking with them made me feel a little more confident to actually just say a few words on some topics that I have been holding onto -- things that I would like to dedicate a lot more time to talking about, if I had the mental energy to do so.

I think I've mentioned in passing that I've been playing a lot of video games recently (though I might be getting confused who I mentioned that to), so I'll start with that.

I recently bought and completed A Hat in Time (not 110%, but all the time pieces including what was added in the DLC), and I didn't like it as much as I thought I would. I'm still not sure if it's just that I'm too... depressed, I guess (though for the record, I hate resorting to that word when I haven't had any official diagnosis) to enjoy it right now, or my tastes have changed or something, but it didn't give me any sense of joy to play. It was just something that I happened to be playing as I passed the time with video games, and I could only seem to think about its flaws. At the end, I looked at it like a better version of Yooka-Laylee and a worse version of Mario Odyssey.

I'm also over 120 hours into Hades, which I'm sure counts for something towards saying how enjoyable it is, given I've kept playing quite past the story and epilogue. It's kind of a fascinating game as a sort of case study for how to tell a story, IMO, but it's also left a sour taste in my mouth a few times for being what I call a "gamer's game" and not explaining itself well enough, just expecting the player to go along with it all.

And to anyone who has played Hades, Dusa broke my heart.

I know that feel.

It's kinda counteracted by having a very handy easy mode though, which not a lot of roguelites have. Also the run-based story progression means quicker death at the start = faster story progression. The game explains clearly enough what you're going to take both in terms of room rewards and upgrades, which is information that roguelikes for some reason like to keep hidden.

...and I didn't have too hard of a time grokking the game, so I'm obviously biased :D

Aww, I understand. Still, makes lots of sense for her character. It may also be a jab to that kind of romances that are really popular in anime? But I may be pulling staff outta my ass here.

Personally, Nyx is Best Mom and Hermes The Most Chill Motherf-er.

Hey, so there's kind of a thought experiment/game that I want to field, but it's something that'd benefit from a dedicated thread.
But it's totally not magic related. I'm firstly just curious if anyone might want to take part, but also if anyone would mind a janky off theme thread for us to riff in.

Practically speaking, even though I'd love to make it happen, I don't have the equipment or skills, but I still like the idea enough to cobble it together.

A legend of zelda themed pokemon rom game.

I mean, I didn't, either, but when it took me unlocking more than half the mirror to realize there's an entire other side to it, something's up. Apparently this is a widespread issue, from what little talk I've heard.

As long as we're talking just favorite characters, aside from Dusa (who was the only character I was actually interested in romancing), I've grown to like Poseidon's goofiness and Artemis's... like, everything (in another era, I could see myself becoming like her) -- and I really like how they play off of each other on those rare instances you get the duo-dialogue. I also really love Asterius's stoic amicability/honor or whatever you call it. It's only very recently that I really started to appreciate perspectives of warriors (particularly from other time periods), and he hits all the right notes for that.

Obviously, I could spend a lot more time talking about these characters and the... like, really positive queerness the game has? (obviously I see that as a plus), but I don't want to spend a lot of time on it right now. I do want to note that the voice of Hermes has been involved in the community speedrun tournaments (as host/commentator). It's really cool to see that.

On the one hand, there are other sub-forums like the Creative Corner towards the bottom; on the other hand, our little corner is essentially unmoderated (and I don't feel like putting on my Archivist hat anytime soon), so it's not like we have a barrier for making new "off-topic" threads.

Seeing the idea, I'd toss a vote towards a separate thread in here, so we can more easily see it and it won't get buried in this thread.

My immediate thought is, "get some RPG Maker set up in here," but same as you I don't have the skills or programs to fiddle around with such a thing (if I even had the time to begin with) -- I'm not even sure it would work on my Linux machine.

You have a point there. I'm not sure if I stumbled in the same problem, but I can see how that would happen. (though I probably used most of the purple (standard) options, so no big loss there)

Kinda same? Honestly, I was more invested in seeing for myself the polyamorous route than in any of the two singular romances, though Meg is an absolute delight and has a great VA.

Asterius <3 Love how Zagreus interacts with the two champions of Elysium.

Speaking of Elysium, the Zagreus-supporting shade had my heart grow two sizes.

Big plus there as far as I'm concerned! Also, those cheeky "hints" toward BDSM :D

I absolutely ADORE the fact. Given how many voicelines each character has, no wonder that some VA got really invested :D

I don't entirely know what you mean by "zelda themed pokemon rom game", but the pokemon modding community is pretty dedicated so I don't think it should actually be that hard to realize in practice. Mostly a lot of spritework I'd imagine.

Well, a rom isn't that confusing.
But basically the idea being that it's a Pokemon game, with the Pokemon aesthetic, but with a region based on Hyrule.
With the player character being a Pokemon version of link, his childhood friend/rival being zelda, etc.
All the Pokemon are chosen to resemble creatures or lore from the Zelda series.

I'd absolutely love to see it realized, and hugely even the sprite work shouldn't be that complex since there's no major change in aesthetics, mostly laying out tile and stuff like that.
But I don't think I could find anyone to help me work on it. I don't even know where I'd start.

Well, the kinda-mute thing is a nice parallel with the earlier generations :D

Hey, everyone. I've been out of town most of the week, and I've had a nasty sore neck since Wednesday, so sorry I haven't been around or particularly responsive lately.

I hope things are going alright for everyone. I'm having a difficult time looking left or right, so...I've been better.

:/
