A few years ago, Barinellos threw out a gauntlet in, well, the gauntlet thread. That challenge, found here, was to write something in the style of Space: The Convergence.

Aaarrrgh wrote two very interesting dossiers, one for Renn Winmoore and one for Vasilias.

For really no reason whatsoever, I decided to write a re-skin of some of our characters in the style of Space: The Convergence. This is really just one scene, but if people have any interest in this, I might write more at some later date.

Anyway, enjoy!

Good stuff. I always meant to do more with Space: the Convergence and never got to it. I'm really glad to see someone else picked it up! And Jackie is a great character to move to the setting. Although she would probably be great in any setting, to be honest.

I mean, obviously I'm interested. I threw the gauntlet after all.

Ha! It took me a few lines to recognize Braxian's name. It's always cool to have characters details dropped in random pieces - I'm not sure we knew Scar's hair color. It also intrigues me that I remember you not being a fan of the most tech Mtg planes, like Kaladesh, but also liking the alternative sci-fi version of the setting so much.

I had forgotten about Space: the Convergence entirely, I'm ashamed to say. Some of my characters (Jack above all) would take well to it, I think.

Thank you for sharing!

There's always time. And honestly, this story really just caught me on a whim. I was watching something SciFi and the image of Scar bursting through a futuristic door and blasting away with ray guns flashed through my mind. Of course, funnily, I don't even get to Scar (or "Star," in this world) in this story, but I just wanted to post the concept.

I know I had fun porting Madame Jacqueline DeCoeur to Thorneau. :)

Thanks for reading, Aaarrrgh!

Well, feel free to join in, if you want to. There are some of your characters that I think would be very interesting to AU on over to S:tC.

Ha! It took me a few lines to recognize Braxian's name.

Yeah, this is not a perfect 1:1 swap from canon details, but then, that would be boring, wouldn't it? So now good ol' Brax is a military commander who had run-ins with former-space-bandit-turned-??? "Red Dwarf" Jackie.

It's always cool to have characters details dropped in random pieces - I'm not sure we knew Scar's hair color.

Huh. I thought I had dropped that factoid somewhere, but I can't find it in any of the Scar stories I've written. So I guess that's a thing. So yeah, in my mind, Scar's blonde.

It also intrigues me that I remember you not being a fan of the most tech Mtg planes, like Kaladesh, but also liking the alternative sci-fi version of the setting so much.

I can see where that seems contradictory, but to me, it's a fairly simple thing. I don't like high-tech planes in fantasy settings. I like to keep swords and sorcery in fantasy and lasers and spaceships in SciFi. But I do like SciFi in and of itself. So the thing I find appealing about Space: the Convergence is that it's just a SciFi setting. It's just a reimagining of what we know as MTG thought of in SciFi terms rather than fantasy. Planeswalkers aren't going to show up here; people aren't going to cast spells. So I do kind of like S:tC as a setting, divorced from M:tG.

Though I wouldn't say I like the setting "so much," necessarily. Enough to try it out, sure, or to reskin some M:EM stuff in a SciFi vein from time to time. But don't expect too much from me...FROM SPACE!!!

:D

I mean, it's not like it comes up very often, so I don't think weird to have forgotten about it. I only really remembered it by looking through the Gauntlet thread.

Thank you for sharing!

Thanks for reading!
