If you're in the US please vote if your government allows you.
It could be your last chance.

democracy has always been more farcial than not probably, although the republicans have the courts pretty stacked right now so i guess if they're going to try something flashy it could be now

I feel like American democracy in particular is pretty weak. There is a very strong authoritarian streak in parts of America. The plantation owner elitist culture never really died out in many parts of the country. They fought against democracy after the revolution and they remain antithetical to the tenents of democracy today, and they still hold significant sway.

I sincerely doubt that. With 2020 being 2020 we won't know for at least a few days as the mail-ins are counted, and BS (like state legislatures sending electors in defiance of the public vote) could still be pulled until mid december when the EC makes the final judgment. Assuming it's not just sent to the Supreme Court.

I'm saying that if it's not at least a 10 point spread win for Biden right out of the gate then I'd take that as America doesn't mind surrendering freedoms

Looking like a possible narrow win however it goes. Though I do disagree with the strong Biden win as a sign we are unwilling to give up our freedoms. As for whether the reasons we feel we are giving them up the other way around are justified I'd at least entertain a debate on.

trump is actively trying to disenfranchise large bodies of people but the freedom to vote isn't the only freedom

most people believe in restricting at least some freedoms (the freedom to kill, the freedom to steal), and there are others which are gray zones for people (the freedom to do drugs, the freedom to own deadly weapons).

Within that grey zone biden and trump are probably in support of restricting/supporting different freedoms.

both probably support actions which restrict freedoms in ways i would consider nearly unanimously condemnable (supporting slave labour among domestic criminals and foreign workers, suppressing civil freedoms in foreign countries by installing or supporting dictators, preventing workers from unionizing, etc.)

Trump noteably threatens the democratic process a lot more than biden does probably, which a lot of people probably see as a very important freedom.

He also sent federal ICE officers in to assault, kidnap, and detain protesters in the wake of police killings of unarmed black men.
