Revelations Block
Revelations · Set 1 of 3
Here is a short summary of the context where the set takes place.
Year 0 d.p.Juliadna, the most powerful oracle in the world in those times, predicted the end of the world would take place in 5 years. She couldn't specify how it would happen, but only that it was related to the birth of a baby.
At that moment, the world came together to try to stop the end of the world. In the following few years, every effort was devoted to developing technologies to more accurately predict the future, advanced construction techniques were developed to protect citizens from any threat, and many warriors learned secret arts to combat the end of the world.
On the other hand, a different group of people, resigned that they were not going to be able to save the world, dedicated their efforts to discover a new world in which to survive. This is how they discovered the Ætherworld, a parallel dimension to which they could escape. In the Ætherworld, time flowed in a different way, and the people who entered it, once they left, never remembered what had happened. Nor could you stay in that place for a long time for some reason
Year 4 d.p.Juliadna, who was leading a research group to improve future predictions, meets a member of the Ætherworld scouting party (both factions cooperated and shared information, even if their goals weren't aligned). They fall in love, get married and Juliadna becomes pregnant. At 8 months of pregnancy, she has vision again. Their child will be the one to bring the end of the world. Desperate to protect her son, but also to save the world, she decides with her husband to escape to the Ætherworld, but not before generating a great commotion in the world.
Year 5 d.p.Juliadna and her husband return to the world from the Ætherworld. They both lost their lives, but there is no trace of the baby.
The world, after being saved, has knowledge and tools that surpass everything that was previously considered possible.
Year 128 d.p.Over the past 100 years many wars have been fought using the technologies discovered, and these technologies have evolved to unimaginable levels.
During this year, there is a new prophecy. A self-proclaimed god promises the existence of the perfect world. Who this god is is not known, but many believe his word.
Year 632 d.p.In the world there are Oracles, Architects and Judges (OAJ) who are the ones who govern by a self-proclaimed right.
Oracles have the ability to see the future in dreams and materialize it by using their third eye.
The Judges are charged with "maintaining order" in society, exterminating anyone who causes riots. Their power is superior to that of any other being in the world.
About 500 years ago, a god promised the arrival of the perfect world. OAJs seek to turn their world into the perfect world by modifying time and dimensions.
Much of the world they live in is shaped like a huge maze, and its shape changes the way the Architects want. In this way, the Architects shape the world, based on the visions of the Oracles, so that it is the way they want. By arranging the mazes as they wish, they can avoid encounters between people who were "destined" to meet, where the outcome of the encounter would not favor them. They can also get people to go where they want and modify the escape routes of those fleeing from the Judges. The walls of the maze measure approximately 100 meters, so inside it it seems that it is always night. The only light comes from torches and others artificial devices. The width of the corridors can range from 20 meters to 200 meters. People often live within the walls of the maze, but when these move they must leave their "homes" because they may become trapped forever within them.
Mazes can be created on almost any surface (valleys, deserts, forests, etc.), and their composition varies from place to place).
In places where there are no mazes such as the interior of the seas (on the coasts and surroundings there are different kinds of mazes) or the tops of the mountains, ferocious creatures often inhabit, making it almost impossible to settle there.
There are also several groups that oppose the dominance of the OAJ. The members of the larger group are known as Phantasm Drifters because they have the ability to use secret passages to the Ætherworld that can be found throughout the world and move out of the reach of the Judges through them. These passages are invisible to the eye and do not occupy a place in space. They are rather portals that through the Ætherworld link different parts of the world. Drifters can sense the location of these portals and can open them whenever they need to. The practice of travel through portals is prohibited by the OAJ.
Although their goal is the same as that of the OAJ, to reach the perfect world, they believe that the way to obtain it is to accept the world they have and wait for the god to guide them to a new world. They believe that the actions of the OAJ are going to infuriate the god because they try to imitate him and thus thwart the arrival of the new world.
While Drifters oppose OAJs, they do so in very different ways. Some aim to assassinate all the Architects and Oracles (facing the Judges would be useless because they could never defeat them) and in this way stop the alteration of the world. These go to extreme points such as the use of terrorism and the generation of chaos (although there are other more subtle ones that do not cause harm in vain). Another group refuses to murder indiscriminately and tries to convince the OAJ to join them and stop their practices (many times, members of the same family can be OAJ or Drifters), or although they confront each other, they try to thwart their plans and take away their powers (an Architect who does not have an Oracle does not present a great threat, since he cannot make strategic decisions).
