It's also your seventh anniversary of NGA membership. Kinda crazy that we've been hanging around here for so long.

Oh, man, it is, isn't it? I completely forgot about that. I was the 15th person to join after the White Blight, and had the first ever post in the Flavor and Storyline. This place has been a huge part of my life for seven years. I really miss our missing friends, but I do love you folks who are still around!

I like to think that all 10,000 posts I've made have been filled to the brim with deep, philosophical insight and thought-provoking wisdom. To illustrate this point, I have selected three of my old posts at random. Enjoy!

I should congratulate you as well. It's... I was honestly quite surprised that NGA has been around for 7 years. I think most M:EMbers I have considered part of my close friend circle for about a decade and a half, but I always kind of look back on our time as if a majority of it was on the old Mothership, and I don't think that's the case anymore. Or, at least, it's rapidly approaching untrue territory. (I know at least two of you hail from the older Phyrexia forums, but I wasn't there at the time. so I can only speak for my experience.)

I also wanted to explain my general absence these last few weeks.

To make a long story short, back on Labor Day, a guy trespassed onto my property, punched me, and then came around again later acting even more suspicious, talking about things in a way like he was casing the joint. I ended up going to the police and pressing charges. I got a picture to them and they identified him -- implying that he's had run-ins with the law before -- and I know there's a warrant out for his arrest, so I hope the matter is settled.

All the same, I was, without exaggeration, a nervous wreck for the better part of a week while it was happening. I had more trouble sleeping, I felt nauseous whenever I ate (no matter what I ate), my heart was always beating fast and at times I even got light-headed. I was simply not in any frame of mind to stop by here for idle chit-chat.

Wow, Luna. That's...heavy. I'm so sorry that you've had to go through that. That is all kinds of messed up, and I really hope that you're doing better. I know we say this sort of thing all the time, and I know you know it, but always feel free to send a PM just, you know, venting, or whatever you need to do.

Yeah, we're here for you bud. We try not to pressure anybody into feeling like they have to explain anything, but first and foremost we're here to listen if life ever becomes that extra bit much.

Okay, so...

I have something to say. It's not easy for me, but I think the time has finally come.

See, ever since Aaarrrgh pointed out yesterday that it's been seven years that we've been here, I was trying to think about how to "commemorate" the anniversary. I don't have the time (or the brain-space, frankly) right now to write a story or even a poem. So, after thinking about it, I think it's time to make a confession.

Now, I know that I often start off posts in similar ways to set up some convoluted pun or reference or something, but this in not one of those. This is an actual confession of something that I've done, and something that, potentially, might hurt some feelings. I want to stress that that was never the intention; what I did was meant as a little joke that blew up out of proportion. It's a secret I've been keeping from you for about six and a half years at this point, and it's because I didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings. In retrospect, I probably should have ripped the band-aid off a long, long time ago, but I'm going to do it now.

Again, if what I'm about to say hurts anyone's feelings, I really, really apologize. That was not the intention, either in the original act, or keeping it to myself for so long. I love you guys, and wouldn't do anything to intentionally hurt you.

Nice thinking about the commenting buNp, btw. Reminds me I'm awfully behind with the shared stories, and I promised myself I'd try the current build of CKY's game sooner rather than later...

...then to make things harder some stupid legal crap happened, and I'm currently learning how not to delve more than it's useful on it, not an easy task for a big worrier like me.

...I was not expecting that, Raven. It all makes a lot of sense, though, and I'm instantly willing to forgive. Heck, if anything I agree with Huey, is good to know that the mind behind those stories isn't lost to us. It's also such a classic comedic plot that I'm glad to have been part of it.

Thinking back on it, that explanation makes so much sense. I mean, the avatar alone was really, really too on-the-nose to be genuinely sincere; I always suspected someone was playing a persona, but I didn't expect it to be one of our own!

Then again, I am incredibly gullible and have never been able to pick up on even really obvious alt accounts.

But really, I was smiling the whole way through reading that, because, what a magnificent con! And not only that, it was you -- as in, you're not lost! You're still here! Not only did we not lose a magnificent writer to the vast and infinite net, but we can also accept those works into our canon now, if you're amenable to it. I'd even suggest leaving them under the Disguised Goblin name, since we're a purely literary group and history has had many famous pen names and pseudonyms, such as Lewis Carroll and Mark Twain.

While we're on the topic of smurf accounts:

I, to this day, have no clue who Oso del Diablo was.
But I'm glad they were generally always up for whatever stupidity I dragged them into.

Honestly, Barinellos NOT being Oso del Diablo is possibly more surprising than Raven being DisGo.

