Yeah my impression is if there's a third deck that can "outvalue" (read: go into the late-game without automatically losing) against the Field of the Dead decks, it's Fires - mainly because they have a ton of sweepers to stall the board, planeswalkers that can keep up in value, and Cavalier of Gales to fly over for lethal (can be pumped by the red Cavalier too).

Are you playing BO1 or BO3, Yondar?

EDIT: I feel like we're at the point where the Golos decks start running cards for the mirror in the maindeck. Cards like Agent of Treachery for example is a pretty reasonable card against most of the field, and it's amazing in the mirror, so why not play some. It's also awfully hard to rush down the ramp deck. They can quite consistently start generating zombies by turns 5-6. Unless your creatures have some way to avoid getting chumped, you are going to lose eventually. I'm also thinking it's time to play Time Wipe instead of Realm-Cloaked Giant - the no-Giant clause is significant against certain cards, and the big difference (against control decks) is barely a problem since the zombies will grind out control no problem.

Some cards that I've run into that have been very effective against Golos:

Agent of Treachery
Questing Beast
Vivien, Arkbow Ranger - reusable trample source. It's kind of hard for them to attack Vivien away.
Yorvo, Lord of Garenbrig - it can be chumped but in combination with Vivien it's given me trouble: it gets really big really quickly. This is why I'm thinking of running Time Wipe as the sweeper.

Other cards:

Ethereal Absolution - Two of these actually destroy the deck, even one copy should be very effective. The problem, of course, is that they're going to be sideboarding in enchantment hate once they see it, and if neither of you draw the sideboard card they're still going to win. Hell, they could draw their sideboard card and you not draw Absolution (i.e. they have dead card in hand), and they'll probably win anyway.
Legion's End - Based on theory this should be good, but it's only going to enable one attack; I've never seen the Golos deck run out of gas.
Casualties of War - okay, but who can cast this before they start making zombies?

I am seeing Casualties as a SB card for Fires decks. Use Fairy to get it on first cast, and then Casualties for second cast.

I have to admit, Fires is better then I originally thought.

Also have seen a Fires deck that uses the 6 mana dragon to get colored pairs for card draw. Not sure I liked the cost, but interesting take on it. I also have seen fires decks that run Field of the dead. I mean, you have an odd mana bases anyway, why not try and get value from you land? The deck has lots of options.

I've spent my Sunday trying different things on the BO1 Gold ladder before the win every card event, played about three dozens of games. The ladder was all Fires of Invention. Way over 50%. I've barely seen Golos/Field or Food, which were the match-ups I was interested in testing against.

Agent of Treachery is certainly the way to go if your deck can run it, and should be in the main deck if you're a field deck yourself.

How about Revenge of Ravens as sideboard strategy vs Golos and aggro?

@Yondar - that doesn't work, they play a big Krasis and kill you that way. If they have Teferi, that can also bounce the enchantment on the turn they alpha.

Just played a Golos mirror. Opponent had:

- Command the Dreadhorde
- Agent of Treachery
- Yarok the Desecrated
- Risen Reef
- Guild Summit

Talk about the greed Golos decks are taking to go over the top of each other. I'd call this Standard pretty silly.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and next opponent had Assassin's Trophy & Casualties of War, plus Yarok and Oko (presumably to steal the opponent's Yarok if they have one).
EDIT #2: Golos mirrors have got to be some of the silliest in recent memory. Half our cards don't matter and it's entirely down to who draws more anti-Golos cards. A single Agent of Treachery can easily be worth 4+ cards. Sheesh. Do we have the decklists from the Mythic Championship available yet? I want to see to what lengths competitors are teching against the mirror.

Boy is this meta unfun, not least because the mathcmaking algorithm seems to love to queue me against my bad matchups. Viz play Golos and queue into Simic Flash, switch to Monored (which should be good against Simic Flash) and run into Simic food, switch back to Golos and queue into Monored, switch back to Monored and queue into Golgari adventures, etc.

I was tempted to throw together a control deck filled with sweepers and such since although these decks are supposed to have been pushed out of the meta by Golos, I never queued into them ... but then I figured that once I do so, I'll queue into Golos.

Kind of thinking of playing Gwent again, I've been following the (smaller but still existent) Gwent scene a bit, it might be worth it if MTGA continues to be so miserable ...

Field of the dead banned. Curious how this will reshape the meta. Also I’m listening to the awesome Oko song at the end of this video on repeat.

Took long enough. No ban on Oko though is bleagh. I'll keep playing a bit to see if the meta improves, otherwise I'm probably quitting. I was considering this yesterday already, I realized I'm playing MTGA just to do daily quests. Once I reach my threshold of 4 wins/day, I simply exit the game. It was getting more of a grind than fun - a bad sign.

Last time this happened, I quit Hearthstone. I reasoned then that I had plenty of dust and could re-learn the game when I wanted to. Right now I also have enough gold & gems & wildcards to rebuild a collection should I wish to, and although I probably won't completely quit Magic (chances are I'll keep watching gameplay videos).

I really can’t believe they thought Oko was fine to print. A 3 mana walker you can goose out T2, with 2 plus abilities that tick up loyalty super fast while he generates food for life gain/other card abilities/swapping for opps stuff on -5, and turns threats into vanilla 3/3s or his own food into 3/3s didn’t raise any red flags during development??

Post-ban meta goes from 40% Golos variants to 40% Simic food?

I hope that Oko won't dominate the meta - I certainly like my Nissa into Krasis decks and having him as an addition is obviously not bad to bridge into the lategame. However I also don't want to play endless mirrors.

Maybe they print an Enchantment with the next release, saying: "All of your food are belong to us." ;)

I am 100% certain that Oko will dominate the meta.
And I am 200% certain he will dominate brawl.

Anybody has a field of the dead importable list? I want to quickly build it and join bo1 and bo3 standard with it, then run the event in a week, I should have all the cards iirc.

Indeed. I just threw him in the historic deck I started playing with. Sucks you can pretty much just queue into unranked Bo1 matches.
