Argh it's that time of the year when I don't want to brew, don't have updated decks to play constructed with, and limited is too time-consuming. ****.

Someone give me a reasonable competitive deck to play BO1 unranked with while I wait for the constructed meta to shake out ...

Couple of state-of-standard articles:

http://magic.tcgplayer.com/db/article.a ... =1-24-2020
https://www.channelfireball.com/all-str ... 1579722852

Definitely tempted by the new Simic Ramp lists right now, they seem rather linear though and cannot remove opponent's engines, e.g. I got wiped out by a Torbran one game, and Nightpack Ambushers another game.

Azorius control seems to be making a comeback.. durdle around for a while and then play that Baneslayer Owl with on-demand hexproof.

Bo1 is a total mess, whatever I do is wrong ;)

**** the meta. Go big or go home.

I'm never going to be a mythic player, so I don't bother with the meta. I just build aggro stuff and smash away. Good times.

Then you should play in mythic - it's a total aggro / jank fest.... it feels like most people don't care...

This took 2nd place in a tournament held by Aether Hub. I think it’s more interesting than simic ramp...

Deck's called Sultai graveyard, has exactly one graveyard card (polukranos) :P

As a sidenote, CGB needs to go all in on the clickbait titles, right now it's just your run of the mill generic clickbait stuff - boring right?

Now imagine if the title was "YOU WON'T BELIEVE WHAT CARDS WON THIS TOURNAMENT! NUMBER 4 WILL SHOCK YOU" I'd click that in a heartbeat!

Bonus points if the 4th card was actually shock

It also has Uro, and Tamiyo works the graveyard too.

Lololol on his titles. He’s dips into minor clickbatey titles now and again (IIRC he got a little cringey with some titles a few months back but reigned it in). He needs to take notes from NicolaiBolas to up his clickbate game - I watch some of his limited content, and his titling format is legit capslock [SET]+[FORMAT]!!! IS [DRAFTED ARCHTYPE] THE [SUPERLATIVE] EVER???

I have had success with Azorius....but it is Azorius bounce. IMO, the control version is probably better, but bounce is more fun.

Actually, more of a flicker then bounce deck. I guess my old mind is stuck in the Man O War days :P

Basically, from memory it runs Flibithwhatever, Charming Prince, Deputy of Detention, Guardmage, U and W Cavaliers, Thassa, and Agent of Treachery, Tefari and Timewipes. 25 land. Also a few flex spots that are currently Dovian Veto, but have tried Forbidding Spirit (Great vs Embercleave, esp with Thassa) and a few other things. Weak vs Flash decks, but okay vs most others. A bit vulnerable vs aggro, but depends on draws. Some games I get wrecked vs aggro, and others they don't stand a chance. Basically buy time early and out value late. Once Agent hits, especially w/ Thassa Out, most people scoop. I feel it needs some tweeks to be very good, but it is possible that I have hit a ceiling with it. I have tried the U/G version, but I miss having the interaction of Timewipes, Deputy and W Cavalier. Need a man o war or reflector mage to really make the deck shine.

So this Azorious deck is pretty much cancer. The combo of Narset and Teferi really just sucks the fun right out of the game. What are some of the most effective hate strategies if you're in simic/temur? I'm running a simic ramp deck with uro and nyxborn ancient + a small red splash for Omnath and Purph's intervention as a wincon. I was also considering how to implement a mill sideboard plan as an alternate wincon. What would some options be for that? Specifically, are there any cards in standard that relate creature power to milling, like Altar of Dementia?

I dislike this meta, it's either mono red aggro or UW Prison, err, control (it's a prison deck though imo - teferi/narset lockout looped with Elspeth). So far I'm struggling to get to mythic this season, since I prefer midrange and really don't want to play either deck.

Simic ramp was my first attempt, but I couldn't make it good enough against both decks even after sideboard. My best decks currently are Sultai Mid and a Bant Ramp list that's not running the Elspeth enchant out of pure stubbornness. The key interactions from what I can see are: Discard, Teferi, Enchantment hate, graveyard hate, flying blockers (iffy).

So my Bant list runs in the main 4 teferi, 4 krasis, 4 nissa (pressuring pws). Sideboarding in 2 heliod's interventon, 2 3 mana Ashiok, and various counters (veto+dispute). The Elspeth enchant would make the deck stronger. Main focus is to heliod the enchants/exile gys with multiple pws in and grind them out.

My sultai list runs main 2/2 split remorse/erasure, 1-2 Liliana, 4 casualties and 1 Jace for the self-mill win. Sideboarding in 2 erasure, 2 remorse, 2 unmoored, counters and .....2 Thought Distortion.

That last card has me pretty much convinced to focus on Sultai, it's horrendously powerful against azorious. Especially if you're casting it on turn 4! I'm tempted to up the number, but the sideboard needs to answer more than just uw.

I'd say the bant list is more generally powerful since it gets to run unconditional sweepers and Dream Trawler, but it's a worse UW deck in that matchup that occasionally nut draws a ton of ramp.

I can copy paste the lists if you want, though they're pretty much built for preference/trying out new cards not for maximum efficiency (e.g the sultai list runs no nissas, opting for 2 5 mana ashioks cos they're new and shiny).

Thanks for the info. I wonder if anyone has ever graphed the progression of metas over time (e.g., the preponderance of bant, sultai, azorious, etc). I suspect we would see some patterns. This is reminding me of the other Teferi meta when I ran as many removal/interaction spells as I could fit out of frustration. Got me to diamond, so hey. I'm still interested in playing around with Temur colors – maybe pushing the mill angle. It seems Wizards has trended away from printing cards that mill the opponent, tho. Self-mill or mutual mill seems to be more predominant.

Well if you want temur there's always Temur Reclamation with nightpack ambushers and siding in the protection from blue charger. It's a stupidly powerful deck even against control and you get to collect free wins against anyone who dares to midrange. Just need to survive the aggro.

World Championships going on right now with exactly four archetypes among 16 players: Jund Sacrifice, Azorius control, Temur Reclamation, and Monored aggro. Jund sacrifice has only one player too.

I wonder what happened to the Simic lists that were so hyped early.
