Well, that's the end of Day 3.

Let's see who leads the vote count...

Oh! It's CL with 2 votes. Unfortunately, CL had activated his "Die Hard" ability last Night, which means he becomes lynchproof toDay and the person with the NEXT most number of votes is lynched instead. Let's see who that is...

JayDreven has been Lynched! He was National Fruitcake Day.

It's now Night. Send in your Night actions. Deadline is tomorrow at noon EST.

AND THAT'S THE GAME.

Night 3 CL killed Aaarrrgh, who was none other than the Winter Solstice, and then Day 4 either Monster would willingly be lynched because she believed the fake culting -OR- Monster and CL would push against each other with their votes and no one would be lynched and CL would kill Monster Night 4. Either way, CL wins.

MERRY ****' CHRISTMAS!

screw you other holidays.

CL was JD's Christmas Dethy
Role PM

JD was National Fruitcake Day, the Naive Cop
Monster was Ōmisoka (Japanese New Years Eve), the Paranoid Cop
KoD was Kwanzaa, the Random Cop
Tevish was Hanukkah, the Insane Cop
Argh was Winter Solstice, the Sane Cop

Hope y'all enjoyed this holiday rag-tag-bag of a game. Happy New Year!

I had this pegged d2 and y'all just let me hang. Honestly I'd be less salty if Aaarrrgh and JD had voted, even against me.

Though honestly I'm not actually salty; this was a decent game. Thanks for hosting, Zinger.

I had planned to deadline snipe a vote at CL for a no lynch but got busy at work and just barely missed the deadline. Best laid plans and all that I suppose.

@Zinger, was JDCD also fake claimed Festivus or did you add that after I pre game claimed?

I know it's your role pm, what I mean is was it already planned to be that or did he make it that after my pre-game claim (which he would have had plenty of time to do).

I didn't firmly decide what holidays to actually put in the game until I was sending out role PMs, so yeah, Festivus was technically "decided" as CL's fake claim after your pre-game claim was made, though I did have it on my list of holiday options that I had made before your pre-game claim.

Yeah, I think I might stop away from playing for a while. As I mentioned, I feel like this community has become more about clever game design that fun and balanced gameplay. We solved this game perfectly, but still lost because scum was ridiculously overpowered in ways we had no way of predicting. I just want to play Mafia, but I feel like around here the only way to get to do that is to also play other games which I'm not interested in at the same time.

You didn't all lose. CL won. Or do you think that because he was scum he wasn't supposed to have a fair shot at winning?

To be fair, Tevish is right, the fact that JD and you both let him hang Day 2 without nary a word is really what put the nail in your coffin, not anything to do with the design.

But eh. This response reeks of sore loserism. You try designing a balanced game for 6 players. It's not easy. If CL didn't have, as you put it, "ridiculously overpowered" abilities, he wouldn't have had any chance of winning at all. In fact, during the game, Cl complained to me that he didn't feel he was powerful enough and that he was sure to lose soon. "Balance" is about making things fair for both sides, and when it's 5 players against 1 you have to make the 1 player O.P., by comparison, to balance it out.

That said, you're right about one thing, this game was designed on the fly and I gave little thought to balance. I wouldn't call it clever design by any means, though. It was more about giving you all something fun to do over the holidays since the annual Christmas Dethy ended too early. I guess I would say "you're welcome" for getting two holiday dethy games this year, but then, you clearly didn't enjoy the experience, so... Maybe not.

You're free to design the next one if you want to show the rest of us how it's done.

To me, the basic point of dethy is the logic puzzle. Scum wins by picking their lies well and quickly identifying the Santas who post a threat (the same and insane) and removing them before there is enough evidence against them. When I sign up for a dethy game, that's what I expect. I certainly don't expect scum to win by getting lynched.

Of course the Tevish lynch was bad, but he himself had argued that we should 50/50 him and CL. His death have is the info we needed to find scum. The only reason it was a losing proposition was because of the unexpected abilities scum had. I will admit that I (like JD) missed deadline, and I might have tried to save Tevish if I had been present. But I honestly might not have. I had no reason to believe that he was a bad lynch based on the info I had. If I had saved him it would have been only on the principle that I believe dethy only needs a single shot.

It's just a game.

Let's just play and have fun with each other.

I want to, really. But it's not that simple. Imagine that someone invited you for a game night. That's cool. You're playing Yahtzee. You like Yahtzee, so this should be a good time. But when you start playing, you find out that they are using different scoring rules than you're used to. But that's okay, you can adapt. So you play along as best you can, and you actually have some fun along the way. And then finally, you do it. You get the Yahtzee!

...except then they tell you that because your Yahtzee was five ones, the points actually go to another player. They just forgot to give you that detail when they explained the rules. Oops.

That's how this game made me feel. And yeah, sure, it's just a game. But it's not the game I thought I was playing.

What part of "JD's Christmas Dethy has a variety of abilities designed to fool you into lynching the wrong target" led you to believe that you were playing standard Dethy?

Unlike your example, we were told to expect the Krampus to have a variety of abilities meant to confuse and beat us. I'd say Zinger delivered on that.

In essence, CL outplayed the town. It happens.

As was identified earlier, had Tevish been saved (whether by CL getting lynched or a tie vote causing a no lynch), then the outcome of the game would have been different.

Zinger did not straight up lie to all of us that participated. It's not like Zinger didn't give us any kind of info to go on.

In short, it is that simple. Sometimes you win. Sometimes you lose.

If YOU are unhappy, then sure, adjust yourself to what is occurring. Game comes up that is not your cup of tea? Don't /in. Wait for one that is, or make your own. Nothing is stopping you.