Thanks for your support, everyone, and for your kind words. I'm glad that nobody seems to be too upset about the whole thing. Admittedly, the person whose feelings I thought were most likely to be hurt by this isn't with us anymore, but you never know how people react to things. I'm glad I told you, and I'm glad it doesn't seem to have bothered people too much.

What can I say? I don't drink or do drugs, so comments on my stuff is my fix, I guess! :)

And yeah, I really need to get to CKY's game soon, too. It's just so hard finding time this semester. Maybe this weekend I'll try to carve out an hour or two to see how far I can get.

...then to make things harder some stupid legal crap happened, and I'm currently learning how not to delve more than it's useful on it, not an easy task for a big worrier like me.

Oh, dear. Well, I hope everything is alright!

Aaarrrgh wrote:

I wasn't either, really. I didn't expect it at the time, nor did I ever expect to reveal DisGo's deep, dark secret.

I appreciate you saying that. I've felt pretty badly about it for a long time, so it's good to get it off my chest, so to speak.

@Raven
HAHAHAHA

Thinking back on it, that explanation makes so much sense.

Yeah, it was a very odd and specific chain of events, and as these things tend to do, it just kept snowballing as it went along. Seriously, that feeling when I accidentally posted the reply, from the wrong account, to Barinellos's comment that led to "Birthright?" Well, it reminds me of the Red Hot Chili Peppers's song "Under the Bridge" - "I don't ever wanna feel like I did that day."

I mean, the avatar alone was really, really too on-the-nose to be genuinely sincere; I always suspected someone was playing a persona, but I didn't expect it to be one of our own!

I was thinking through this yesterday, trying to remember what led me to that specific card art. I know I was looking for a goblin that was looking directly at the "camera," as it were. I cannot remember now if the other goblin in the piece entered into the equation at first or not, but I imagine it amused me as much then as it does now.

Then again, I am incredibly gullible and have never been able to pick up on even really obvious alt accounts.

If it's really obvious, I have a chance of getting it. Otherwise, I need somebody to slip up like I did and post something from the wrong account, which I believe two different mods have done around here? I think. Of course, in both cases, the names pointed fairly directly to the person.

Again, thank you. You guys are very kind. The DisGo stories were already canon because "he" released them to the M:EM, but you are right that it feels like they're more "in the fold" now than before. Still, I doubt I'll do anything with either story. I feel like any kind of follow-up to "The Pinch" would just cheapen it, and I wouldn't want to do that. I'm not terribly interested in continuing the story of Dhuiran and Arran myself, although the Blade That Cuts Infinity was Barinellos's creation, so knowing that these characters are options (they were anyway, but even if the story is "Open," it's harder for people to grab the reins when the author's gone) maybe Barinellos will decide to write a new chapter in the Blade's history.

And yes, even though people now know that DisGo is me, I would like to keep those two stories as authored by "Disguised Goblin." He was a fun character to play. I can now add them to my "Stark Raven Mad" thread, though!

It's a nice landmark! Good to see everyone around and happy celebrations for Raven.

Thanks, Tevish!

I can say, definitively and honestly, that I am NOT Oso del Diablo.

Right? I figured it was either Barinellos or Keeper, but I feel like Keeper specifically said "no" when asked about it. I might be mis-remembering, though.

Anyway, I don't have time right now, but maybe sometime over the next couple of days, I'll put together a little compilation of the hints I dropped about DisGo's true identity... :D

I looked back, and most of the suspects denied being behind it. Keeper is probably the most likely, though.

HWAT

That was, like, the ONE thing I was sure of. Oso del Diablo never seemed to be around when you weren't.

Mind = blown

Again, thank you. You guys are very kind. The DisGo stories were already canon because "he" released them to the M:EM, but you are right that it feels like they're more "in the fold" now than before. Oh, yeah, I forgot about that. In my defense, it has been 6 years, so I was sitting here thinking they'd never been voted in.

----

Changing subjects, I randomly happened across this as I was looking for RPG prompts (for reasons), and thought it might be somewhat interesting to people around here. There's this project called The Wagadu Chronicles that seems to be half-5e supplement, half-MMO project that's currently on Kickstarter, but they've got free 200-page lore book for 5e as part of the Kickstarter campaign that you can download and read.

What really makes it interesting is that it's Afro-fantasy, so you've got all of these really unique concepts like a "devil" that's a twisted human form with eyes on its fee that walks on its hands, or the "races" including people with moth antennae. I think it's worth looking up to get some creative worldbuilding juices flowing, if nothing else.
