I know we already touched on the two new planeswalkers in other threads, but I wanted to consolidate all the Kaldheim info we have.

WELCOME TO THE FACE MELTING WORLD OF KALDHEIM confirms Kaya and Tibalt are returning. It also gives us our first looks into the world with an art drop. (It's also written in an incredibly fellowkids way)

The two new planeswalkers are Tyvar Kell and Niko Aris.

We should get some more story information on Wednesday.

------------------

It'll be interesting to see how they get Kaya and Tibalt on Kaldheim from their ending positions in Forsaken and Chandra's comic respectively.

Tibalt needs relatively little push to appear anywhere.
Kaya likely will have to go through a few more hoops since she had like three groupies hanging on to her.

Responding to each piece of art:

1) This must be the cosmos serpent Koma, as mentioned in Tyvar's article. Probably not a literal Koma card, though, given that the sword is the main subject of the painting.
2) We've seen this before, but I still love it. Kaya's hairdo is great, and the ornate bearded axes with the purple glow just look sweet.
3) This one's pretty boring.
4) Someone suggested that these are dwarves, but it's hard to tell in a world full of bearded buff people. Regardless, something sinister is going on here and it looks sweet.
5) At first I thought this was an elemental or golem, but that looks like actual skin under the armor. Maybe a giant or troll? Also sweet.
6) Wolf cult?
7) Well this is cool.
8) Well THIS is cool. Damn. Obvious Yggdrasill vibes, and just stellar (pun intended) execution. I love it.
9) I grew up in the Pacific Northwest and spent a lot of time around snowy pine trees. Needless to say, I love a good snowy forest, and this depiction is beautiful. There's also something magical going on with that light, because that is not a normal sun shape.
10) Another beautiful forest scene. God, I'm getting spoiled with the land art in this set.

I am very much looking forward to seeing more! Can't wait for card previews tomorrow.

Apparently that wolf-cult image is actually the look of Kaldheim's version of changelings!

I wonder if the Loki analogue is the god. Certainly a weird take.

Nah, Loki wears green all the time. :D
Actually I do think it makes sense given his role in Ragnarok. There's a sense of fatalism and predestination in Norse mythology that plays strongly into green philosophy.

I like the aesthetic of the changelings.
I don't like the name Axgard.

Axgard does kinda just sound like a bad pun on Asgard. (Even though it serves a different role here.)

For anyone out of the loop, we just got a bunch of previews through this article on cards that won't be in draft boosters.

Or you can just go to http://mythicspoiler.com/newspoilers.html to see everything previewed over the last couple of days.

I like the look of ritualist. I don't like that it implies we're in another tribal episode.

We are definitely in another tribal set. We have WB Angels, BG Elves, RW Dwarves, UR Giants, and GU Shapeshifters so far. We have Berserker references in BR but Berserker may be five-color Vikings.

It could be played off as the inhabitants of each of the nine realms at war.

I know changelings are probably mostly here as a mechanical role player but I am wondering if they're supposed to be like a representation of the animal clothing magic in Norse myth, like the ulfsark and berserkr and feather cloaks. Are they originally humans underneath who are lost in the animal magic?

True.

Tricksters are also not entirely foreign to (Xenagos, Oko, most ouphes...)

I have to admit: I wasn't expecting Norse Lorwyn when the set was announced.

I'm always on board for changeling. They should also play pretty well into Zendikar's party mechanic.

They revealed the first of the gods, Halvar, God of Battle. Halvar has no inherent immortality ability, which fits what I discussed in the elf thread here. The current gods are just another race (former humans?) that rose to power and godhood is less vast divine power and more a title and access to sweet weapons.

It'd be funny if the tribal component is the residents of each of the nine realms fighting each other and the gods are part of that and there's god/demigod tribal.

I like that we're seeing some nice low cmc angels. The lack thereof has been the thorn in the side of many a tribal player.
The artifact-loving dwarves are as welcome as they were expected.
Blue giants is pretty cool. I'm loving the one that can fling when it attacks. The command magic that has to be enchanting a giant you control to work is cool too.
Are elves going to be all about death and tokens?
What's up with the shapeshifters? Are there only a few or do they get full faction support?
Does every color pair get a tribe or are some archetypes not creature based?

This also seems to confirm there are many gods for each color, unless Reidane and Alrund were red herrings.

I guess they got tired of ripping off Marvel and decided it was time to rip off DC, so Tibalt had his personality wiped and replaced with The Joker. He's gone from some little weirdo who just wants to torture people in his basement for fun without the cops showing up to an apocalyptic villain trying to destroy entire planes for "chaos" or something.

I've always seen him as being pretty close to the joker in terms of personality. What he lacked previously was means and opportunity.

Yeah, he was always a twisted soul. He was only ever a low-ranking serial killer when he wasn't a planeswalker. Now that he is he's a more effective threat, and even then only here because there's a clear pathway in the form of the sword.

I'm not really a comic book guy, but isn't Joker kind of a mid-grade crook and occassional terrorist, largely restrained from more by his lack of superpowers? Other than one arc where he gains some weird absolute godlike powers? ("Emperor Joker" I think I've heard it called). Seems kind of apt.
