Thanks for the birthday wishes! Sorry, I've been kind of brain-burned from the start of this year, with both personal and world stressors. I think things are kind of settling down now, at least on the personal level, so hopefully I'll be able to be a bit more engaged going forward.

I believe Barinellos has the right of "Stan" and "Chad". I for one have never heard "Chad" be used 100% unironically for someone else (and he's right about how it's interpreted when used for self) but it's gotten a closer to that end than the opposite. Usually haven't seen it on its own, though, so much as in hyperbolic constructions ("MegaChad" "Level 500 GigaChad") that, while positive, are clearly intended to be at least somewhat humorous in how fawning they are.

I think Chad is weird because it is sometimes used to mock someone, while at the same time implying that the mocker would prefer to be in the Chad's position. As in, some guys hate Chads only because they are not Chads themselves.

I mean, it basically combines all the stereotypes of the high school football star as seen by the nerd, in that way? Condescending towards their perceived mental ability, yet envious of their success?

That's interesting. I don't think I've ever encountered either term.

To be fair, I'm basically just a crotchety old man who just wants all the young whippersnappers to stay off his lawn, so...

Lucky you.

what's wrong with chad
I think it's a funny meme, it's playful and absurdist, and like a million times better than wojaks which I hate

Unrelated but I'm loving the current anime season, there's shows to watch every day instead of them all being bundled up on the same one, and there's just a lot of shows I want to watch in general (including attack on titan). A lot of them are sequels though.

Heh, and you make yourself out to be some kind of lit chad. Do you even read lit?

Chad has graduated to a slang term. I actually here people say it. Whereas I don't even know what you mean when you mention "wojacks". I'm totally outside the meme verse.

Understandable, but when it comes to the original usage of chad and the most stanning in fandom I still maintain that ignorance is bliss :D

@TPmanW: I didn't know them by name either, but odds are you've seen dozens if not hundreds of them.

I can't imagine that many people in my region would Christen their child Chadwick. For one thing, I think you have to call your house an "estate" before you're allowed to do that.
... but yeah, I know a number of memes. I usually first notice them when I see people complaining about how overplayed they are or if they go super mainstream.
For instance, I know that a "wojack" is like a police officer for the Boros Legion. It's also a Polish family name if I'm not mistaken. And apparently a slang term, but I couldn't tell you if it's an insult or not.
The "iceberg" meme is one that puzzled me recently. I've seen a similar diagram or two without that terminology, but the first time I saw it in proper was the title of a Youtube vid "How deep does the Mario 64 Iceberg go?" or somesuch. I figured it was about one of the ice levels.

Notably, a ton of similar images that are riffs on the themes are referred to as "Wojaks"

I have managed to sleep worse than usual again this week, and on top of that some update to my computer broke both my magnification settings and my sound, so I'm just so defeated by all that all I feel is :rain:

Sorry to hear that, Luna. I hope things have turned around for you by now, or, if they haven't, that they will very shortly!

My boss is looking to bail. She hates living in the area (her husband's family largely to blame, but there are also other reasons.) Work is, as a consequence, in kind of a word place. She's out of town right now though, so not my problem

Actually, it's kind of ridiculous how much smoother things run when she just buggers off.

Same thing happening here, tho my boss is ill. Lately he's been taking work without making sure we can actually complete it on his terms, so not having him around is a relief for day-to-day activity.

I don't know whether I should wish your boss ollies outie. I mean, the devil you know and all...

Yeah, that's the catch 22
And any nearby managers in a position to fill the vacancy are largely known factors, but their behaviors... Could very well go differently.

My boss is ok. Some of my coworkers though are quite trying. One lady I work with has particular* demands of anybody working with her. These are unspoken demands. She is the least communicative person I know. Sometimes I spend more energy figuring out how to do my job without aggravating her than I do on actually doing my job. Asking about the subject garners extremely inconclusive results. As in she won't even acknowledge that I am speaking to her. It's been the biggest source of stress in my life since Covid. The biggest impact the pandemic has had on me is pissing off my coworkers.

*As in both unusual and precise.

Bluuuuuuuuugh. I have been dead the last two weeks.

I've been so incredibly exhausted lately that I can't even muster up emotions on a lot of days. On top of that I've been having so many issues with my tech that I've been feeling utterly defeated lately, too. I haven't even been interacting with friends because of all those tech issues; mostly spending time playing Hades.

I actually have thoughts about Hades, and I've recently finally read through all of Highschool of the Dead manga, which I have more thoughts on, but it's difficult to muster up the energy to actually write any of it down.

Today I've been feeling poorly because I got my second covid shot yesterday, so I've had the aftereffects of that wearing me out. It's been bearable most of the day, but I had a fairly high fever through the night that made sleep difficult and I don't want to take any medicine for it so that my immune system can mount the proper response.

I could offer advice but I feel like you got this and you really just need us to shut up, commiserate, and listen to you vent.
