I’m curious how this will rate in limited. Ability gives it late game value, but starting out as a 1/1 seems notably worse than Devkarin Dissident, that was playable in its set. 1/1 goes to 4/4 cheaper and is better late game with multiple pumps boosting more while costing less, but bear is better early game.

I’d say early game value would be high if going this into a 2cmc mutate creature, but in limited it will be hard to have that happen with any regularity. I can’t see this rating super highly, but curious how playable it will be.



Is it just me or is there a notably high number of 3/3s for 3 this set?



This looks great in limited. Thinking it shouldn’t be difficult to have this be a 1 mana divination in your average limited pool. Even floor divination is playable, but ceiling play this with extra mana available to play out what you draw sounds niiiice

Does this make every counter an actual counter spell?

Seems like it, but I think it may be too expensive to be playable. Forces 3 color deck, costs 4 to cast, mostly does nothing the turn it comes into play, etc...

Seems like you could do something disgusting with it. You could have a good number of cards in GY through self milling and a mana dork on board T4 to play this + cheat out a big spell same turn. Once it’s out, it would function like Fires in a way, where you can be playing out multiple big mana spells per turn, as long as you can keep fueling the GY.

Mana is demanding but they’re printing tri-color lands and peeps already running some 3 color decks in standard without them. Maybe better for older formats, but it looks like the type of card folks will try to break.

Unless it allows you to replace colored portion of the mana costs, I don’t see how this gets too broken. Any ideas what spells you’d use it to cast?

I’d have to give it some thought for how a build around it would look. But you’ll have colored mana on board - you can use this to just pay the colorless costs and still cheat out an extra spell or two per turn. Fires crushes you with tempo this way. This is more demanding in that it’s both harder to cast than fires and doesn’t erase the color requirements of subsequent spells, but unlike fires there’s no restrictions for playing on your own turn and being strictly limited to 2 spells per.

Not sure which direction would be the best to go, but just off the dome - with 5 lands on board plus 6 cards in the yard, you could T5 Agent of Treachery plus Thassa.

How about Henge? Or any of the legendary artifacts. This makes Henge effectively free.

Tri lands is so frigging HUGE too.
